  1. Loving this thread! I was familiar with Dave and the impact of his Saturday Review of Literature letter, but there are plenty of other details here that I hadn't heard before. Amazing detective work! Thanks!
  2. Just to be clear, comments here are welcome. I don't mind a bit of a "derail" in the slightest. I figured I'd be revealing my age with that comment, but I typically make no effort to keep my age a secret. I also thought some young whippersnappers might not get the reference, but figured they could just Google it if they are curious. I actually Googled it before I posted, because I was just about to post a reference to the "Samsonite gorilla." That's when I realized that the commercial I remember as Samsonite was actually an American Tourister commercial.
  3. Three Bone statues, with four characters. As a set. $150 for all. 1) Fone Bone statue. Fone should be holding crumpled up plastic map. But he's not. The map is missing, sadly. 2) Smiley Bone statue, in the cow costume. 3) Red Dragon statue, with Ted the Bug. The dragon's pretty large and makes this lot big and heavy. Count on shipping being at the upper end of what I noted above. If you're interested, just LMK and I'll get you a shipping quote.
  4. Some great statuary for your comic room or person cave. These were a part of my collection over the last couple decades, but have been in storage for the past 8 years and so I decided recently to part with them. All are complete and in great shape with their original boxes, unless otherwise noted. This is a somewhat lazy post. That is, I'm too lazy to take each statue out of the box for photographing, packaging, weighing, calculating shipping, etc. on the chance that somebody wants it. Want to see photos of a specific statue? Want an exact shipping price? I'm happy to take photos of the statue, not just the box, for you. Just ask. You're also welcome to post "take it pending... pics/shipping under $20/etc." I charge exact shipping via US Mail, shipped from zip code 01103. I ship within three business days of receiving payment. Shipping can be expensive, probably anywhere from $12 to $45 within the US, depending on the size and how far I'm shipping. If you want an exact shipping quote, let me know and I'll be glad to get it for you. Want to save on shipping? If you want to meet me in Springfield, MA, then shipping will set you back exactly zero. While this particular post is lazy, my shipping is definitely not. I make sure to package your purchase with sufficent packing that it's extremely difficult to damage your valuable collectibles. I NEVER rely on something like "fragile" or "do not bend" on a package because I don't believe those notices matter one bit on a package. I assume your package will be handled by somebody who is will treat it like a gorilla treats American Tourister luggage, and I pack accordingly. Payment by Paypal is expected within 3 days. The usual rules apply. No HOS, no probationites. If I somehow misrepresented an item or missed a significant flaw, I'll gladly accept a return at my expense within 30 days. If you want to return it for any other reason within 14 days, you're welcome to do so at your expense for return shipping. "Take it" in thread trumps all. I'll listen to offers, but I searched for comps and tried my best to come up with really competitive pricing on everything.
  5. And here's a teaser for another item coming up. Why was there such a proliferation of crime comics in 1948? The origin story is coming up. Stay tuned!
  6. Here's a recent score in the pre-SOTI department, although this one predates SOTI by only about a month. SOTI was released in April, 1954; this report was dated March, 1954. The NY State Legislature had a committee that was studying comic books, and that committee published reports in 1950, 1951, 1952, 1954, 1955, 1956, and 1957. [I have no idea why they published nothing in 1953. Anybody know or have any theories?] My website has a page on the NY Legislative Committee, including a link to the full text of this 1954 document. 7. Thanks for checking out my thread. One package has been shipped and received. The rest of the items go out with the recycling next week.
  8. Packing now. I'm sure one more poster won't add to the shipping cost.
  9. 1) Death stand-up, intended to stand on a check-out counter. Advertising numerous Death products. 2) Death poster advertising The Time of Your Life 3) The Crow Brandon Lee poster (not a promotional item) 4) The Crow ad for the Crow statue. 5) The Crow ad for Tundra TPB's. 6) Sin City Family Values. I thought it was a promotional poster, but flipped it over to find that it's really just an issue of Dark Horse Insider. Cool for display, though. 7) Ultraverse poster. 8) A collection of additional Ultraverse posters. 9) Uncut Concrete trading card sheet. 10) Donna Mia poster, featuring Neil Gaiman, in what I think was his first comic book appearance. No, not his first writing. But the first time he actually was drawn into the story of a comic. If you want one of these, or all of these, just post the "I'll take it" and it's yours for just the cost of shipping to wherever you are. Don't be shy about taking them all. If you have a use for them, or you can sell them, more power to you. I'd prefer not to see these get recycled, but if nobody wants them that's what'll happen. If you're unfamiliar with the cost of shipping or need to know that before you commit, please email me first for a shipping quote. Thanks! -Steve
  10. A few goodies here. Most are promotional items that I had in my store 20+ years ago. They have been gathering dust for the last couple decades, and they don't seem to have a significant monetary value. So I'll ship them for free to anybody who wants one or all of them. If there's no interest, that's fine. They'll go into the recycling and I'll reclaim a little bit of attic real estate. Most of these items show some wear from being on the walls of my store, so you may see some tape or pinholes or other signs of wear. I'll be glad to provide more details if you'd like to know the condition of a specific item. No HOS or probation folks. No returns because, hey, it's free. Shipping is at exact cost, in the US or elsewhere. For a shipping quote, just send me a message and I'll see how much it'll cost. Most of these things could be shipped in the US for about 5 bucks or less. First "take it" in thread gets it.
  11. If you have any interest in the above items, just let me know. If it turns out there's no interest here, that's fine. I'll move on to other pastures. Thanks.
  12. Two Crow posters. One pretty worn, advertising the Crow statue. The other advertising the Crow TPB's. Both were displayed in my store in the 1990's. Folded, they'll fit into a Priority Mail envelope for $6.70. Let's call them $15 shipped in CONUS for the pair.
  13. Set of uncut Concrete cards. Cool, and I've loved Concrete since I bought Dark Horse Presents #1 from my LCS back in the day. But it's time for them to go to a new home. It looks like if I roll this sheet, Priority Shipping will be about $15 in the CONUS. It's yours for $20 shipped.
  14. One lot of Ultraverse posters. Did you like the Ultraverse? So did I. But really, since I haven't put them up in 20 years, I need to part with these posters. Pay me $2, plus $6.70 for Priority Mail, and that should about cover the fees for me to ship them to you.
  15. Sin City Family Values poster. This retail-only poster came out in 1997. You want it? It's yours for, oh, let's say $5 plus shipping. It folds down to 8.5 x 11", so it'll fit in a Priority Mail envelope for $6.70. Oh, and you want it for less? Sure. Just convince me it's going to a good home, and I'm fine with taking less as long as I don't lose money due to PayPal fees, shipping, etc. I'm not doing this to make money. I'm selling this because some crackpot lady on Netflix told me I have to thank my things for their service to me and then kiss them goodbye. And
