  1. I'm pleased to say a lot of progress has been made in the past month. It has been no easy road. Nothing is ever straightforward in India! But the rewards have far outweighed the difficulties.
  2. $2,950 Wow, glad I was able to grab the one recently sold at HA. It must have been a long period of extended bidding I am thinking. Actually no. The bidding exploded after I put in my slightly more modest bid - and it got to the closing amount before any extended bidding. I get the impression that this book may be one of those things that I regret not picking up years ago. Interesting outcome on that book. I know of at least a half dozen folks here on the boards who are chasing this run with some regularity/focus. I am sure there will be more who are not forum members. I love this run and it will be interesting to see if the price growth is something that will sustain itself over the upcoming years, or whether it will slow down after collectors start filling their vacancies in their runs. Some of the prices on the lower grade issues seem to have gotten a bit softer over the last year in my opinion. EDIT - at least in the middle and later issues. Earlier examples seem to have risen significantly in value in all grades. I was rooting for Andy to win the CC auction copy because he only needs a couple to complete the run. Me? These days I'm just a tourist. I think #14 will probably hold it's value, because there are more collectors than copies at any given time. I also have a sneaky, contrary thought that maybe neither book is quite as scarce as its legend says. Or put it another way - how scarce are #14 and #15 relative to #2, #5, #6, #10, #13, #17, #18? This is always subjective, but I've seen more #15's than #13's - and I've now owned, and sold, four or five low grade #14's.
  3. Any idea who is the artist on that cover Richard Harry Harrison I believe: "In art school I teamed up with Wally Wood, and you'll see a lot of old comics signed Harrison-Wood, and that's the Harrison and that's the Wood. Wally and I worked together for years, we started in school, selling our stuff, and goodness knows which magazines we worked for: there were 650 titles a month in those days, things like Captain Rocket and Rangeland Romances. Despite that quote from Harrison, the cover to Capt Rocket is almost certainly the work of Harry Anderson. Harrison may have done work on Capt Science with Wood as well as other titles and just confused the names after the passing of years. Thanks Adam! In that quote, Harrison isn't actually saying he worked on Captain Rocket - more like he cant remember ('goodness knows which magazines we worked for'). But it has been used by others to credit him. In passing, the figure of Captain Rocket seems far better realized than the space girl behind him. She is a bit more reminiscent of Harrison's style, maybe. I look at the figure of Captain Rocket, and -of all people - think of Everett. (The hair, the knuckles of the hand...) But you wouldn't say Anderson without very good reason! It's a very long time since I read a copy. Who did the interior art?

  6. Flex, I have never experienced envy in my adult life, that is, until I saw your Planet collection. Planet 65 is my top cover of all-time. Love and rockets. Thanks Rick. I will never achieve what artboy has or jhutton is about to because I am always upgrading the ones I already have! The #65 is my favorite too. Thanks to Mr Bedrock for that one!
