  1. A couple of Crowley's books. The gloss on 22 is unreal.
  2. It is a conserved copy with married inner wraps (no color touch). Special to me nonetheless.
  3. It is interesting to me that there are very few restored books which include any history (i.e. receipts, before/after pics, photos of resto areas, etc.) of the work performed on them. Sure there are a few, but by and large this is noticeably absent. I realize that in some cases the restoration was unknown until it was discovered by CGC. However, there are countless examples of valuable books with professional repair and no accompanying details. Good money has been spent conserving/repairing/restoring these treasured books, and the folks doing this work are true artists. Once the book is encapsulated and sold, that info is gone. Would not the hobby as a whole benefit from encouraging this kind of record keeping? This kind of documentation certainly exists in other art fields. Maybe it's naive. Just my two cents. Sorry, for the sidebar.
  4. A recent $100 purchase from the LCS. Definitely a reader, but cover is attached and no tape or rusty staples. I think the image is insane.
  5. I don't want to derail this topic, but what are some thoughts on Restored vs Coverless in this price range?
  6. We often get to see some of the highest graded examples of these books here on the boards. However, I think it is also a treat to see those that have great eye appeal despite their "flaws." Keep them coming, and thanks for sharing.
  7. Is this evidence of at least 1 comic book that was represented by 2 copies in the Cookeville pedigree? Thoughts?
  8. Scrooge and AJD: both of those books are gems. Curious, do you know the highest possible grade for a book with completely split and detached cover?
  9. Good evening all. I snagged a couple of books in the last year with detached covers, which looked nicer than their grade. I thought I'd show them off and see if I can get some of you to post pictures of yours. I find these types of books appealing because the "eye appeal per dollar" quotient is nice. Just have to be careful that the covers aren't detached due to rusty staples. I'll start with Flash Comics #5. It has White pages. CGC grader's notes reflect: "Bottom Front Cover Small Tear; Bottom Spine Small Spine Split; Right Top Back Cover Piece Out; Staple Cover Detached; Top Spine Small Spine Split." The top spine split does not appear to go all the way down through the yellow, even though it may appear that way in photo.
  10. It's my first time to this Con. I'm driving out from Phoenix with my very tolerant wife. I look forward to meeting everyone. BTW, my name is Don.
  11. If you have any More Fun issues with Spectre covers, I'd be interested.
  12. Meant to add these as well. The interior shot is a cellphone pic taken by me (admittedly a lousy photographer). I just wanted to show how clean and bright it is. Take care.
  13. Hello again. This is my second post to the CGC boards. I have one book published from 1939. It is probably my prettiest Golden Age comic. The colors are vibrant, and the pages are white. I think it has a cool cover, and it was on the news stand at the same time as Detective 27. Oh, and it's the highest CGC graded ... sort of .... I cracked it out to look at it. Silly me.
  14. Hi everyone. I have been lurking in the shadows here on the CGC boards for some time but never tried posting anything. So here goes. My apologies if this doesn't turn out. Here is my one and only Okajima copy. She's a beauty. Regards, Don
