I'm just very amazed and . With all the recent additionals Showcase 22 added to the CGC census yesterday, why aren't there any 5.5 and under for sale in the marketplace...at least those are the more affordable copy.

I think people are waiting right before the movie to sell them so they can maximize profits.

That's my situation. Guilty as charged, unless I have a change of heart on my raw 4.0.

I would have been sick to my stomach to see that book changing hands if I had once owned it in a 9.8 pedigree. What were you thinking? Best cover of the run IMHO.

Just got a Batman #232 CGC 8.5 from Boozad. Great looking book, well packaged and quick shipping too. A+ seller and communication!

That is an awesome copy. I have never seen one with such a perfect straight spine cut, and those corners look flawless. Looks every bit a 9.8 or better. If you decide to sell, you should do VERY well.

Going through what books to put up and found this. Never heard of or seen it before. Can't find it in OS either....Help??

Sweet Neal Adams horror grail listed on ComicLink. Wish I had the 10K to drop. Actually the price seems a little crazy to me, even with the pedigree involved. Ok, just checked GPA. The exact same PC Copy sold in 2004 for $546, and an Oakland 9.4 sold in May this year just shy of 2K. This seller is being a bit optimistic.

Sunday night (08/30/09) at 7 PM CST (Central), In the modern sales thread, I'll be listing a complete high grade run of the very popular and excellent modern Image comic: Walking Dead #1- #62. These books average 9.2 (NM-) in condition, with 31 issues in 9.4 or better. The books will be sold as a full run lot, not individually. There are only 11 copies that is 7.5 or better. Rick's 7.5 is probably the best 7.5 out there. Rick's copy is in the top 10% tier, so I think $10000 is a reasonable and fair price. Since guide price is currently $10000 for a 9.2, I predict next year's guide will show a a minimum 20% jump.

 

Don't be so sure. OSPG doesn't seem to bow to artificial movie hype demand when they consider raising a key books price. Marvel Spotlight #5 sells through the roof in high grade since that GR film was announced, but the guide still does not really reflect this because the book in by no means scarce and hasn't stood the test of time. OSPG may give GL #1 and SC #22 a slight bump, but they will wait until a clear trend over years is established before making a 20% or more increase, the way they did for GL #76.

 

I agree with showcase22gr1959. But the 20% bump will come from record prices being fetched on the book, NOT the movie hype. As long as these #22 books continue to surface, I think record prices will be paid. Not because of the movie hype, but because many avid collectors have been looking for decades for premium grade #22s. They could care less about the movie. Just my opionion.

 

Guys, if market value or movie hype had anything to do with OSPG prices would Action #1 still be a $45,000 book in 2.0 (current market value ~$100K)? Look at GL #76 pricing - even though OSPG was well off the mark for the past 5 years you did not finally see a significant increase until this year (and even now it is still off by quite a bit). It appears that they wait to see big jumps for a couple of years before moving things up in guide by more than the standard 8-10%.

 

It is also a bit premature to start putting in price bumps since we don't know where this book will settle out yet. I would expect the big jump to come in the 20011 OSPG since the new price level will have stabilized a bit by then.

 

In any case, buying those 5.0 copies from Rick (and the other one was kryptospidey, I believe) at $1200 was a steal a month ago.

Tec27 found 14 copies for sale? Must have been during Thursday night's preview. I walked the floor all day Friday and Saturday and saw 2 copies. Didn't see Harley's either, must have already been gone. I posted a smaller scan previously in this thread, but here's a better one. Again this was screened by Matt Nelson as a 3.5/4.0 and that is how I see it too. I Wouldn't mind keeping it, but let's see how bad demand is for a decent low grade copy in the 6 months leading up to the film's release.

Hey Kimik. I didn't know you were going to be at Chicago. I could have grabbed that Tomahawk from you! I had restoration expert Matt Nelson of Classics Inc. do a pro-screen on the Showcase #22 I picked up last week on eBay. The seller really came through by getting me the book from New York before the show. Matt confirmed no restoration, and gave it the exact same grade I did when l first looked at it after receiving via USPS - 3.5/4.0. A pressing would not help this book, too many color breaking light creases. Nice front cover with no markings, back cover has a price in pen and some removed tape residue. I only saw 2 copies of this book at the show, one was comparable to mine, and another not as nice. Even Metropolis was sold out. Vince at Metro asked me if I wanted to sell and I told him I didn't think the book had come close to peaking. He agreed and told me to wait 6 or 9 months to maximize profit if I do decide to sell, and of course to consider him as a consignor. So for now, I'm still a card carrying club member.

I stumbled onto that auction before it was sold, but the seller listed a spine split which turned me off. That hand written arrival date smack dab in the middle of the cover was the clincher for me to move on. Still a good buy for whoever got it.

Up to the minute stats: 8,276 comics in my personal collection - 232 of which are slabs (212 CGC and 22 PGX). Probably 200 or so more raw that I haven't enetered into the computer inventory yet. .

This was an eBay purchase. The guy sent me detailed oversized scans a few days ago and it looks like a 3.5 to me. He also said he will issue a refund if any restoration is found. I'll have it with me at Wizard World Chicago gauging dealer interest and taking offers for a possible quick flip if someone else wants it bad enough. E-mail or PM if you will be there and would like to see it in person.

I'd also be happy staying in the club and keeping it in my collection. We'll see what happens

Thanks for the perspective from someone who is actively selling multiples of this book as we speak. GPA has 4.0 - 5.0 copies going from between $550 - $1000 since '07, so in reality, the low end has already practically doubled and the high end about half as much ($1500 in your OW 5.0 case). Looks like smart money buys the higher end 5.0 - 6.0 of this book now while it is still affordable and before it inevitably price corrects upwards. It'll cost you more to join this club on the low end than it normally would as demand for an entry level attractive 4.0 copy outmatches supply due to movie hype. Of course, I still contend that the 4.0s will come back to their pre-movie-hype prices after the film is a memory. Time will tell us that I suppose.

Guys, find me a 4.0 - 5.0 around GPA and I'm joining this club. I still don't think we'll find that book though until after the movie is a memory. As cool a character as GL is, I also don't believe those Marvel stats you listed will necessarily apply to him and this book. This could also be a case like JimJum mentioned that overpaying now will still pay off in the long run, since the book is undervalued in OSPG and can only go up. Very interesting to speculate on this book.
