  1. Two of them...I'll be back in a bit...although it'll be embarrasing. I suppose these aren't that bad...but now I want a pedigree copy Here's the Rockford copy of Fight #23. Your copy has much better colors.
  2. Hey, turns out I've got one of these. Forgot all about it until now. Won't fit on my scanner, but here are some pics:
  3. Umm, I really hope you are correct about the protection afforded by the new slabs. We are all hoping CGC has corrected the problems. I would hate to see any damage occur to such high grade beauties.
  4. I don't have a lot of OA, but, since Jetta has appeared early and often in this thread, I thought I might share a few pages from Jetta #6:
  5. Michael, your eye for bright colors on the Fiction House books really shows through with these Planets. They DO look so much better with colors that pop.
  6. If the guy with the gun shoots, there will be TWO space girls on this cover! I think he anticipated it. He picked out his favorite red blouse for the occasion. And he's wearing it off the shoulders, too. My, what a saucy little minx.
  7. If the guy with the gun shoots, there will be TWO space girls on this cover!
  8. Both are beautiful, Michael, but this one is

  10. Nice book, Sharon. While the facial expression and theme certainly imply Germany and Hitler, the book was published months prior to the United States's formal entry into WWII. The publisher may have been simultaneously trying to fuel patriotic fervor and not offend the anti-war groups that still felt this was a European matter. So they may have instructed the artist to "make it look like Hitler, but leave us a little wiggle room." When I see this book, I think of Jimmy Buffett..."I wish I had a pencil thin mustache, the Boston Blackie kind..."
  11. Although not noted as such, this seems to me to be a Hitler cover. I don't think the Nazi in the corner would have been given a toothbrush mustache if he wasn't intended to be Hitler. Thanks everyone!!! And great books all around!!! It is noted whenever it sold as a Hitler cover at least that I have seen in my short period learning and collecting these gems. The Blue Beetle story on the inside however doesn't at all match the cover as he is busting up regular ol' gangsters. What I love most about this cover is how darn dynamic it is. The little details just blow my mind. If you look at it....and I mean really look at it...you will notice it is a US Flag cover as well down there on the naval ship I like the perspective of it all. Up in a plane looking down heck even the gauges are drawn on there as the pilot is turned around to thwart our heroes rescue. Great stuff!! I agree with ALL that the earlier and then later issues are the real shining stars of this publisher. Here's West's list from a few years ago (I think he may have added some later) and you are right that MM 27 is there (now if we can get Overstreet and CGC on board!): Here is a Hitler cover list I made that covers books from 1940's-1950's. Let me know if I missed any. I have 3 of those...a LOOOOOOONG way to go haha!! Zip #26 is no longer considered a Hitler cover. I believe it was listed as such in early Oversteets, but the German soldier is clearly not Hitler. I also don't think National #12 should be on the list. No German insignia of any kind and a pencil thin mustache rather than the bottle brush mustache put this in the generic dictator category for me. Some good arguments have been made that Blue Beetle #34 doesn't belong on the list either, but it remains there for now.
  12. I'm thinking, but in the mean time, can I just say how glad we are to see you back!
  13. Yeah, it was definitely disappointing. Unfortunately, this isn't my first experience with poor grading on raw comics from the major auction houses. One gave me a small credit on my account when a book was found to have undisclosed restoration (and believe me, it was not hard to spot...it stuck out like a sore thumb. If you couldn't see it, it was because you graded the comic without ever taking it out of the mylar). Wasn't an expensive book to begin with, so I was somewhat satisfied with their response. In the past, Heritage has generally offered me full refunds and sent a prepaid mailing label for the book to be returned. I've got a message in to them and I'm pretty sure that's what will happen again this time. Just wish it would stop happening!
  14. I thought it was a pretty nice looking book from the Heritage scans. But when the book arrived and I got a closer look, here's what I found. When you look at the book at an angle, you can tell there is something off. That something is a tear that goes about 75 % of the way down the length of the front cover. And there is some paper stuck to the inside of the front cover. Also, while they noted that the cover was detached, I think it should have been noted that half of the interior wraps were also detached from the staple.
  15. Here's a recent auction win from Heritage that just arrived. The first picture is taken from their website. Their description of the comic: Captain Aero Comics #13 (Holyoke Publications, 1944) Condition: GD+. The only other copy we've offered over the years of this Gerber "7" issue was the Davis Crippen ("D" Copy) Pedigree copy in 2006. Charles Quinlan Japanese War cover. The cover is detached.
  16. Now here's one where the Shadow is late to the party. Still fighting the Japanese in 1947.
  17. Here's another from that same time. Pretty sure these guys weren't just out ice fishing. Unless the Grim Reaper just really dislikes guys that are hunting and fishing without a license
