  1. I started collecting in the early '70's and remember going to a Detroit Triple Fan Fair in like '72 and having Bernie Wrightson sign my ST 1. At that time no one would have dared deface a comic by having it signed on the cover. We were even nervous about how the sig on the splash would affect the grade. It was more of a personal thing to have evidence of meeting with the creators back then. I am still in that 'old' school, not a fan of signed covers. I do crave a JK signed piece of OA, or maybe an SA FF.
  2. Forming an LLC and going "legit" is the smartest move we ever made. - Examples of deductions: mileage, cell phone, computer, internet, grading fees, office supplies, packing materials and boxes, bags and boards, commissions and charge fees, etc, etc. - Do not have to pay sales tax on items bought for resale.
  3. I have steadily ignored their emails, and the click through warning when I post sales. I got a call from an actual human being at ebay the other day. He was nice enough, and told me that ebay could shut me down. I informed him that I have a day job, and if ebay wanted to throw away our 22 year relationship, and the few hundred dollars a month they get from me, then so be it. He seemed genuinely surprised at this brazen act of brinkmanship, and he was quite persistent, but I did not cave. I expect I will eventually be shut down, but I am holding out as long as possible.
  4. He could do it 1st class for $4 and change
  5. I had the same problem a while back, now I only buy the 7.25" Silvers. Problem solved.
  6. I have rebooted 3 times: Started collecting in '72, sold almost all of it as a HS senior in '80 Worked nights in a comic shop in '87-88 and put together a very modest collection, then life happened. Revisited it all in 2007 and started buying/collecting selling. Sold almost all my "big books" in '15-'16, and now focused on a filling a short box with a few things for my collection . Still have a few thousand books I take to shows to sell/trade. Rebooting is fun, and makes the hobby fun and occasionally lucrative.
  7. I got the same thing in the 80's when I was buying 12 cent Marvels for a buck or two each.
  8. I was thinking the same thing. I have bought maybe 1000 GA/SA books in the last 10 years, and have graded probably about 75 of them.
  9. In general, buy the best copy you can afford. Ideally one that is graded.
  10. Some WWII comics were put together this way as a way to save paper.
  11. I am of the opinion that there is a strong chance this is trimmed. This is mostly due to the fact that the corners opposite the spine are pretty sharp, but the spine wear indicates a more worn book.
  12. Thanks for sharing. It did make me a bit nauseous though.
  13. 2 ever-changing shorties is perfect for me. The other 7 longs and 15 shorties are all inventory.
  14. First class box mailer for raw under 1# is about $4, priority box under 2# for slab is about $10. I would keep it in the slab.
  15. I respectfully disagree. It could easily have been sitting in a lineup of books with just the right edge covered, or in a bag with a sticker masking the remaining yellow spot. It seems very unlikely that the yellow ran out at exactly line of the spine when the front and back cover were printed laid open in one pass.
  16. "Investment Portfolio" I'll continue to call it a short box.
  17. This topic seems to come up weekly now. Here are some wonderful "Print Error" - in reality faded books, that I shot at a shop yesterday. Note only muted blues remain. This is why I don't display books. On that Watchmen, I would guess that is why it only graded to a 6.0, might have been a 9.0 or better without the fade. Shame about that DD3 btw.
  18. I accidentally put one in a $5 box and sold it a few years back. It did not really bother me that much. 2nd rate character in a 2 rate title.
