While digging through a box of old comic catalogs, I came across this mailing list from Sept. 1991. It's a little marked up from notes I made. For you old timers out there, you may remember this scandal. Reading over the list just blows you away for the amazing high grade examples advertised.
BUT, what was not made public was the extensive trimming, color touching and fake stamps to the inside splash page of most of the books. I keep two books I bought from them and one book was not messed with. My Sea Devils # 1 which slabbed out a 9.4. The other was heavily trimmed and at first appearance looked near perfect. Anyone else have a stories to tell or books to share about this scam back then?
I remember that ad for eastern copies in CBG. I was interested, glad I never went to purchase any copies. I remember talking to other collectors and dealers at shows about these uncirculated books. They all said they never heard of them. I stayed away, thank goodness !

A dealer I trust for fair pricing, great grading , usually undergrades and is ethical James Payette. There are others I have dealt with over the years also. Harley is great also, Ted van Liew.

AMF has always been a great run. My personal Favorite. I'm glad you still came out ahead in the long run ,Rick. I guess it all balances out in the end.
I wish I could have bid on some of those books myself , but prices are pretty crazy nowadays. I'm happy with the 40 or so Centaurs I do have in my collection that I bought years ago.

It could be Lou Fine pencils with Reed Crandall inks. I think Hit Comics #17 is both of them also. I could be wrong.
Either way, both great artist!!

I just picked up a Mickey Mouse Magazine Vol 3 No 3. Sadly it was missing a few pages most importantly the Snow White centerfold. Still you have to love this cover. Probably my favorite in the volumes. I worked out a deal (refund) with the person I bought it from after I found out about the missing pages. Anyone have an opinion about the value with the missing pages? How rare are these to come by?
Lots of covers to love in the volumes. I couldn’t find a tread on these magazines but what’s everyone favorites and I’d love to see people books if you have em.
I own one also . Great cover! Mine is also missing the centerfold.
