http://www.amazon.com/Extinction-Million-Princeton-Science-Library/dp/0691165653/ref=dp_ob_title_bk The author is firmly in the volcanic activity (as opposed to impact) camp for the Permian event. Do you have any other book recommendations on palaeontolgy Steve? Here's one for you. wonderful life Was going to recommend that. Wonderful Life is a fascinating book. Gould raised a lot of interesting questions about whether we really understand the evolutionary process. Surprised to hear it was controversial, but then adherence to dogma sometimes gets in the way of open-minded exploration. Thanks again for this fascinating thread! Although the latest monster pics you posted gave me a start!

This comic was produced in Tegernsee, Germany in Autumn of 1945, presumably to encourage good relations between American GIs and local residents. Here is an interesting article in the New York Times about how Tegernsee was spared from destruction.

Not an actual vintage WWII comic. This is a prop comic produced by D.C. for Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, the great movie about J.G. Ballard's internment in a Japanese prison camp in China during WWII. Also a picture from the movie of Christian Bale as Jim reading the comic.

Seen lots of the GE Adventures series, but haven't seen one earlier than this one from 1945. First in series? Check out the back cover - like some grim German Expressionist painting! -

Great one, Marty! I like the later issues, too, with the Crandall/Willmer Space Patrol and the green-suited villainess. -
