  1. I once owned that #2 CGC 10.0 Submitted by myself and eventually sold for $200+ about 5+ years ago on eBay. Not the sale I was hoping for, but if I recall correctly, the buyer was a HG collector that gobbled up many 9.9 and 10.0 books back then spending some mad money along the way. So I'm not sure that this book will see the light of day any time soon but I could be wrong.
  2. Just finished #1-5, very entertaining. Love the dry wit of Boo, he is quickly becoming a crowd favorite I'm guessing!
  3. I agree a bit, Gillen has a vast story to tell with litterly many fronts of the war to cover that he gives us small chunks of one character in the Pacific war, then back to the East front for a few issues and then back to what is going on in Britian. Its keeping me captivated for sure and I know Gillen will tie it all together but I wonder if Avatar will best be served having some Uber miniseries running in parallel to support the main title. I'm sure Gillen could keep 3 different artists busy with what he has planned. But good to hear that interest in #0 might be coming back... this is still the best read every month for my money. Issue 17 will be out soon so I urge people to catch up, it has an intense and surprise filled ride thus far. (thumbs u
  4. Link? ....I'm not finding it. Found it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Black-Hole-4-Very-Rare-High-Grade-Whitman-Pre-Pack-Only-1980-CGC-9-6-NM-/310880961744?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item4861f304d0
  5. It actually has never bottomed out at that range. The only sales under $300 occurred during the infancy of CGC, and long before the demand for Harbinger shot the price up to $2500. The past year or so the book has oscillated around $300-350, ending closer to $350. From what I understand, the books he lists are based on the # of bids, not the price. FWIW, the suckers were the ones that bought Harbinger #1 at the highs. There were plenty of HG copies to go around and it was only a matter of time for more to surface. Just like any BA/CA/Modern #1 or key, there will be more highest graded copies on the census over time and that will bring prices back to reality. Actually that particular post had to do with the number of watchers, not the price. I think you are a little strong with your characterization of the supply of high grade Harbinger 1s. Given a book that sold from $2500 down to $350, there are still only about 100 9.8s on the census which has grown very very slowly for a 90's "big money" book. Compare to Batman Adventures 12. Certainly there was little support for a 2500 price given even a slowly growing census count, but it still is a legitimately tough book to grade out at 9.8. It is tougher than other books from that period, but at an estimated 48,000 print run there are plenty of potential 9.8s out there in long boxes and store stock that have not come out to play yet. The question is how many people are willing to pay the $250-$350 for it if the current series fails and there are no movie/tv prospects to inflate prices? When I look at the number of so-so Image books being optioned, I keep wondering if Valiant will ever get something on the big or small screen. Harbinger 1 doesn't have a TON of downside in CGC 9.8 in that price range. It's a relatively tough 9.8, has a very low print run for its era, is a classic book that a lot of people have some nostalgia for, and the characters are back in print for now. Even if the current series died, it's already renewed some interest in the book. Certainly. You don't need to be a Valiant collector to want a H1 9.8 in your collection. It is a legit modern era key book. I would put it in the top 10, and I can't see it out of the top 20 in any serious list. I think the Valiant book that should be on people's top 10 modern lists is VH1 X-O Manowar 1. The title outsold Harbinger back in the day (X-O Manowar was published for over a year after the original Harbinger title folded), it was one of the few titles revived by Acclaim (Harbinger did not make the cut), and is the top selling Valiant title for VEI. Harbinger is a wannabe X-Men and will always be compared to that title. X-O Manowar is a unique character and is Valiant's flagship character and title. IMHO, of course. It's pathetic that VH1 X-O Manowar 1 in 9.8 CGC sells for $75 - $100. There are VEI X-O Manowar variants that sell for more and that's just wrong. As for moderns that are heating up, did anyone else notice the inexpensive (under $15) copies of House of Mystery Halloween Annual 1s disappeared on E-Bay this weekend after the iZombie news? That book has less than 12,000 copies. Not a huge print run. If Harbinger is a Wannabe X-Men, couldn't you say X-O Is a wannabe Iron Man? I'd say the XO armor is closer to the Darkhawk Armor than the Iron Man armor.
  6. Just read #1 and very pleasantly surprised. Can't wait to get my hands on #2!
  7. Why are you surprised at that Harbinger price? It's very status-quo... Yep Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s have been selling steady in the $350-$425 range for at least the last year.
  8. I would pay 50 cents a piece for NM Nintendo Valiants all day long. +1 (thumbs u Send those copies to me!
  9. Such an unfunny show. Wait........... What? Unfunny, really? What would you find funny then? They've got a good premise, but the humour just isn't well executed and/or that funny. And I get their comic and sciene references. It's not like it's over my head or anything. Just low-brow, mindless humour. A supposed "joke" every like three seconds. No time for the it to sink in beofre the next one. Forced jokes. Just lame. Similar to "2 and a half men" "According to Jim", etc. It's OKAY to just watch as a show, but not as a comedy. I will admit that I have laughed at it. But maybe like twice an episode. It just floored me when I found out, maybe 2-3 years ago, just HOW many people thought the show was so amazing. Funny TV (that's MEANT to be funny) would be: The Office Family Guy Arrested Development Old Simpsons Frasier (now THAT's intellectual comedy done properly) Da Ali G Show Robot Chicken Seinfeld Friends Conan O'Brien Saturday Night Live Modern Family The Tom Green Show That 70's Show To each his own but I would say you are in the minority.
  10. Ya I hear ya, I do moderns to support other habits .... drugs? TV has taught me that meth is very lucrative.
  11. FYI everybody http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6564697#Post6564697
  12. I've noticed this as well. I apologize for my ignorance, but is there any reason for it? Did Avengers Arena really cause that jump? All I know is that I bought one out of nostalgia. How many others are doing the same is anyone's guess. But the whole kings of kings story line might of given him just a bit more spotlight for those unaware of the character. And after the kings of kings he's more of a universe type entity/character and since the Guardians of the Galaxy movie announcement, Marvel space characters have become hot. All theories of course. I've been watching/selling/buying this book for some time now. The current upswing, according to the recent buyers I've talked to seem to be hinged on pure nostalgia. In 1991 this was a hot character and people back in the day are remembering again and seeking #1s out. I don't think some of these buyers are even vaguely aware of the more recent Darkhawk appearances but yet there is growing pent up demand for HG #1s. Also its 22 years later and the 25 year rule is coming into fruition here (why is this in the modern thread again?) .
  13. I followed that auction ( as an active bidder ). I used to own a WP 9.6. Still the only 9.8 Oh really? Were you close to the final bid? Can't remember. Can even remember what it went for. http://www.comiclink.com/text/2009-11recordpricesrealized.htm Scroll down a bit to see....
  14. I followed that auction ( as an active bidder ). I used to own a WP 9.6. Still the only 9.8 Oh really? Were you close to the final bid?
  15. All the DD21s that have appeared on eBay thus far don't seem to have the notation. So maybe CGC has not added to the label description yet...
  16. A few things i see right away that limit me personally as a potential buyer... -You are in Canada. -Your feedback # is low Ya, hate the feedback thing, but I'm not a business, so it's hard to up the selling quickly. How does the Canada thing affect you guys in the States buying from us through eBay??? Customs charges??? just a hastle??? Thanks for the feedback Being in Canada, you could never compete with shipping to the USA because US buyers will always find a cheaper shipping option in the states for the same book you might be offering. I get SOOO many US buyers wanting me to reduce the shipping rate on auctions (mostly CGC books) and I have to explain to them I'm in Canada and that is the real cost of shipping. And now I see alot of US buyers won't even browse international auctions so your potential buyer base is even more limited. I personally don't understand why you wouldn't search internationally because you could miss out out on a rare or one of a kind item. That top census book you've been scrounging around for could be available in the UK as a cheap BIN!
  17. Out of over 1000 submissions to CGC this is the only MS5 that hit 9.8 thus far. I don't know the complete history of this copy but it popped up around fall 2009 and I acquired it in a C-Link auction that November.
  18. I think I have 9 or 10 now? This pic was taken when I was at 'peak' copies, sold some since then:
  19. Thought I'd share.... been sitting in a box for too long. Still the only top census copy.
  20. Hey guys, tried a search for this as it was probably covered already but found nothing: For the Revival #1 Third Eye Comic variant is there a noteable difference for copies that have the Third Eye Comics and Awesome Conventions logo in the top hand corner as oppose to the bottom hand corner? Thanks
