  1. Sounds like you've made the right call, and it's a shame the antiques show was a front for a political fundraiser - I would out someone on Facebook about this. Just to let the public know the facts about that circus. I'm on the shelf for my monthly shows for now, I've lost my vehicle and made no definitive plans to get a new one. We do have a second car that's much smaller, so I will have to make a decision whether I still want to do what I was doing in a scaled-down capacity.
  2. Thanks for the pics, this helps a lot. Are the box rails inserts on the inside all the same or can you cut them anywhere, e.g. to have 2 dividers in 1 box or 4 in another?
  3. Just curious if your place has other non-comic clutter, and if so are you using this time to de-clutter some of that stuff?
  4. Box 73: 15 Turok 1s, 30 Youngblood 1s....
  5. This is amazing!! I've seen LCS that weren't this organized, bravo!
  6. One or two of those shelving units need a meme, 'no more books'. It does look like a disaster but at least with short boxes contained to a few shelving units you can set realistic goals for sorting/organizing that will make the task less cumbersome.
  7. Thanks again for buying those books off me for $160, I thought they were coming with me to the grave.
  8. Agree, 100%. I've been to rural estate auctions in barns infested with biting deerflies.
  9. I think sorting by title, especially when you have big runs of books makes sense. When I have a dedicated box, I usually have a picture (sometimes I take a cover from a beater comic, 'Daredevil', and package tape over it) to serve as a label. I also have the keys in their own shortbox (identified as such), you can do that for a theme-box (golden, horror, magazine, etc.).
  10. I've had people him and haw over a 50 center book and also a book from my $2 box (remember silver bronze mostly marvel/dc) But usually they already have a few books and if they're really torn I just give it to them. Here's a great story: Guy walks down the hall wearing a mister miracle shirt. I say to him, "hey I got a bunch of mister miracles from the first series $2 each!" Yup, great series, I love it! (keeps on walking). Here I was thinking, uber surcharge time, special price of $5 for this guy! Nope. And I know there's guys that want to rummage through the cheapies to maybe get a $10 book, but to do that on a regular basis really is a negative sum gain when you factor in time/travel. It's one thing if you want to pickup other books (or are already there), but to go to shows on a regular basis to spend 2-4 hours of your time to find $30 worth of books that cost you $5 - no thanks..... And any time I see kids (assuming it's not the little peckers playing hockey in the hallway) I tell them to go grab a cheap book for free (parents love that).
  11. Sorry those look disgusting.... No shortage of pastry-filled treats here; I don't buy the stuff anyway since the wife can't eat them. Sweet and Salty is perfect, it's surprising you actually find a good GF snack at Walmart of all places! I don't know why they don't ship to Canada, I know they would sell well. I guess they're really sticking to the 'America's Treat' quite literally.
  12. I have no idea what those are, there is a trail-mix type snack called 'kars sweet and salty' that for whatever reason isn't available in Canada. But they seem to be very common in the states. PS Donate some image barcodes this way.
  13. This is not directed toward you, but don't you feel your health and overall lifestyle is more important than holding-onto this amount of comics? I know of at least a few dealers that have this mentality of not letting-go, either wanting to sell a key comic or refusing to go below a certain dollar level ($3 a comic).
  14. That's what my $2 box is; Silver Gold Key, Charlton; Bronze (70s only) Marvel/DC. They are steady sellers because there aren't many people that offer them at that price (where else can you get them) and there's a lot of titles in that era where the series only had 20-50 books, so if you're able to knock off a big run of the series cheap it's even more attractive to buyers. Really at the end of the day you need to know your market, each place is different. Although it's great to be able to solicit information from people that are/have done this, you need some trial-and-error to determine what works for you.
  15. There's definitely a bit of a 'collector' mindset of selling these type of books too cheap, which would depend on the individual and some of their personal collecting tastes. Definitely the venue depends on where the cheap stuff can be had, I can attend a monthly show very cheaply which allows me to have 50 cent boxes. The bigger the venue (more cost associated with it going up) the higher the floor is for minimum prices/book.
  16. Stores have to be MUCH PICKIER. Many of them don't have the space to waste on product that doesn't move....you need to start factoring in some accounting to determine how well your inventory is moving, and I imagine with a store that has regular subs the inventory is continually-building.
  17. Well I hope it turns out, but I wouldn't have made that trip without a firmer commitment of a sale and/or more details of what the stuff was. I mean five hours....I think you need to put a higher value on your time.
  18. I have some classic illustrated books I can rip the covers off and take photos of?
  19. Well, I think I got 'em all; thanks everyone for your help. I might toss the stack on ebay and see if there's any interest now that I was able to identify some key storylines.
  20. I encountered a similar story; a home-flipper bought a hoarder's house that had about 15k comics (among other things). There was some definite good stuff in there, but a huge chunk of it wasn't bagged/boarded and unsorted (90s modern stuff of low value), plus there weren't any big keys. I came in pretty low, but I wasn't that keen on the lot. Turns out another buyer came in and went in much higher, even though I told this buyer it wasn't worth the effort and probably better to walk away. My point is, despite the seller having gotten this collection for free and not having to do any of the work if there's someone else out there willing to pay a higher amount then it's gonna sell. Hopefully that isn't the case here, ideally if you're the only buyer interested you control all the negotiation.
  21. Wow, good luck!! I've never travelled half that distance for a collection, hopefully you can at least walk away with something to make it worth your time.
  22. I actually just saw the stories on a few pages, didn't think they all would had a titled-story but I see now it helps a lot!
  23. Good stuff, thanks. Well I gotta run out to dinner, maybe tonight I'll post more when I get back.
