  1. Two lives (and more, likely) ruined for nothing. So sad.
  2. Who pulled your string anyway? Which part of the logic are you having trouble with? RMA said that the thing that makes a SS book valuable is the condition, not the signature. I said that it's insane to say that condition is the sole factor when the entire point of Signature Series is the signature. RMA said that is indeed insane, and that no one ever said that, although that is exactly what he said. What am I missing?
  3. Ok, I think I've finally got the multi-quote thing figured out, for the record. Underline and bold added by me.
  4. RMA, I'm having some difficulty with the quoting, but here is your exact quote from page 10: "The thing that is making an SS book valuable is its condition, not the signature. The signature only amplifies the value that already exists, if any." So is this admission that you're barking mad?
  5. Well said and makes sense. Also, my "likes" have reset, whee!
  6. I would "like" your post, but I've used up all of my likes today, apparently. At any rate, this makes sense, and I 100% understand what you're saying in, inre: SS not being universally, or even generally, profitable. So through those eyes of the seller, sure, it makes sense to say that the signature is not necessarily adding value. But at the end of the day, the buyer either wants a book that is signed, or they don't, and if the only way a SS can be generated at all is if the creator consents to signing the book. No signee, no signature series, period. So whether the seller is making a profit or not, and whether the creator's signature adds enough value to the book to make it worthwhile to sell, none of it really matters if the there isn't a signature on the book. So from that point of view, I still 100% empathize with the creator. Appreciate your well reasoned argument though!
  7. I guess that's the point I'm "misunderstanding". Seeking out and submitting books for the purpose of grading out at 9.8 and reselling is a pretty standard thing. And of course, all of that should and will factor into the realized price. But saying that condition alone is the sole reason why a SS book sells at a premium, when "Signature" is right there in the term, is insane. At the very least you have to admit that it's both the condition and the signature working together, or else there's no reason why a SS 9.8 would sell for more than a blue 9.8.
  8. Gotcha. For what it's worth, I'm not trying to stir the pot. I don't like SS, so I don't buy SS. But if I did, I wouldn't complain about paying more money to creators for signing SS books. I have no problem with it at all, and I see the logic behind it 100%. That's the end of the story for me, and I won't be persuaded that I'm wrong for thinking this way, anymore than anyone is ever going to convince RMA that he's wrong about anything ever. And I say that as someone who generally enjoys his posts and is happy he's posting.
  9. That makes no sense. If the signature isn't what makes it valuable, why not just buy a blue label book? The condition and signature in tandem may drive the price higher, but no signature is no signature.
  10. No biggie. It's around 9.6, and sorry, but I'm not selling any of my AH hoard right now.
  11. Whoa. I've recently been working on putting together a complete WildCATS run, didn't even know that one was out there. Ugh.
  12. When I was a kid I bought Classic X-Men from the grocery store, and didn't know that the "backup" stories weren't part of the original comics. Hey, I was a kid. Kids are dumb. Still, there's some super work in those backups. Well worth the read.
  13. It was announced last week that Rob Cohen is writing/directing a Razor movie.
  14. I would respectfully suggest that the number of "millionaire creators" out there is pretty slim. We could probably count them on two hands. Most of the guys out there at shows, especially the old timers, barely scraped by. I don't do SS personally, but if I did, I'd have no problem chucking in $5 or $10 or whatever, because the thing that is making a SS book valuable is the signature. The creator should definitely get a piece of that pie.
  15. My favorite X-Men cover as well as my favorite Steranko. Just love the color on it. I've got a beater copy signed to me by Steranko. The sig is a little smudged, but I don't mind. I had a sig series too, an 8.5, but I sold it because at the end of the day I don't care anything about SS, and the beater means more to me anyway. Great pick up!
