  1. Some recent pick-ups arrived over the last couple of days. First up...Tonkanator! I'm glad I canceled my Pulse pre-order, as I was able to use Target Circle promo and other sales they were running to bring this boy home for under $75 shipped. His usual price is over $105. I really love this idea. I'm not a big fan of all of the mash-ups in the TF line, but this one was an instant addition to the want list. Devastator in bright Tonka yellow colors? Yes, please. He looks so good in the box, I'm not sure if I'm going to take him out. I love the Constructicons, but Devastator himself has always been a spoon design, he falls apart so easily. So, this may be a boxed display piece for me. If they ever hit clearance, I'd pick up another set to "play" with.
  2. OH wow, some GREAT stuff in there. Kicking myself for missing the Creepshow!
  3. My wife is also, thankfully, very tolerant of "my ways" ha She has learned to live with it. As long as it doesn't leak into "her world", and is largely contained to my lair downstairs, or the garage, she is pretty accommodating! I agree, discovering stuff in a collection like that really is a ton of fun, and I DO enjoy it, but I'm at the point where my back and knees are no longer thrilled to encounter that many boxes at once!
  4. I really like them. I only have a few, for my "best" books. Clear board, mylar, top loader, and voila, homemade slab!
  5. It really is terrible. You'd think that at some point they'd institute some sort of fail-safe. Like, when a book is scanned in and bar-coded, a prompt of some kind might come up that says "Check printing!" on these books which are widely known to exist in multiple editions. They've had SO many years to get this right, and yet...
  6. Agreed. The last time I bought a collection that large, about 40 boxes, I had to keep most of them in the garage, and winter was coming! Several long nights in a cold garage digging through the boxes, getting them sorted so I could just GET RID OF most of the stuff. The half that I kept came into the house, and the other half was bulked out on Facebook. Doing that first major cull was a huge but important step.
  7. Oh, that's great! I found a set on eBay a few months ago, but was too slow on the trigger. Such an odd size, practically designed to be destroyed!
  8. I've always thought these were underrated, particularly the Art Adams covers, which are beautiful.
  9. The UK Aliens mags are kind of a pain. They're almost always in terrible shape because they're printed on super thin paper, and they're such an odd size. Narrow, but taller than a standard magazine box. I used to have a few as a kid, long gone. I suppose at some point I'll try to finish the run, but considering that they're mostly (MOSTLY) reprints, and not easy to source in the US, I'm not in any big hurry.
  10. Haven't found much in the local shops, but I have been winning stuff on eBay...more than I expected. I've now nearly finished re-buying my old Mike Allred collection (and I'll never sell them again! Probably!) as well as the usual mixture of art and smut that warms my heart so. The Art Adams Dejah cover also gives me another chance to practice my exceptional digital art skills, for your pleasure.
  11. Interesting book, looks like a Mass Market book, so once it actually releases, I expect you'll be able to get it quite a bit cheaper than the list price of $85. Seems like the sort of thing Barnes and Noble, Books a Million and the like will have in their gift sections come xmas time.
  12. If you haven't read Walt's Thor run yet, you're really in for a treat. Some of the best Marvel comics ever.
  13. This made me spit up on my monitor, so, well done. I AM going to "Well, actually..." here and say that, using my keen detective skills, I think she may be cosplaying Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas. But, like, a Party City, knock-off, Ronald McDonald-esque version.
  14. Agreed, it is sun fade. Red is the first color to go with sun fade, and you can still see a smidgen of red left on Sunfire's lower leg, meaning the red WAS there at some point, and has since faded.
  15. I think it's likely because there wasn't much actual "food" in there to begin with. Fast food burgers are like 2% meat, 8% sawdust, 90% :redacted:
  16. The Artist Editions that I personally own are just that, beautiful, high quality scans of the original art, complete white-outs, paste-ups, and everything you'd see if you were holding the original piece right in your hands. So, it is "simply" the scans, but they're super high quality and presented beautifully, and come about as close as you can get to looking at the original artwork. They're really nicely made, enormous books.
  17. thanks bud! As you know, you can never have too many!
  18. Still beating the nostalgia drum, I ended up winning more than expected at CLink. Lots of drek that hits the teenage feelings. Definitely been in an Art Adams mood lately, and I think the New Mutants Special may be my favorite cover of his, period. I have several raws, but it's nice to have a slab. Also ended up winning the X-Men Annual 14, an old label. I don't care about Gambit at all, but I have always liked this cover, so I'm glad prices have come down enough for me to pay what I wanted for the book. I posted several cheap ALiens slabs in the Copper Age Dark Horse thread. Ended up spending a lot on a bunch of junk, but it's junk I like!
  19. I fooled around and won a bunch of cheap Aliens slabs at CLink this round. I just couldn't pass them up considering that several went for less than the cost of slabbing. That Aliens 4 2nd print is a 9.6, but it was also $17. The Aliens 5 third was a lowly 9.0, but again, 12 damn dollars! I just couldn't leave them stranded! I have raws in nicer shape, but oh well, come on home to daddy, little guys. I'll list you in the registry, then put you in a nice, cozy dark box, never to be looked at again. I also ended up with two copies of Genocide 1, which I'm just going to go ahead and straight up blame on inebriation. Bid sober, my friends.
  20. I actually have two old bottles of soda myself, one a sealed bottle of Big Red commemorating the Louisville Cardinals 1980 men's hoops championship, and the other a mini bottle of coke from their 1986 championship. They are still surprising brightly colored and fully liquid, I suppose because they are more or less airtight. I would have a hard time putting a price on my willingness to ingest them 40 years after the fact. It's...gonna be a high number. I also have a sealed bottle of Makers from the 2013 championship, signed by the now-disgraced and fired head coach and AD. That one is probably worth more now if I open it, drink the bourbon, and throw the bottle away!
  21. I don't know if the book will actually be helpful or illuminate any hidden knowledge, but I will probably spring for a hardcover. I just enjoy hc reference guides, like the Overstreet Guides, the Gerber Photo journals, etc. As with those volumes, whether the information or data is actually helpful or not, I just enjoy nice hardcover presentations dealing with comics, their history, etc. Looking forward to seeing some pics of the hardcover.
  22. Also, whenever I see this thread title, I read it as "Are you hungry for more Spidey milk?" and it makes me vaguely ill.
  23. I used to collect some cereal boxes.Personally, i didn't want to keep the food, so I threw it out (or ate it at the time) and kept the boxes intact for display. Vintage cereal boxes can sell for crazy money, like hundreds of dollars, for folded up old cardboard. It's the same as any other thing that someone might be nostalgic about. If someone cared about something as a kid, you can bet that someone else is collecting it as an adult.
  24. Yes, there are definitely people who collect cereal boxes, and other food items and packaging. For instance, I've been a longtime fan and follower of Matt over at dinosaurdracula.com He used to have a site called x-entertainment, and then that morphed into DD. He also has the Youtube, Twitter, etc stuff. Anyway, he specializes in pop culture detritus, particularly snacks and stuff like that from the 80's and 90's. His site is well worth checking out, especially in the stretch between Halloween and Christmas. Some folks will throw out the food and display boxes, some will puncture the bottom of cans to empty them and keep the container. Matt keeps the whole thing. Just a couple of days ago he posted his pic of all of the Halloween Whoppers he still has!
  25. If this was Wheatcake Flavored, maybe. Otherwise, pass.
