Thanks Ed! So I'm guessing the Gaines copies are the later version? I wonder how accurate CGC is on this when stabbing
I've wondered the same thing.
CRACK OUT PARTY!
Actually, I have an old label copy that needs cracking out anyway...that'll give us a sample size of 1....
...is there a blacked out #15 in the indicia? I'll report back....
You and your crack habit
I just checked GPA, and they don't split out results for 15(1) and 1. Hard to get a read on the price difference - does anyone have a sense of the premium a 15(1) might carry?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered elsewhere, but what's the difference between Crime Suspenstories 15(1) and 1?
-
the desire for this book has never wavered, and the need for it is perhaps greater now than before.
The fate of the free world depends on it!
Help me Matt Nelson, you're my only hope!!

Has anyone discussed taking over the project? I would be willing to invest time and money in order to make the book a reality. Certainly most of the research has been done up to this point. I would think this would be more than possible considering how much interest everyone has in the subject matter (among collectors that is).
+1
Seems like the perfect project for a crowd-funding venture where the money raised could be used to bring in a third party to finish the job.

A truly impressive lot there

One of my favorite Wood covers (I don't believe that I have posted this yet, if yes my apologies).
Wow! That's an absolutely stunning copy Mike! You've really been on a roll this Summer
Thank you Caleb! (thumbs u
Actually I've had this one for a while and stumbled onto it while going through a few of my boxes today...
...but you're right, I've added a few nice books to my collection recently.
Yes you have!

Are there EC collectors that would be interested in building a "Complete EC New Trend" registry set if one was created? If so, what would you all suggest as the set inventory? Specially I'm interested in what the cutoffs would be - are Crime Patrol 15 and 16 included for example? I'd love to get some feedback before reaching out to Gemma.

Did anyone here win either of the GFCs in the Hakes auction today? I was the underbidder on the HOF 15 (1) 9.0

Been wanting this issue in decent condition for a dozen years or so, and finally sprung for it (amazing the number of moths that flew out of my wallet... )
great cover!! I'm new to the EC world! I've always loved tales from the crypt and the horror genre and thanks to edowens71 I've started my ec collection!
so ill put this out there as a topic what is your favorite EC story? what book is it in.
dan
Off the top of my head, Crime Suspenstories 17 is one of my favorite issues story-wise. "Touch and Go!" is a Bradbury adaptation, and it's one of Craig's best - he does a great job giving a window into the main character's descent into madness. You've also got "Fired!", the great Williamson and Frazetta team-up. Do not make that woman angry!
Finally, "One for the Money..." and "...Two for the Show!" are great because they tie into each other, which is a rarity for EC. You get used to (and expect) the twist at the end of each story, but I remember actually being surprised by the end of "Two" the first time I read it.
Plus it has a really great cover!
I've seen this on eBay and want it but my paypal is tapped
Not that copy - it's mine and it's a keeper

I agree that there are just some books you have to have in HG. I actually just picked up this one, which has been at the top of my upgrade list for a while:
-
Always liked that cover with those robots with the windows in their chests! (thumbs u
Here's a recent pickup from a fellow boardie of one of my favorite covers. I guess I like "The Blob" connection to this cover. It's pure '50's!

I'd like to get some analysis from the EC experts among you; how different do you think the market for ECs would be today if the Gaines file copies didn't exist, or if he only put aside one or two complete sets? Do you think the existence of the Gaines copies helps or hurts the value of non-gaines copies (higher and lower grade)?
I believe that the introduction of the Gaines file copies reignited interest in ECs across the board. Made old time and new collectors take notice. This new interest helped prices increase in all grades, raw and slabbed IMO.
Wasn't that about the same time as the HBO show though? Might have my dates wrong, but if those were around the same time it would be hard to separate the impact of the two.
The original question is a hard one - my first inclination is to say that non Gaines copies in HG would be worth more simply due to the lower supply. However you can look at VOH 12, since with only one Gaines copy it's essentially a test case for the question. The price I paid for my White Mountain copy is higher but still comparable to what I paid for my similarly graded HOF 15 (1) Northford, an issue which has the standard compliment of Gaines copies. So at least in this example, the lack of VOH 12 Gaines copies doesn't seem to be pushing up prices of other HG copies.

Ever notice how similar the covers to 23 and 24 are? The dead guys are dead ringers for each other!

I would oprobably also vote for eccomic and bedrock. Although, now that I've said it, I would expect a barage of mouth watering, beautiful, slabbed Gaines file copies...
Not me. Not even close. I've sold a bunch of mine in the last year. Just kept the favorites.
Stinking flipper!
Really, sell those beautiful Gaines copies? I'd have to need a kidney pretty bad to part with those...
When I bought my house I sold my Bat #1, Supe #1, Cap #1 and others but kept my EC's!
I used the money to help pay for this...
...I figured I would have a chance to rebuy the ECs, but I might never get another chance at the cover art.
I'd say that's a pretty decent reason to sell a few books! Always enjoy seeing that cover (thumbs u

just got this issue in the mail, turned out to be a really nice copy
Land of the lost issue one, and no sleestaks in this issue
Looks great!

If we're talking board members, I would put fantasyland15 up there pretty high. Don's registry sets are consistently 1 or 2 in the rankings, and he's building across crime, horror, and sci-fi.
That being said, Jeff's Tales from the Crypt set is dreamy
-
I would vote for Jim Halperin at Heritage.
That was my first thought as well. I can't even have the best collection in my city
Any others? Does the Dentist have an EC run?
-
Sold a Crime Suspenstories 9 to Mike, and he was super easy to work with. Hope to have transactions with him in the future!
-
Random question for the group: is there a collector that's known as having the "best" EC collection across the board?
-
Great cover. So is #20. One that seems to get no love. Craig was really on a roll at this time! CSS is one of my favorite EC titles because of great covers like this.
+1 if anyone has a high grade CSS 20, I'm in the market for one!
-

Shock SuspenStories is one of my favorite EC titles... a Crime, a War, a Sci-Fi, and a Horror story all in the same book.
The covers were generally excellent, too!
What makes this cover great is not the fact that it's an electrocution cover at all! To me it's the various facial expressions on the cast of characters. From anger, disgust, shock and just look at that grimace on that warden's face! (thumbs u
How about the guy throwing the switch? Seems like he's enjoying his job

You may be getting to this, but I don't think any discussion of EC would be complete without mentioning Bill's file copies. Planning on talking about those and how they fit into your collection?
