  1. Looks like it's part of a game with the distinct background colors?
  2. There's two books btw, #1 and #2 - usually found as a set....
  3. Well I believe there's only 50 of these out there, so the likeliehood of him having them is next to impossible - but you never know! These books are a grail for so many people....lots of people argue that it's a top 5 comic over the last 40 years.
  4. Antique show/flea markets for me have been the least productive out of any venue. Aside from that one exception (mentioned in this thread awhile back) for me it's been a complete waste of time.
  5. Maybe you'll find a gobbledygook!
  6. Did you try waking the owners up at midnight to find the good stuff not being put out for sale? Make sure to wear a black mask to keep your head and face warm, with a large sack that you'll use to hold the comics you buy.
  7. What he's referring to is more like a 'content sale'; a sale organized through an executor or a content sale company like 'sell my stuff'. How 'sell my stuff' operates is that you get there in line, they hand out tickets, then you have an hour or so before they open doors based on ticket priority (usually it's a few at a time). I saw one of these where I snagged a ton of comics early (I'm pretty sure the story is embedded way back in this thread somewhere).....now this company is so popular in this area it's almost a feeding-frenzy at the start. I've only gone to a few of these in the very late hours of the sale, I picked up a few nice items late because they offer discounts to really move items near the end. It's essentially a reverse-auction where the first people through the door get first crack....
  8. Seriously. I wonder if this was a rouse to get the comic guys out there for nothing....hmmm that gives me an idea
  9. Right. What I'm saying is you might need to hold stuff back and not put it out for sale right away; do qualitative research on threads like this. I know it's not possible to do it with the sheer volume of stuff you guys have, but on 5% of the stuff it might be worth putting aside in a 'research later' box.
  10. The problem is with obscure stuff, the more stale the price the less relevant it is, especially on 'one-of-a-kind' items. Up until a few years ago I had a big ashcan collection, really rare stuff, Moebius ashcans, Maxx Ashcans, etc. Some of these items 10-20 years ago would only have sales of $10-15 each (and that might have been the only sale of that book); now some of those same books would sell for $100-1000/each. Had those stickers been left on, and you factored that price in your selling price at all you would be leaving a lot of money on the table. It's a bit painful, but you need to individually research those single one-of-a-kind items....
  11. Also, what you paid for a book (book cost) should have little influence on what you're trying to sell it for (market value).
  12. Definitely not. It's probably mispriced, also you want to use your 'branded pricing' for consistency. I made the mistake early-on of having books from previously collections of old stickers that I had in a box (some items weren't for sale, others were just not rebagged/priced-yet); let's say some buyers got a couple deals off me!
  13. I see those French heritage books here often, they're pretty common here and don't have much value but maybe out West it's a bit more of a novelty. Are those prices original prices the buyer paid for some of those items? That Dell book is sharp but $350 at god knows how long ago....eiip
  14. I can only imagine the time commitment...I purchased a 20 box collection and helped a friend go through a 30k comic collection; end-to-end we're talking hundreds of hours. I think it's important for people to realize these type of collections have an 'endless' goal to them. There will be a long stretch of time when all your free time is devoted on this, dealers don't talk about the affect this has on their lifestyles. So for people reading this thread and thinking how much fun/work it might be, you need to have a family environment that's conducive or willing to handle the stress and rigors of acquiring and processing this. We need to go beyond simple cost and sales...
  15. Lou, this is the best looking comic room on these boards!
  16. These are great, I can see people would love these at shows! Price em high or don't sell em, haha.
  17. I would say that's being shrewd. Getting to a place in the early hours is not worth it for me - I place a higher value on my free time. It's the guys that FineCollector referred to earlier, the purest form of sleezy middle-man out there. You know the guys, the ones that beat-up a seller on something that's already underpriced using some hore nonsense like 'this is for me son', to flip it to the next guy in line that's a collector willing to pay what the original seller was asking for in the first place. I had a dealer sneak in on a key book I was after, only to flip it to another guy for a 10% mark-up, why? Much later afterwards I found out this guy (dealer) is a borderline comic-hoarder, with not much else to show for in his life in terms of personal or professional achievements. When I found that out, I didn't feel so bad....
  18. I've offered more than what was asked to lock-down an item; I'm not arguing with you just saying it's a bit sleezy. There's a well-known comic reclycer that uses the 'these are for my son line'....I would never go that far, intentionally lying to low-ball someone on something that's already priced very-attractively.
  19. I agree, it's in poor taste to show-up super early. I've ran garage sales and put stuff out exactly when advertised, so there is seller responsibility but getting there a few hours early or the night before has nothing to do with 'hard work or motivation', it's just a bit sleezy. :P
  20. Great stuff, can you show some pics of these dividers you're using/purchased? Do you guys have any type of buffer in either shorts or longs to protect the end books in a box? I don't like having a more valuable book at the end of these boxes, but I've also added thick cardboard within my short boxes on both ends just to provide additional cushion.
  21. What's the deal with that Marvel Team-Up? You loaded up on those...
