Well, since the "W" is right near the end of the alphabet with the Wings ending quite late on a Friday night, shouldn't you guys all have been either out getting an early start on the long weekend or in bed sleeping by then.
If the two of you had only done your part, I would have been able to pick up the book from the boys at CC/Metro at a much lower price point.
Who says I wasn’t at the bar bidding on my phone? I’m actually surprised I didn’t go higher

You are absolutely 100% right on your point here as this was the one book that I really wanted to win in the auction, but did not.
From my personal point of view, this is the absolute best of the GGA art covers in the Wings run. This book was seemingly stuck at the $1,550 price point prior to the end of the auction until I finally decided to throw something higher in there. Was hoping that this CGC 9.4 highest graded copy would peak out somewhere around $3K since the last 9.4 (slightly nicer looking one) sold for $2,390 on Heritage back in 2011 when there were only 2 copies in this grade. Now, with a much higher total of 6 copies in this 9.4 grade along with 36 others graded copies and many of them in the relatively high end, I was hoping this would keep a lid on the prices. I guess in a way, this $4K was a reasonable price as the Heritage copy sold when the top of guide price was at only $330 and top of guide for this year is at a much higher $1,300 price point.
I probably would have bidded higher than the $2,800 or thereabouts when I dropped out except I kept thinking about the raw what should have been a Fine+ copy except for some vertical crease defect that I had picked up from Metro for only $60 years ago and finally decided that I didn't really need the upgrade.
Big congrats on your win here of what I considered to be a truly iconic cover.
I was a late bidder on this one as well, though I was not the underbidder. Nice pickup @jhm!

The rules: via post in the thread will take it and will trump any ongoing negotiations or take via PM. If you want to take the book via PM, that's fine, but if someone takes in the thread prior to me acknowledging your PM take, then the book will go to the in the thread. Clear? Good! No HOSers or folks on the probation list.
Returns are accepted within 7 days, assuming the book is received back in the same condition. Buyer would be responsible for return shipping. Payment via paypal, check, or MO. Shipping within the US is included - if you're international let's discuss via PM. Please PM with any questions.

For the EC lover in your life, I’m offering up a Tales from the Crypt 20 (1) CGC 9.0. GPA shows an OW copy that sold last year for $4300, so I’m asking $4500 for this white pager:

for a price drop to $650. This seems like a good deal to me - these books are on fire lately.

The Culmination of a Ten Year Odyssey
in Golden Age Comic Books

I got my only CLink win from the last Featured auction this week (International Comics 6), which was the last book I was missing in the International / Crime Patrol / Crypt of Terror / Tales from the Crypt run. I wrote this up when I finished the New Trend run last year, but now that I have the Pre-Tends too, I’m reposting with an updated photo
I bought my first Tales from the Crypt in 2009, almost exactly 10 years ago - a raw VF+ copy of 42 I found on eBay (surprisingly it was accurately graded - came back 8.5). I decided I would put together the entire TFTC set in 8.0 or above, starting with CP 15. After collecting Silver Age Marvels, I was looking for a challenge - books that don’t just come along every week in auctions or dealer sites. I loved scaring myself with the HBO show in the 90s, so it seemed like the right title to go after.
I paced myself, expanded into other EC titles, and found my way on to these boards along the way. I’ve made friends here, and when I’m excited about a recent purchase or want to discuss these great comics, this is where I come. Even though I’m in the process of selling off most of my other ECs and don’t post much here anymore, I still enjoy the Gold forum!
Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement along the way!
