  1. One book tonight.

The rules: :takeit: via post in the thread will take it and will trump any ongoing negotiations or :takeit: via PM. If you want to take the book via PM, that's fine, but if someone :takeit: in the thread prior to me acknowledging your PM take, then the book will go to the :takeit: in the thread. Clear? Good! No HOSers or folks on the probation list.

Returns are accepted within 7 days, assuming the book is received back in the same condition. Buyer would be responsible for return shipping. Payment via paypal, check, or MO. Shipping within the US is included - if you're international let's discuss via PM. Please PM with any questions.

This is a very good point that I hadn't thought of yet...and needs some discussion! I can't believe we haven't had serious drama (at least that I know of) stemming from this problem yet.

So, even if we have PMs sent to e-mail, the imprecision of the software timing display still seems to be a problem. For example, suppose I'm running a sales thread per my usual "time stamp anywhere wins" rule. I go to sleep at 11pm, and wake up and check my sales thread at 6am. I have an e-mail of a PM "take it" notification with an e-mail time of, say, 1:20am. There's also a "take it" posted in the sales thread, and the only time information on that sales thread post says "5 hours ago" (which seems to be the precision with which this software displays post timing). Which one was first?? The sales thread post could have been at 1:15am...but it also could have been at 1:25am. What do we do???

    :ohnoez:

I didn’t think about this either. Given that it could be unclear when someone ultimately sends a PM,  you can’t rely on it. I guess I’ll be posting :takeit: per PM in the threads going forward!

  3. Hello all, I’ve got a situation to run by the group... I made an offer via PM for a book in Rick’s thread this afternoon, got a counter, then accepted via PM. Rick didn’t see it right away, and another boardie posted the take in the thread. At this point Rick has decided to give it to the thread taker, but he and I both thought it was a good idea to discuss here. I know these calls depend on the rules in each thread, so for reference, Rick’s rule in this case was, “ :takeit: trumps PM.”

From his perspective, that meant even a full take via PM would be trumped by the thread take. I interpreted that as PM negotiations would be trumped by a thread take but that a PM take should be accepted.

Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom, and thanks to Rick for discussing this via PM like a sane person - how refreshing is that for the internet! lol

Respectfully, you couldn't be more incorrect. Take two given EC issues, each a genuine 9.6 or 9.8 -- those from Gaines' closet have more cachet and will fetch a stronger price, all else being equal, vs. the "anonymous" version of the same issue in the same grade. EC collectors love the connection.

As someone that has both high grade Gaines and non-Gaines ECs, I can confirm that the File Copies will bring consistently higher prices than non-ped copies. Double is probably too high though; I’d say the premium runs closer to 50%.

A shameless plug for Bunky Brian... If you EC folks haven't already seen it he is running a sales thread for a bunch of Gary Arlington's ECs. Gary was a pioneer in the comic store business. He opened one of the first comic stores in the country in San Francisco. He actually subscribed to EC and had a full set back in the days when they were real hard to get. Every EC collector should have at least one of Gary's books in their collection.

Agreed! Here's one of mine with the original envelope:

Thanks to everybody that bought in the thread, Gary sounds like an incredible passionate collector to say the least.

I could use some help, in strategies' for selling a ton of original EC artist commissioned art, and paintings. Any experienced OA collectors reading this, give me a PM, to discuss in detail.

    thanks Brian

Posting the comics here seemed to work out pretty well... :baiting:

    That’s 14(2) you got there...

  8. :bump: for a neat high grade non-Gaines copy. For those of you who don’t know, Gary Arlington is credited with opening the first comic book store and was highly influential in the underground comix scene in SF during the late 60s and 70s. He also happened to be a huge EC fan and collector, and many of his books were original owner copies (some were even sold with the original EC envelopes he received them in).

I’m sure our resident experts could give a ton more details about him, but I at least wanted to give an overview (worship)

  9. One book tonight, but it’s a good one. The rules: First :takeit: via PM or post in the thread will take it and will trump any ongoing negotiations. No HOSers or folks on the probation list.

Returns are accepted within 7 days, assuming the book is received back in the same condition. Buyer would be responsible for return shipping. Payment via check, or MO only for this one. Shipping within the US is included - if you're international let's discuss via PM. Please PM with any questions.

  10. I had COT 17 at 11, so definitely considered that one.

This brings up an interesting trend where the value of the “traditionally” desirable ECs (COT 17, HOF 1, CP 15, VOH 12, etc) have increased as the overall PCH market has, but it seems like the “new trend” (see what I did there?) is for really dramatic increases on the books with desirable cover art (CSS 22, VOH 30, CSS 20, SSS 6). There haven’t been a whole lot of high grade copies of those that have sold lately, but I think we’d be surprised at some of the prices they’d bring (like Shock 6!).

  11. I’m too lazy to go back and look, but has anyone done a top 10 ECs list in this thread? Given that it seems like they’ve picked up steam in the market lately, I thought it might be fun to put one together. Other opinions welcome!
