  1. WOW, that's $7,500 in grading fees and about a 12 month wait...Kudos to you!

    More pictures?!?

    Absolutely!

Some boardies pointed out that the big auction houses would front the dough for grading and deduct from the auction sales...but I'm not really planning to sell anytime soon, so yeah, the grading fees were i-n-t-e-n-s-e. And the wait took about 8 months, so far. Still waiting on the rest. The whole collection is just shy of 800 books. Includes runs of all the major SA Marvel titles, Bronze keys, some DC books, underground books, a few GA books, and all of the comics that Harlan had a hand in (either directly or indirectly) as a creator. Plus certificates of authenticity signed by Harlan.

Here are some craptastic photos and some decent scans. Enjoy!

  2. Undergrounds in those boxes yet?

Just one book. It's curious, because the underground stuff were the first books I saw and snapped them up immediately. It wasn't until I saw the motherlode that I bought en masse. So you'd think those books would have been graded first, but they graded all the high dollar books first, and now working their way down.

Am I to believe CGC thinks the underground stuff is less important? Wouldn't think so after the new pedigree and all.

  3.

Awesome books, but they should not be noted in the pedigree field since they arent pedigrees. The collection field was already filled in where it should be.

CGC did the same thing with the Don Rosa collection. In fact the Boards argued about this with many believing it was a pedigree. I even called CGC and they said Don Rosa

is not a pedigree, the presence of the word 'collection' indicating thus. Hoiwever, I agree with you, it is not a Pedigree and should not be noted in the pedigree field.

    Nice collection !

I wondered about that as well, but figured the word "collection" would settle any confusion. I wasn't aware of the same thing on the Don Rosa books.

With a few of the restored books, or books that Harlan wrote, the collection field is jam-packed with details and there simply isn't room, so the collection provenance had to go somewhere else.

  4. Went to NYC and visited Metropolis' offices (still in AWE from all the original covers on the walls). Came home and found CGC boxes waiting for me. More of the Harlan Ellison Collection.

As you'd expect the grading is all over the map.

  5. It seems like the bias comes from jealousy. It's presumed that Doug had a healthy flow of ill-managed cash and said cash was used to buy some truly great books.

Now Doug is sorry, those clients have been made whole and those books are worth millions. Legally, he's in he clear. Morally, he skated by.

Perhaps it's the strange feeling that Doug indirectly benefited this year from past crimes?
