  1. My latest Comiclink win is a book I've been after in grade for a while...
  2. Any thought on the final hammer price on the 1.5 with 4 days left on Clink? It's a nice looking book save for the clipped corner. It's currently at just under $4,000.
  3. I'm certain that Animaniacs #15 belongs on the list. I bought one of those two packs from Mile High to get mine (incidentally also a great way to get the Pinky and the Brain #1). If I weren't overseas right now I'd have supplied a photo of mine rather than the eBay link. I know I'd like to see the #15 with the WB symbol. I've never seen one of those. It's not a subset I'm after yet, but I'd certainly buy them if I saw them.
  4. No, Animaniacs #15 belongs on the DCU list. I've got one of these two packs for this very reason.
  5. I should be there Sunday. I originally thought I could make it out Friday as well but that is looking increasingly unlikely.
  6. A lot of people were very unhappy with the paint job on the first one (I liked it). But this new one is awesome. What was the big complaint with the first one? And was it a problem through the entire run, or just some specific statues? They didn't like the skin tone. I think all of them. Right, that's what I read as well. Even with that issue, heck maybe even BECAUSE of that issue, I'm really surprised that they're returning to that well so soon. At any rate, these all look amazing, but it's SDCC, so of course they do. What comes out of the factory may be another issue entirely. Unless it's an exclusive I just have to have (which isn't often anymore) I pretty much take a wait and see approach on SST's PF's anymore. Except for the Daredevil which I went ahead and ordered blind, for which I'm being rewarded with multiple delays. Gotta love Sideshow!) Of course you did.
  7. Thanks! Has anyone yet put together a list of which bricks/sets yield which DCUs? That interests me, and it seems like that would help with some kind of rarity factor chart on these variants.
  8. Some things I've heard have confused me on the coupon, so I figured this would be the place to ask. I know they did away with the coupons, but have heard that for renewals CGC has still given coupons. Was that just a short window if you were fortunate enough to re-up right after the announcement, or is that really something that still applies to a renewal? I'm guessing the former, and I have no plans to re-up without the coupons. Thanks!
  9. ...... Shoot for the keys first...... they're more likely to hold value..... and most of them were good. I'll PM you more information when I've given it some thought.... and I'm sure others will chime in as well. Thanks. Any advice would be welcome. I am working with a limited budget so keys might be a stretch. I am not too worried about high grade-- some nice mid grade books would be great. My initial thought was JIM books in the 40-82 number range that have a Kirby cover and bonus would be Kirby art. MY other thought was looking at some good copies of reprints from those eras that were prevalent in the early 1970s (I have many of these already). Perhaps I should check out some TPBs to read the stories and look at the art to find the ones I find attractive too. Getting the actual SA books won't be cheap (heck-- I still don't have any pre-100 JIMs and Thor is my main book I collect-- though I am only missing 6 of them from the 100-125 range). anyway== that was were I am at in the thought process. Thanks for responding. That makes it "easy" for you with JIM becoming a primary focus...... although some are tougher than others. There are plus factors involved in completing the entire run..... from 1-125. It's probably the most liquid run from Marvel that straddles the Atlas and mainstream Marvel eras, with Strange Tales a close second. I believe Kirby started with JIM 51(?) and was a regular fixture from there on. If you can be happy with 5.0 and less, it shouldn't take more than a year or two to fill them in if Kirby is the cut off. Some of them are very difficult in high grade, but I would recommend getting one or two of your favorites in VF or better..... these things are just breathtaking in nice shape. Getting all the Kirby issues in VG/F could be done with a little patience for around 2K for the lot. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u I would argue that maybe ST is #1 in liquidity and availability, but that may just be me. JIM is a great run to work on with pre-hero, and has the advantage of being slightly shorter than ST in terms of being able to complete it (if you want to take it back to #1). JIM is my "fun" pre-hero project, which basically means that I am less serious about grade in this title than I am in the other three runs I'm pursuing (TOS, TTA, and ST in order of seriousness). I'm partial to CGC graded books from #60-82, and raw VGs older than that. It is fun to feel freer to pick up nicely presenting lower grade books, which is a compromise I allow myself in the longer titles of JIM and ST simply because I can't afford to pursue the really early books in my preferred grade range of 6.0-7.5. As Jimbo said, if you're not super grade conscious and are happy with nice VGs then you can fill in this run quite reasonably. I recently picked up a nice VGish #43 on eBay for like $45. I bought a G/VG #9 here on the boards for $100. And one of my favorite pickups from last year (which I'm never shy to post the scan of) was this very affordable copy of #1.
  10. Yes, but I haven't chased it since it is so obscured. I may go after it now that I have slain this particular dragon. I wish you much luck on the new quest and congrats on finding the test pilot little book. Have you considered going after the various toys etc and try to recreate the entire drawer? I bet RobotMan has most of that stuff. I like the BLBs as they're similar to comics and thus close enough to my usual collecting to be interesting. It'd be fun to put the drawer together, but that'd end up just being more stuff out of my focus I'd have to find space for. Sadly I already have plenty in that category to fuss with.
  11. I think it'd be a 3.0-3.5 if not for the tape along the spine and the three extra staples. The original staples are in place, so I'm not sure why all that was necessary. The book is complete and readable at least.
  12. That copy on eBay is ridiculous (grade, not price, that may very well be fair but just more than I'm interested in investing in this particular quest). I'm perfectly happy with the copy I got for $25. Yes, but I haven't chased it since it is so obscured. I may go after it now that I have slain this particular dragon.
  13. Good question. Like many of the older books, there will likely emerge certain Icon examples that will retain their appeal. Their relative scarcity in decent shape will likely soften any fall. GOD BLESS... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u I'd agree with all this. I would also add that completionists that are after the hero runs of many of these books (especially the "big four" of ST, JIM, TTA, TOS) will also end up going after the pre-hero segment of the title and get the bug. I think that this is one of the reasons that some of the "non-hero" Atlas pre-hero (WOM, Astonishing, Uncanny Tales, etc) tend to have much softer prices relative to those main four books that made it into the hero era.
  14. Found this a couple of weekends ago at an antique store. If you're a fan of "A Christmas Story" you'll recognize this as the BLB that is in Ralphie's teacher's desk drawer. I've been looking for one of these for quite a while.
  15. I had a good day of hitting a number of shops in the Midwest. Sorry if the picture is sideways or something, I took it on my iPhone and sometimes they flip around... One other book I picked up was kind of interesting. It was my first sticker book, and I can't recall if any Green Lantern books had been previously known to have stickers. I just remember Batman and maybe Superman books. Anyway, here it is.
  16. Just got this beauty in the mail today. This was one of the tougher issues of the run for me to find a keeper of; you just don't see many of these (at least I don't), and especially not in grade.
  17. Got a great deal on a low grade #108 yesterday, I'll try to post a scan or a pic later.
  18. I love this run. Very healthy prices across the board on pre-hero in the Clink auction last night. I got crushed on everything I bid on, and I went with fairly healthy bids on a few of them. Anyone win anything?
  19. $9,832 on the 3.5, $20,050 on the 6.0.
