I was thinking about EC's, there are a lot of pedigree collection representatives out there.
Personally I have several White Mountains, Gaines, Vancouver, Church, Lost Valley, Gary Arlington, Aurora, Spokane, River City, and Crippen.
No Bethlehem, Palo Alto, or Northford.... yet.
Any other EC peds I'm missing?
-
Very nice, fellas - do all the Bethlehem's have a date and store stamp on the back?
No not all (just the really cool ones!)
-
-
Thanks! So while I'm waiting... How about some love for the Bethlehems?
-
Thanks for catching that Steve! I'm going to investigate sending it (along with the Tales 22 maybe) back to CGC for a pedigree review.
-
Ok how about this one - River City?
-
Loving these covers!!! Keep 'em coming.
I may have over paid for this one, but I really don't care. It gets tucked away for my daughter. I picked it up on the latest Clink auction. I guess you could say it's a solid 9.4. A few Boardies here may know it's provenance after leaving the Gaines archives. If you do, please feel free to PM me.
Actually I thought you got a pretty decent deal!

Here's the only "official" River City I own currently:
-
I think you could be right! Check out this one courtesy of the comic book pedigrees site
River City was my first thought, as well...the cursive "L" and the month-hyphen-day certainly fit that bill. But, then I talked myself out of it, because I've never seen a River City mark in red ink, or with that horizontal underscore underneath the "L". But...early version, perhaps
Ok Ed how about this one (again from comicbookpedigrees.com). Still not quite the same but much closer. This one actually has both the L and the C:
-
I picked up the VOH #13 at around the same time I was picking up other high grade EC's that also had grease pencil markings (1997-1998). The other books had a "5" or "S" on them and would be later recognized as River City copies. Could these books with the "L" be "Early" River City copies?

Seeing sacentaur's Weird Science with the distributor mark made me think about one of my ECs - does this notation look familiar to anyone?
-
New arrival, and what turns out to be an accurate grade from CGC - the front cover has that pedigree "pop", but there is some soiling/scuffing along the spine on the back cover, which brings the technical grade down.
OW-W pages, too.
Very sharp. Congrats!

Another one of my all-time favorite EC's is War Against Crime #10 - 1st Vault:
Nifty house ad, too:
I like it too! I would love it even more if I could find a slightly better copy
-
An up-grade for my Crypt of Terror #18. Thanks to a fellow board member.
-
[Vault 32, on the other hand... did such a happy dance when I landed my copy years ago. Was one of those must-haves, for me.
I'd like the VOH 32 a lot more if the cover (ax to the head) wasn't censored.
I like that one too! The uncensored version is even worse
The only uncensored version would be in the reprints, wouldn't it? Also the poster (one of which I have, along with one for the uncensored Tales From The Crypt 38).
Yes, although the OA is uncensored as well (from Mr. Halperin's collection):

The VOH 30 does have the gruesome factor, plus I love the bit of humor on the back sign ("Stomach Upset?").
However, I'm partial to the VOH 31 (the man's face beaten to a pulp with a mallet as the blood and rain mix together in the street lit by a red lantern) - sublime yet stupendous.
One of my faves!
-
I only have this low-grade copy of Vault of Horror #34:
Ahh yes, but the point is, you have a copy of an EC, and that's all it takes to recognize what sets the brand apart from all others.
Don't worry, you'll be getting more, eh eh.
Hopefully next month
Welcome to the club - it's a long creepy journey from here

Big news on the TFTC front! Thoughts?

Also, I'm not into original art at this point, but I couldn't resist picking up a couple of Severin color guides along the way...these original watercolors are probably as close to EC OA as I'll ever get. One set that I have is for the cover feature story in Tales From the Crypt #20:
Here's my copy of the book...
...and my Silverprint proof set hand colored by Marie Severin for use as the "Impending Doom!" color guide (acquired from the "fantasyland15 collection" ) :
Those silverprints are really fun too. I've got a couple of full stories myself, and I love having a piece of the production history (especially at a fraction of the price of the OA!)

Great looking books! The 40 in particular is nice - for some reason it seems to come up in high grade less frequently, and your copy looks nicer than 9.0
-
Are you doing requests? Can we see the Tales from the Crypt next?
Sure, requests are always considered!
I'll start working on that...I'll need to decide where to officially "start" that set for layout purposes...Crime Patrol 15? Crypt of Terror 17? Tales From the Crypt 20?
Why not International 1?

That Desert Dawn would fit right in with a certain sub set of my collection.....
I won't presume to speak for Ed, but the phrase, "from my cold, dead hands" came to mind

Excluding the classic covers (VOH 30, CSS 17/20/22), this is probably my favorite:
