  1. Check out warrelics.eu/forum, these guys are hardcore battlefield archeologists. You would be shocked at what is still laying around, 60, 70, 80 years later. These are mostly European/Eastern European archeologists who search places like Stalingrad, Kursk, the Courland Pocket for relics from the Second World War. More often than not they find lots of unexploded ordinance, rusted weapons laying on the ground and the remains of soldiers.

I'm not pimping their site, it's just something I find interesting.

Huge difference between archaeologists and relic hunters.

That is what they refer to themselves as, "battlefield archaeologists". There are detractors who would say they are grave robbers, relic hunters, and I'm sure some of them are.

  3. Flea market score (I think), bear with me through the narrative.

On Saturday I went to a local flea market that had advertised they were running a comic show from 10-4. There were supposed to be 80 comic vendors inside, got there at about 10am and found 10 comic vendors instead of 80, but at least admission was free. Tons of beat up silver comics present, Bats 121 in horrendous condition priced at $140, lots of hot moderns priced over what you can get them for on Ebay and long box after long box of 90's drek. But I did stumble across a YTLM 9.4 with a price tag of $50 and the same vendor also had a Batman The Killing Joke 1st print NM+ for $20. The entire time I was looking through his long boxes he stressed that the books would be discounted. I finish my search (passing over at least 2 complete sets of the Dark Knight Returns that looked fantastic but I only brought $100 with me) and hand him the books for purchase. He looks over the YTLM and Batman TKJ and tells me $40 total. Sorry no pics as photobucket is being stupid. But here is a link to the YTLM

    Hey other Dave -

Did this combination flea market/comic show happen to be in northern-ish Illinois?

It was, at the Wolf Flea Market in Palatine. They've been advertising this as Mighty-con for the last 8 months or so. I went to the first Mighty-con in August of 2012, and I think the number of vendors was the same.

I was there, too. I think I've been to every Mighty Con so far. It's nice in that you get vendors together in the same place, but usually the same vendors every time it runs. The FREE price was very nice, though.

Somehow I missed that YTLM - nice grab. I don't remember picking up much, but a couple good buys.

I got 4 issues of Sixth Gun at cover, if that counts as a score.

    Depends on which ones...

    9, 12, 14, 19 I also bought issue 2 for $12, probably a VF copy -NM at best.

Yes, I saw that #2 sitting there. Wasn't sure if I wanted it or not in that condition - would just be for flipping. I also put back a couple Peter Panzer #2 b/c of condition. Was that the booth the YLTM was at?

I picked up a couple Teen Titans #44, a DC Comics Present #26, a Jimmy Olsen #134, a New Mutants Annual #2 for a quarter...can't think of what else right now.

    -- dave

No, the booth with the YTLM was 2 aisles to the east. The booth with the Sixth Gun's also had lots of hot moderns well over ebay prices, GPA and the moon. I remember a raw WD with a $300 tag, the back looked like a road map with all the CB creases. They had some raw YTLM 2-7 but I was afraid to ask how much. One dealer had a nice box of moderns but they were all mixed together. This box was set for display, everything was priced, but when I went to look through them the dealer also started pawing through them too. This was after he pointed the box out.

    It was already graded?

It sure was, I couldn't believe he only wanted $50 sticker price.

  9. Red Hood and the Outlaws #1 @ $15+ & 5 bids.

I put one up last week.. 19.99 +shipping BIN and it sold a day later

Crazy. Might have to hit the LCS a little sooner than Wednesday this week. When did this book come out? hm

It was part of the New 52 launch I do believe.

:censored: I'm kicking myself for some of the books I passed on.

Yep.. came out October 2011 I believe.

Funny thing is.. I walked in to a shop that had a bin filled with New 52 books. As soon as I walked over to the box, the owner said: "Anything in the box is a dollar. The New 52 was the worst thing DC has ever done. I just want to get rid of them."

Ended up grabbing Nightwing, Red Hood and Suicide Squad #1s. I even got one of them free because he hated the New 52 so much that he said they were 'buy two get one free"

This was less than a year ago, when Nightwing was already going for $20 on eBay.

Nightwing 4 has cooled hasn't it? I remember selling my copy for $20+ last year.

I sold a pair in NM to NM+ for more than $20 each in the last two weeks.

I sold a Nightwing 4 that l listed as VF/-NM for $26 just last week. Funny thing is I couldn't move it on the boards at $11.

  10. Final Fantasy XIII has awesome combat. The problem is it takes 15 hours until the game opens up the entire system to you, so most people stopped playing before the game actually got good. The art design is amazing too. I have XIII-2, but haven't played it yet.

I tried Final Fantasy X and couldn't stand it because I hated the characters, voice acting and dialogue. Same with X-2. I liked FF XII better, but never finished it. And I've never played any before X.

FF XII is epic once you get into it, the hunter's quests and Esper's can take hours off your life. I played that game for 122 hours and still didn't complete everything. It is worth revisiting if you didn't finish IMO.

  12. Depends a bit on what you are expecting. As a single player/co-op game with a fun story and nice quests, lore et cetera it's great. Reminds me of kotor :)

As a mmorpg it's pretty boring in the long run, endgame, instances, itemization, raids etc. Most of the ppl I know stopped playing it pretty fast. Pvp is not my thing but I know a lot of ppl found that pretty lack-lusting also.

So yeah, Worth getting but dont expect a sensational mmo.

Thanks for the info (thumbs u

  13. Opened up X-Com: Enemy Unknown the other night around 8 pm and the next time I looked up it was 3 am.

Killer game, nice to see a quality strategy title on a console system. I never played the original, but might have to go back. So good!

I did the exact same thing with Farcry 3 yesterday, it was 8pm when I started and I look at my phone a bit later and it's 1am.
