Seeding bins at a convention - how do you do it?
spreads replied to FineCollector's topic in Comics General
Ya, that's just stupid. A big part of this is selling, like everything else in life......I was at the grocery store and convinced a total stranger who was with his girlfriend to buy a dessert....I think saw him again at the cash register and told him he needed to nuke it for 30 seconds then toss a scoop of ice cream on it. I remember my girlfriend was shocked that I did that and more shocked the guy listened to me, I said to her, 'what's he gonna do, punch me in the face'? Honestly, if you don't enjoy talking to people maybe you should stick to the online sales. -

I'll take this a step further, developing these relationships can have further benefits. I have a friend that referred me to a source where I was able to get a hookup on the cheapest bags/boards around. I've got a small online chat group where we're tossing ideas around and generally just talking out loud. I serves as a good heads-up (e.g. saw a collection, this is what was there, I passed, I recommend you don't waste your time, or maybe it would be better suited for you, etc. etc). -

Seriously, F that guy. I think I've only had one instance of a dealer's brother try that move on me, but I ended up selling him the books at a price I was happy with. If you don't want to direct someone to a different booth, then at least have the decency to pay the sticker price or offer the book at cost to your customer. -

Exactly, This particular dealer the OP is referring to just pulled off a particular move just three days ago! I have no issues with the guy, he's bought books out of my bins but I can totally see the OP's point. There are other dealers that just have bad relationships with others and see no reason to do business with them. -

I feel that way too, I have a $2 box that I always move quantity of regardless of show. I wouldn't want someone plundering it and almost never do I give bulk deals on it... -
CGC restoration removal on CGC graded book
spreads replied to spreads's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Ya, that's what I figured, thanks guys.... -
Hi guys, I have a CGC purple and yellow label book from my collection and was wondering if I should submit for restoration removal? I'm not that familiar with the notes on graded restored books, I went to the CGC grading scale and it looked like this book might not be a candidate for restoration removal services. Here's the grade: 3.0 (Apparent/Moderate). Signed by Stan Lee, restoration includes: color touch, pieces added, seals, reinforced (5th wrap married). The book has a crack in the slab, so I was planning on reholdering it anyway with my next batch of CGC books, but was wondering if it would make sense to see if the restoration could be removed or is too much that it would just damage the book. Thanks!

I can't wait to plunder your dollar books and have them re-priced in my boxes before the show starts! -

That witchcraft book is amazing! -
This is amazing. Is this room in your basement or upstairs? Climate controlled for those AB winters?

That's what the bed is for.

Are CGC books supposed to lie flat? From every source that I've heard it's better to keep them upright? I really like your shelves, would it be possible to zoom out and take more photos? How are they attached to the wall and is this something you made or bought? Great room!

I also plan on bringing it to the shows, they are perfect for sets/trades/hardcovers and mini books, etc. -

Hindsight is 20/20, everyone here will have a comic which exploded in price after they sold it. That Batman ashcan I mentioned above, I sold two copies at two different times, each for a fraction of this last sale. -

Not sure if this is the right place, but a crazy sale just happened for a batman/Grendel silver moon. I find it very hard to believe it's as rare as advertised, I've owned two separate copies at different times... -

Ain't that the truth. “The average man doesn’t wish to be told that it is a bull or a bear market. What he desires is to be told specifically which particular stock to buy or sell. He wants to get something for nothing. He does not wish to work. He doesn’t even wish to have to think.” -

Hey I've you got the time and the cardboard cutting makes it work for you then great; I don't have that time, if I were to cut cardboard it would be taking time away from personal or professional commitments. -

We didn't make it to almost 2400 pages without a few cows strewn across the tracks. -

Agree with everything above, cutting cardboard even if you are a retired millionaire is so tedious.... @oldrover, how does the Kraft loader work, is there heavy cardboard on both sides? It seems like it's combining an envelope with heavy cardboard? @Bird - I ordered a 200 pack of 8/12 811 for .33 each CAD. I tape two on each side together, so I'm using four pieces. For cheaper books you could probably get away with just one piece of cardboard on each side. I also ordered a stack of brown envelopes, that worked out to about 33 cents each (CAD). I looked around and even comparing to places like Walmart the envelopes were by far the cheapest. Again, I'm in Canada so prices might be better for you... *EDIT I also found that this method allows me to ship 1-2 comics as 'letter mail' as determined by Canada Post - which is dirt cheap to ship. If I changed the envelope size or added extra weight I might not be able to ship that way, you'll have to figure that part out for yourself. -

I was doing that as well because I had an unlimited free access to cardboard until I realized how much time I was wasting cutting-up cardboard. I went to Uline and got the pre-cut cardboard, now packing raw books takes zero time....and I don't even sell much on ebay, but having that pre-made stack of cardboard readily available with a stack of brown envelopes makes it so much smoother! -

Right, and this is 5 minutes that has been refined and perfected over practice where the average packaging rate would have been much higher....I think for me, I wouldn't list anything under $25/30 for a single item (but that could be because I have lots of higher-priced stuff yet to be listed). -

Just grabbed this locally, I knew I wouldn't be able to find another one for the advertised price so I jumped on it. It's currently in the shed for now until I know what to do with it, but the condition is great - no rust or anything! I'm not sure of the origin, I want to say 70s/80s?
