Not so much a book, but when someone new comes on the boards asking what's a good investment. Buy what you like. I know there always has been investors ,nothing wrong with that. But again is that all there is? Then buy stocks , etc. What about the love of the book, hobby , history, etc. Sheesh!!

Rick, I'm sorry about your loss. you said your collectibles were destroyed. Did your Centaur collection survive?

That looks like George Tuska to me . I met him also years ago, what a great guy. I talked to him about his early days , when I bought up Lou Fine he glowed. He said, he was the best with a brush!! I then showed him a Hit Comics # 5 I just purchased at the show. He said that it was beautiful and then showed it to his wife Dorathy. Both were great people. Sadly he is missed. BTW , I also bought a Mystery Men # 5 off of Harley at another show.

I have a Challengers of the Unknown #1 with a blue cover. I have seen copies also of the grey. I think that was they were printed at the end of the printing run. Just a guess??

Congrats! I'm a old timer myself when it comes to comics. I was born in 1957. The 1st comic I distinctly remember having was Batman #143 in a pile that my older cousin gave me. Couldn't read yet , but I loved that monster on the cover. Bought that book again many years later as the original comic got lost in the sands of time. Around 1963 , I bought Fantastic Four # 16 off the newsstand at a place called Johnny's Market. It was a local grocery store in my neighborhood. In 1964 started buying Famous Monsters starting with the yearbook. In 1965 started buying comics again DC then Marvel. I was slowly getting hooked, Came across older back issues at school flea markets. Picked up a collection off a older kid that didn't want them, around 1969. Spiderman # 5 was his oldest issue. Collected Heavy Metal magazine around 1976 into the 1980's. My younger brother who no longer collects told me about a comic store he went to. I went the next visit . This was in 1987. It was like walking into a time machine. this store had great back issues, Golden and Silver. Started going to conventions also. Mail order through the CBG. Been collecting since nonstop. Love this hobby.

Artist #7
Hi everyone
Back from the dead- I've been distracted, is my only excuse
We last left off with mystery Book artist # 6- Roy Krenkel
I've got two more artists to show, back-2-back; one is easy...one is hard
Here's the easy one--Artist #7
As always, guesses-ad infinitum allowed and encouraged...as long as you haven't 'looked-it-up' or know the answer from your personal collections
All answers/guesses, right or wrong, will be acknowledged
No correct guesses in 24 hours & I will reveal...I will list artist #8 this weekend

Big congrats! Your copy looks great! I swear that book was printed with a weak spine off the press. My copy is missing the back cover. It seems to always show up with back cover missing or spine split. Either way it's the front cover that counts. My favorite golden age cover of all. Again welcome to the club of owning one.

Beautiful colors on that book.

8 hours ago, Tony D said:There were several news stands I frequented and sometimes the books were not all in the best condition at one news stand. If I had to go to another news stand, it was not much of an effort because in Brooklyn they were at every train station and there were numerous stands along the main Avenues. There was never a problem buying multiple copies, although I got a few strange looks and comments occasionally about buying multiple copies of the same book. In my neighborhood in Brooklyn, new comics came in from the distributor on Tuesdays and Thursdays in bundles tied with string. The comics on the top and bottom of the bundles were generally not in the best condition due to how tightly tied they were. I got friendly with a couple of the owners and they would let me cut open the bundles to find the best condition books before they were put out for sale.
Oh Boy, that brings back memories. It was the same for me also in South Jersey. I remember the bundles, with string. I always went for a copy in the middle. In the summer I would get up early sometimes and go downtown and wait for the delivery truck. this would be around 1967/1968. Great times. What a way to start my day off!!

Great Book! I have a nice copy of that one also. That book is a bittersweet memory. I spent some of my lunch money on this comic when I was a kid. My Mother wasn't to happy about it. She let me keep it ,but boy did I get a scolding on that one. Those damn comic books!!
