  1. None of the comments about the state of the market are off topic. Comics that are heating up do not heat up in a vacuum. Lest this thread become nothing more than a stupid list of books with up-trending sales prices and no meaningful discussion of the whys and wherefores, sales context and the market as a whole are all on topic discussions. But I think everyone already knew that.
  2. What a clean, great looking sig. That book is baller.
  3. Luva Floof was my favorite LUXX incarnation. I am really sorry for your loss. I didn't know him, but I sure enjoyed his presence when he was active.
  4. I am not talking about a book that has been "cleaned" and I don't think Adamantium is either. It is important for clarity's sake to understand that. I am talking about books that because of their extreme high grade and beautiful preservation have the effect of being partially see through. The pressing and cleaning thing is a complete red herring.
  5. Now that you put it that way, I have noticed that on some very high grade examples of Silver Age books - again usually with very light colored covers. I do know what that effect that you are describing looks like. To the OP, if that is what you are describing, there is never any negative effect on grade as a result of that effect. My TTA 59 was like that. Thanks for posting ADAMANTIUM. I didn't mean to muddy the waters.
  6. It sounds like you are talking about ink bleed through - where the image directly "below" the cover is bleeding through the cover. It is prevalent and noticeable on many white and other very light colored covers. This is not in anyway related to pressing or cleaning, although I could certainly see poor pressing involving over-hydration exacerbating the problem. My experience is that severe bleed through can/could affect the grade, but not in any consistently predictable fashion.
  7. I'm sorry - sarcasm is the last resort of a weak intellect. But sometimes I just can't help it.
  8. No, they keep a stockpile of the old labels and never use them except when someone sends in a re-holder.
  9. It appears to me that there is a grass-roots movement to convince the mods to ban HOS members, or disable their ability to post at the least.
  10. It is not up to the members. It is up to the hosts. The hosts repeatedly have avoided anything that results in an outright ban (presumably even bad actors may still get stuff slabbed). This discussion appears to be trying to move the needle on that.
  11. No refund, Howie. Seriously, though, my opinion is based upon doing dozens (toward hundreds) of celebrity signings. There are too many variables, and with a new hot talent like Felicity Jones, I would be willing to be that there was little to no access to her or the handlers beforehand to negotiate colors or freshness of Sharpies. The sig is a little light, sure, but it is hardly "barely visible." You can see the clear basic outline of every stroke of the pen, it just was a little dry.
  12. @nookworm - ignore the PMs requesting pictures, of anything.
  13. Here is how it used to be. Until someone got the ban hammer, they were allowed to post, regardless of status as PL or HOS. However, we were allowed to post - one time - that the person was PL or HOS, so that anyone who was not conversant with the list or how it worked could educate themselves before doing business with that person. There was, therefore, no trolling by saying "This person is HOS." It did not impede any transaction, and it did not cause undue consternation on the Boards, or pernts. This was a well-reasoned and logical policy, and it should be followed. Arch should be notified if CGCmod8 has interpreted "notification" as "trolling."
  14. I don't have any handwriting training, but one of the main things I look for is provenance. If it is from 1992-4, in my mind it is suspect because it is pretty well known that some other people were signing as Kirby during that time frame. If it is on the cover of an FF 8, also probably suspect, b/c cover signatures on vintage books were not very popular until the CGC era and I don't think Kirby would do it. If it is a nice tight sig on the splash page of a SA BA book, that is good provenance, and if it looks good, chances are it is legit.
  15. When you look at the dark side, careful you must be . . . for the dark side looks back.
