  1. Actually, you were a ranting, insulting tool - a characteristic consistently displayed throughout all of your communication. My mind was changed fairly easily, in light of CGC touting the clarity of its cases in its marketing materials. Newton rings obscure the clarity of the cases. That is a quantifiable deviation from what they are purporting to put into the marketplace. I was not aware of this marketing material. Marwood brought it to my attention, civilly. This entire situation is a microcosm of the widening gulf in civility in discourse. People can't disagree without marginalizing, name calling and abuse. It's sad. And you are a tool.
  2. Where is your high energy response to the fact that you resorted to name calling and insults first, tool?
  3. What a hilarious low energy response from a tool who included in his first response to me - "moronic," " if you can muster up some more wit" and "just sound like some company shill. Yawn." via Imgflip Meme Generator
  4. I can't really argue about the visual display thing in light of that - LOL. I had no idea that they were trumpeting their case as "ideal for display." My perspective has always been that the comic (and the certification of grade or witnessed signature) is important, and the case is not. But definitely, if CGC is going to market based upon crystal clear display. They are failing. By the way, MTG_comoccollector, that is an example of how to civilly tell someone they are flat wrong and how to gracefully admit it.
  5. You don't care about science and you don't care that CGC doesn't care. And you don't care that 85% of the people that buy the things don't care. Until it hits CGC's bottom line, they are not going to care, and at this point I no longer care about the discussion. I also think you are a tool.
  6. I'm really sorry that you are so bitter and angry, and that the rainbow effect created by two pieces of plastic touching could cause you such obvious displeasure. I hope against all hope that you can somehow find a way to plow through this tragic set of circumstances and muster the strength to carry on your important crusade against newton rings. May the displayability of all collectibles improve under your watchful and vigilant eye. It's noble work you are doing, MTG_comiccollector. Godspeed!
  7. The issue doesn't show up in cards because there is no plastic to plastic contact. Newton rings are a refractory-type optical effect caused by plastic to plastic contact. It is not a defect because it doesn't affect the comic or the security of the case. It's cool if you don't like it, and its cool if you avoid books that show them. But its like getting upset that your box of popsicles has frost on the outside. It looks bad, but it doesn't affect the popsicles inside. There is nothing anyone can do to fix science and make newton rings not appear (at least not under the current design of the holder). Finally, your statement that they are to "ensure a displayable piece" is not accurate. CGC grades and encapsulates comic books. They do not agree to met anyone's standard of "displayability." Again, it is your prerogative to avoid the product, but not liking something does not make it defective.
  8. Max the Hare is MAYBE a prototype for The Maxx. Sort of like that goofy Monster Boy character in Best Cellars is a Goon prototype. They are neat books, for sure, but not 1st appearances.
  9. I would always take about 1/2. I get paid for stating on top of trends in the comic world, and I leave some behind for everyone else. But that is only for books on the stands. Back issues I would take them all and leave only one - so that when the guiy behind the desk asked if I had taken them all, I could say "No" without lying.
  10. I haven't posted in this thread, but we have had discussions regarding Ross Andru Spidey going back 10 years. It was true then and it is true now. In my minds eye, when I think of Peter, MJ, Spidey, Punisher, the Goblin, Doc Ock, JJJ, Robbie Robertson, Harry, Liz and especially Aunt May, they all look the way that Ross Andru drew them in 1976-1978. There is no greater compliment I can give to the man and his craft.
  11. What are your interests? Most of my collection is listed here: http://www.golden-age-collectibles.com/ComicsList.asp?SCId=28 It will help if you talk a little bit about what you are into. Different sources can have wildly different material from different eras.
  12. I went to see it last night. It was really bad. I really wanted to see a movie, and I saw a movie. That's about the best thing I can say.
  13. That is not going to motivate anyone to do anything. If you are serious, offer $50 a sig. I've done it before. It works as significant motivation. Also remember that there may be serious caps on the number of books he is signing. He has done that MANY times in the past.
  14. The census has not been updated to show a "Virgin" #3. So if it is going to happen, it hasn't happened yet.
  15. Oh yeah it was for the bread. Anything over 9.4 got CGC'd.
  16. I sold most of them raw, got two signed by Frank Miller, and have blue label slabbed 5 or 6 of them. There may be 3 or 4 left, but they are beaters (comparatively) in the VF range.
  17. It will be hard to get a straight answer from anyone over forty who remembers dozens of quarter box copies in every comics shop, flea market and second book store in the 80s and 90s. I have owned 20-30 copies over the years, none of them cost over a dollar.
  18. It's a cool idea. It sort of runs parallel to the trend of people not completing runs but rather collecting 1st appearances, certain artists' covers or interior art, classic covers, genre etc. It seems to have very little downside. If it sputters out, it sputters out. But if it takes off, it becomes one stop shopping for a certain group of collectors. I would have loved it when I was buying. A Marvel picture frame thread featuring everything from beater readers to Ghost Town's delicious undercopies would be really fun.
  19. Vince Colletta. Can I vote again? Vince Colletta
  20. Whenever I think there is nothing new under the sun as it relates to comics from 1970-1979, something like this shows up. Thanks for the posts guys. ApeSlayer!
