Glad I looked at Comics General, would hate to miss this! -
My wife told me while we were driving home today. At first I was shocked, then I was sad. It feels like the last giant has passed.

My wife told me earlier, very sad...feels like someone I know has passed.

There are two total on the census, the other is an 8.5. It’s one of my favorite covers in the series. Would love to see that 8.5!

Do you have that Batman 84 Ian?
-
-
These are two that I have off the top of my head. I will look for more. How is Action 206 not a smoking hot book? Look up Batman 84, I don’t have that one but it’s awesome. Seriously, look up his covers, he’s incredible and incredibly underrated.

On a completely different topic. If Win Mortimer had been working for St. John’s instead of DC his books would be selling like Bakers. He was (IMO) the best artist DC had of the era and his women are beautiful. The difference between him and Baker is the G rated covers of DC versus M for mature that the St. John’s romance titles were.

There may not be another copy like that 8.5, those books are flat out rare in that grade. I’m gonna take a guess that the copy with the price may be the more scarcer version?

I love this kind of stuff, it’s cool to figure this stuff out. That tec is a beauty. One of my favorite time periods for DC’s.
-
Here’s another one, same font as the Superboy
-
I think this is the same month, this is the price font I am used to from this time period. The one on Ian’s ‘Tec is unusual to me
-
That an unusual price font on your 196. It’s as if they left it off at the beginning of the print run and then part way through just slapped one on. I don’t think it’s the usalu font DC was using then?
-
That 196 is from a really tough era for DC’s. Nice book!

Bout a raw NM OO set of this series a few years back, still have read them yet. It was missing the DR8 and one other issue. Seeing this thread reminds me I need to get those two and actually read these books! your set looks awesome!
-
Well, I don’t know about that but as far as level of difficulty it certainly is up there. Thanks Ian.

I started reading the issue: http://comicbookplus.com/?dlid=25676 I have to say I enjoy reading these books. The art is fantastic and the stories are entertaining.

What’s interesting is that the colors in hand look great on the book. I concur with Dr. Love, Ive seen that blue/purple thing a lot on DC’s.

B&B was the very first comic series I “collected”. I’ve been on a 45 year mission to complete a entire set. Most of the ones I have from 120-200 are my off the rack purchases as a kid. It took a backseat for many years while I collected Superman titles, but as I closed in on those runs I came back to this series. I need 15 or so issues to go; I have a 1, but no 28. Think I have 31-200 complete. Since this is a bronze thread, here are a couple of favorites. -
When Will CGC Grade Treasury Size Comics?
Silver replied to Dr. A's topic in Newbie Comic Collecting Questions
I used to think I wanted CGC to slab these as well but I’ve become indifferent to the idea. I have some incredible copies of these from an OO purchase, but I know they are a niche collectible and the while they can be rare or cool, few fetch enough dollars to make slabbing them worthwhile. I have all of mine in mylars and rigid backing boards, they present beautifully. If I were to ever sell any, I don’t imagine the price I could get would be any greater if they were slabbed. The only advantage graded copies would have for me is I wouldn’t have to be disappointed by such poor grading when I bought one raw online. Also, the other grading company is grading them, but not encasing them. I bought one like that and was pleased with the result. Here’s another Halloween beauty. -
