  1. Thanks for the grades. You all were right on the money!
  2. The grade that came back seems pretty harsh. Looked at other books and the notes look a lot like those in the 4.0 range. It was probably the stains that shot it down. Couldn't figure out the best way to post this. The PGM post was back in July. Those who looked it over gave it a 4.0 to 4.5. I have a bunch of books in for grading and would appreciate guidance on how best to post the results here when they come back from CGC. Thanks! I'd love to know what you think about this book. ~1/8" spine split, area of color fade (near guard's head)
  3. Thanks again. I think I'll have to rethink my grades on several books. I've been starting "low" and trying to work upward. RE: with a 1" spine split, I have been starting at 4.0 and trying to see if there are reasons to elevate from there. I don't have the book, just what I've been able to copy from the Heritage Auctions site. I really appreciate the grades you've given on several of my books. I've sent in a batch for C&P and then on to CGC for grading. Probably won't have them to share until March or so.
  4. So my interpretation is that the book would need to be ~8.5 to 9.0 without the detached staple. The detachment alone drops it to the 7.0/7.5 range and then the other accumulated wear drops it further to 5.0/5.5. Similarly, a fully detached cover drops an otherwise perfect book to the 4.0 range, then other defects lower it from there. I wasn't getting this understanding from just reading through the grading guideline. I'm learning, but slowly. Thanks for the help! BTW - I think this book has pretty cool cover art.
  5. I would greatly appreciate any comments on this book. I see some very fine wear marks near the staples and along the right edge of the front cover. The cover is detached at the upper staple. I'm trying to learn how to balance things and get a reasonable grade estimate on books like this one. Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks, I wasn't sure about that. I thought that a detached cover might automatically put it in the 2.0-2.5 range. With this one, I thought the condition of the cover was decent. It will help me evaluate a bunch of my old DC comics.
  7. Another book I'm trying to figure out. Thanks for your help. Corners are rounded, some kind of color loss bottom left of FC near the guy's head, some kind of small spot under SM's left arm above the broken chain (cleanable?)
  8. I'm trying to get better at grading, so I'd like to see how your grades match with what I think on this book. Thanks for your help. Color breaks at staples, blunted corners, cover is completely detached.
  9. I'd appreciate your comments on this book. some spine ticks, dent near lower right corner of FC, the 1/4" line that shows on the scan appears to be a dent - it shows on the interior pages. Thanks
  10. Please let me know what you think. creases with color break on lower right FC, spine ticks.
  11. Thanks for the grades. The chipping on this one is particularly bad. Chipping seems to be common with these old Marvel books.
  12. Please take a look. Wear at spine. Chipping on edge of FC.
  13. I know it's pretty rough. Water stains on FC. Long creases. 1" spine split leading to a tear on the BC. Trying to figure out if there is much value here. Some fairly low grades have sold well. Thanks in advance.
  14. Thank you all, especially for the spirited discussion! I knew the staining and creases were going to kill the grade. I thought you all might even go lower. Thanks again.
