  1. I don't know if there is debate whether Flessel did this cover or not. Gerber says it was Bernard Bailey, but everywhere else says Flessel. Personally, it looks like Creig's handy work to me.
  2. I think it was JiveTurkey that labelled this type of book as "left nut". Just beautiful, thanks for sharing.
  3. Awesome recap, FFB. Thanks for sharing it with us. That day was truly one of those life experiences that will be etched in your memory banks. I'm very happy to see that you were able to share with him some of the great postings about him and his work from these very boards. I'm sure he got a big kick out of it. I hope he realizes his place in comic book history and the adoration his work merits in today's collecting community. Truly a legend. Thanks again.
  4. You are so right!!! Now that is a beautiful book.
  5. But not the Chicago copy, right? Cuz if it is the Chicago copy, I'm gonna have a knipsh-t.... in a positive way. If it was the Chicago,I'd think Mark Haspel would've identified it from the code.Could have missed it though, guess you'll have to crack it out to be sure I would tend to agree with you, Xavier. But I recall a decent amount of Chicago books that were part of the White Rose collection were not originally tagged as pedigreed. Since then, some of these books were resubmitted as the Chicago and were confirmed and designated accordingly. So, who knows? Only the man they call "S" from NYC could provide me with the right info on this particular book.
  6. I appreciate the comments. I'm going to try to take some more pic's in the next few weeks and post them on the boards. You collect Nedors as well, Mr. Schomburg?
  7. But not the Chicago copy, right? Cuz if it is the Chicago copy, I'm gonna have a knipsh-t.... in a positive way.
  8. Thanks. There's a very small bit of paper missing on the bottom back cover. That is the only defect on this book and the reason for the downgrade. Otherwise, it's a no brainer 9.4. I'm never selling it anyway, so there's no point of a resub.
  9. [quote That is my FAVORITE cover of the ENTIRE run!! Holy Moley! Mine too. You have great taste!
  10. Thank you, West, and everyone else for the kind words. I've been surfing these boards for a long long time, gazing at everyone's killer books. I'm just happy to contibute, especially to my favorite thread ...bar none!!! Another classic cover, one of my all time favorites. Dennis
  11. Bought this one some years back at the Chicago show from Chris Foss (first class all the way). It had some work done to it, but I didn't care all that much. The tear seal is in the upper right corner of the back cover:
  12. I'd love to. Just pick a day when we're not getting a half a foot of snow and count me in.
  13. Here's one more. Probably the nicest VF+ you'll ever see which is no surprise to anyone who knows the Chicago books. One of my all time favorite covers .
  14. I'll post a few pics I was able to take over the weekend. Definitely one of my favorite threads, so I'm happy to contribute. A couple of classic covers to start with:
  15. So what is the general consensus as far as what this book is truly worth? Guide is $25,000. Tough to put a number on it as it is such a one of a kind item. I wouldn't even know where to begin.
  16. I remember looking at the heritage scan when it was a 7.5, and thought the grading was pretty tight. I don't think its a 9.0, but its a lot nicer then most 7.5s GA books out there. I agree. Probably was just undergraded initially. It is, no question, a gorgeous looking book. But I have a real hard time paying $28K for the same exact book that sold for less than half of that just four years ago. And the only difference between then and now is a label, right or wrong. Just doesn't register in my head.
  17. Considering that copy of MM #2 is a resub and sold for $13,800 back in 2002 as a CGC 7.5, out of principle I'll take the Adventure.
  18. Don't know about the ad and what point in time it was. But before he consigned it to Heritage two summers ago along with the rest of his comic books, he had it listed on his website for $36K. Sold at Heritage for a hair under $35K. Just curious, what year was that advertisement?
  19. I don't know who has it now, but I remember, years ago, Mark Wilson selling all the Church Sandman covers in his catalog. The prices seemed high at the time, but looking back, I think they(after #40) were all under 2K. JP was asking a bit over $14K for it, which to my jaded eyes doesn't seem all that bad. JP was asking more like $36K for the Church copy of #42. Win, SWEET #46. That's my grail!!!
  20. That doesn't matter in the wonderful world of GA collecting. The fact that it is the Reilly copy and has white pages matters more than anything. If that 9.6 is non-pedigreed with anything less than bone white pages, the SF copy is worth more.
  21. Say the word, my friend. It's been waaaayyyyy too long.
  22. I can tell you first hand that the #59 shows much much better than 8.5. Not atypical for Church copies. The book is gorgeous. Win, whenever we can get together for a cocktail in the near future, I'll show it to you.
  23. Oh it's the Chicago copy. At least that's what it says on its purple CGC label. Next to Edgar Church's, Chicago Timelys are my most coveted pedigree. Just a side here, I believe the Chicago collection contained Batman 1-27, but I have never seen any Chicago Bats in the marketplace. Am I incorrect about the Batmans? Anyone know who owns these beauties?
