  1. It's great your kid will be growing up with Bugs. He is a great philosopher and role model for young people. Here are a couple early appearances: Bugs Bunny All Pictures Comics - A Tall Comic Book. All B+W comics. Supposedly reprints Bugs first appearance from LT 1. Easy to find cheap, for now! Famous Gang Book of Comics - Not first appearances but pretty tough to find early giveaway with an all star cover
  2. The Black Stallion - Stanley and McCann - part 2
  3. I always liked McCann's distinctive whiskey drinking cigar smoking storytelling. He produced some classic American comic stories. Like this story from Dell's classic Ghost Stories #1, written by John Stanley. Phew! Talk about intense! McCann gives you the physical feeling of these characters and the frightening action. Who else could have set the stage and played it out as well?
  4. Here is a black, red, and white promotional version of a comic book with a price list on the back cover. Also, a four color version of that comic - pretty beat, but it's the only "in the wild" version I've seen of this.
  5. Everyone's favorite comic about milking machines. This copy of Johnny Surge has an original mailing envelope, a promotional one sheet, and a copy of The Teat Cup "for Babson Men everywhere!"
  6. Here is a pitch package for a series of comic books about the United States. Have never seen another comic in this series or a copy of this comic book in the wild, so this may be another promo pack for a promo comic that was never widely distributed.
  7. The Association of American Railroads distributed millions of comic books educating kids about trains. They were packed in different packs for classroom use. Here is a kit from the Southern Railway System.
  8. Standard Oil Company comic about the history of Ohio, with Teachers Guide and mailer.
  9. This handsome "Flight" promo had several versions produced for different sponsors. This version was for Douglas aircraft.
  10. Here's a fun giveaway to promote drinking Carstairs Whiskey, with an original mailing envelope.
  11. Here are some more promo comic sets, with mailers, ads, and other materials. This is a promo pack for a set of three 1/3-size promos. Never saw any of these little comics "in the wild" so they may never have gotten beyond the solicitation stage.
  12. Here is one... I know this might be a reach, but didn't Edgar work for the phone company? Is it signed or noted who the artist is? Could it possibly be Church himself? I know this is a late reply, but this is interesting speculation. I think there are two Church copies of this promo. Don't know how many other duplicates he had. Perhaps he kept multiples of this because he actually did the artwork?
  13. Cybil Shepherd prototype! Doc, these are just gorgeous! I've seen a couple over the years but to see this big group all at once is a huge treat. THANKS!
  14. Unbelievable. I love the mumbo jumbo descriptions of the parts! Such treasures! I imagine your place as like the warehouse in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
  15. That is cool. Never seen it before. Came with a Superman costume. The blue ink is a 1957 version. The original 1954 version was in color - talk about tough! Scans below are not mine... BTW, here is a great forum thread about Superman costumes with some great pics: Monster Kid Memories
  16. Unbelievable find! You are a magnet for great stuff!
  17. What is this, the romo and promo thread? The promance thread? Get those promos over to the promo thread where they belong and I'll post something you've never seen...
  18. This is an illustrated book, with a series of full page cartoons and one page text pieces. Thought it was noteworthy as it is signed by Ralph Stein, and it included a 1994 clipping of his obituary. Stein wrote and illustrated the Popeye daily strip from 1953 to 1959. Happy Memorial Day 2015. Take a moment to remember those that have passed and all they fought for to give us!
  19. Thought this thread could use a bump on this Memorial Day weekend. Here is a book of cartoons about life in the Pacific islands during WWII. Not an actual comic book. Lots of cartoons featuring bare breasted native women, the few examples of which I have blacked out for delicate sensibilities.
