  1. Bingo! Give the man a prize I'm just headless over heels about winning a prize!
  2. You have no problem here, because everyone whose been ribbing you is the opposite of racist. But respectfully, racism persists where needless censorship does our thinking for us. We understand perfectly well that the term "jap" is pejorative. But it is the accurate terminology for the category of funny book covers shown in this thread because that's what's on the covers. [And please dont accuse me of racial intolerance for disagreeing with you. I havent spoken to my brother in law for over a decade because of his irredeemable intolerance towards asians - and I'm a white christian whose volunteered in a moslem village for over 20 years. And believe me that's no big deal around here.] So welcome to the boards. Join us in celebrating the funny books we love!
  3. Thank you Mr. Parker. But I will know I have finally arrived when you call me 'geek' instead of 'sir.' I've personally always felt that "geek" was a racist term.
  4. It's all fascinating stuff - so rich in nostalgia!
  5. It looks more like the movie might be good Netflix viewing. I'm not certain about paying full price for a night out at the movies. What's the buzz among REH fans? Disappointment at a missed opportunity mostly. Instead of adapting one of REH's stories and treating the material with respect like Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, instead we're getting a fun but forgettable popcorn flick along the lines of the new Clash of the Titans or Prince of Persia only with more boobs and blood. There is hope though that Jason Mamoa's portrayl of Conan himself will be more in line with Howard's vision than Arnold's was. He was surprisingly good in Game of Thrones I thought.
  6. and thank you, pons, for looking out for a brother at the con. Love 'em! Guess it takes teamwork to land them these days - they sure are tough! This set will be a true labour of love to put together!
  7. Damn! But who forgot about All Star #3? The mindless minions of the Pre-Robin Tec and Actions under #20 only club. What's the opposite of a mindful minion? Wonderful set Bill - it's so much more fun when you decide for yourself what a meaningful set is!
  8. Thanks Rick, thanks Bill! I think this is the most satisfying run I've ever put together.
  9. Here's my group shot of the rivet run - sharp eyes will note the absence of #11. Could do with a few upgrades as well! I've included the other issues I have below #40. Sorry about the quality [- wish I could borrow Sharon's lovely floor to lay 'em out but I have to make do!]. Oh and a big vote of thanks to GAtor for some of the tough early issues. Without his help I would never have got there! A few details:
  10. Earthshaker, since you have a camera it would be great to see some group shots!
  11. ....okay! Maybe not that much of a coincidence!
  12. I recognize that panel... I own the original strip. Of course you do! This blows my mind just a little bit. I can't tell if this was an incredible coincidence or a very likely outcome, given BangZoom's collection. Either way, it's very cool. (thumbs u I expected BZ to have some original Herriman art but given how much has survived it's just a remarkable coincidence that he would have the very same artwork!
  13. Another one to look forward to is the long awaited facsimile reprint of William Timlin's The Ship that Sailed to Mars this September The Ship that Sailed to Mars William Timlin
  14. A contemporary cartoonist who seems to have been influenced by Herriman is the australian Michael Leunig.
