  1. I enjoyed it. Bizarre but somewhat compelling. Vampires, but ones that effectively became that way through medical science.
  2. A month after the release of any film it devolves into that. I don't get the obsession with the numbers...I stop paying attention after I see it and just check a few months later.
  3. My main problem with the Netflix series is that they require SO much more of a time commitment than the movies, yet for that additional time commitment we're getting less compelling content than the movies. I'd love to watch some of these given infinite time, but this one doesn't seem more compelling than my current watch list (Gotham, X-Files, Walking Dead) so I just can't. Television is the one place where DC is really kicking Marvel's booty. I'd much rather watch Gotham than any Marvel series aside from Daredevil.
  4. All pretty accurate except that I'm non-partisan whereas my significant other is radically left and I'm not much of a football fan. That Steelers/Bengals game in the viewing history was for my two-year old, who runs back and forth in front of the TV with a football while watching, periodically falling over and saying "I tackled!" He still asks for football and doesn't understand what it means for the season to be over.
  5. There are a TON of Amazon users saying their Vizio soundbars died within the first few months of ownership...that's my main hesitation for choosing the brand. Some models have more of those complaints than others.
  6. Here's a look at my setup necessitating a soundbar that supports ARC. The soundbar will go under the 43" monitor in the center and hook to the computer under the desk as well as the XBox to the left of that monitor. On the right is a 28" monitor, and on the left is a 34" ultra-wide monitor oriented vertically because I prefer reading most content-heavy web sites that way since they all lay content out vertically these days. All three monitors are hooked to the PC, and the center 4k monitor is also hooked to the XBox.
  7. I want to hook both my XBox and my PC into it, so I can't use that soundbar because it doesn't support HDMI out and ARC. The setup I want is XBox HDMI out to soundbar HDMI in, soundbar HDMI out to my 43" 4K Philips computer monitor, and my PC S/PDIF out to soundbar S/PDIF input. That way I can switch from PC to XBox seamlessly, but that soundbar won't support audio over HDMI to do that. This would also let me hook cable into my XBox and have the picture and sound travel across HDMI to the monitor if I want, but initially I don't much care and likely won't hook cable to the XBox yet. I think this is what I'll end up buying--the Vizio SB3651: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/vizio-smartcast-36-5-1-channel-soundbar-system-with-5-wireless-subwoofer-and-digital-amplifier-black/5768100.p?skuId=5768100

  9. Finally picked up the Nolan Batman set in 4K...WOW. Makes a HUGE difference. I only watched the initial scene from The Dark Knight that Nolan is describing above as being iconic so far because I need a sound bar, but man, 4K really made it seem like a new experience. Can't wait to get a sound bar (and 8 hours of free time which will be the biggest challenge) and experience the whole set.
  10. No, you'll still hate it, I'll still enjoy it. But there are deleted scenes on the disc.
  11. Most people can't tell the difference between 2K and 4K anyway. The distinction depends entirely upon the size of your display and how far away you are from it.
  12. The film hits disc on March 27th. What's significant for AV nerds on this one is that it will be Disney's first full 4K Blu-Ray release across all films and the first Star Wars film released in 4K. All of Disney's previous 4K releases have been upscaled from 2K to 4K, but Last Jedi was shot and processed in full 4K and should be far clearer than any existing Star Wars or Marvel Studios film on disc. Small caveat about Marvel films in 4K--even though Marvel Studios and Disney haven't released any real 4K titles yet, Fox has released two--Deadpool is almost 4K at 3.4K, and X-Men: Apocalypse is fully 4K.
  13. Correct. Domestic Box Office are the two countries combined (valued at $11.4B in box office annual results), and all other countries are considered International Box Office (valued at $27.2B in box office annual results). This is an outrage. If the Canucks want to glom onto us they need to bend the knee and become the 51st state.
  14. Black athletes have started adopting the Wakanda Forever salute during games or after wins.
  15. I assumed it was because of what he had become, i.e. a mass murderer so fixated on killing that he marked his body with every kill.
  16. I'm very surprised by the China numbers. That's awesome.
  17. I haven't seen Constantine yet. Are you sure I should? Looked mediocre.
  18. 25 years ago the main question in my mind when it comes to superhero films was whether the Nicholson Joker made Batman a better film than Batman Returns with the Pfeiffer Catwoman. I absolutely, positively do not miss those days.
  19. The last thing I'll say on why I focus on superheroes is on-topic because it's one of over a dozen reasons that Spider-Man 2 is the second-best superhero film ever made--Aunt May makes a memorably poignant speech to Peter about why hero worship is as old as civilization itself that makes me swoon every time I hear it again. And the nature of heroism is the central theme to that entire film and the reason it's so incredibly outstanding. Heroic mythology has always been with us, and it will likely ALWAYS be with us. Superheroes replaced Westerns, and I'm sure Westerns replaced something else, but I haven't traced the entire history of heroic mythology to know what. But I know it has always been there because examples of it are easy to find throughout the history of art. I'm sure some other form of heroic fiction will eventually replace superheroes, but whatever it will be I doubt we've seen evidence of it yet. I get that most people see superhero films as pure entertainment, but hero worship is about far more than just entertainment, and that's why humanity has always passed tales of heroism along to future generations.
  20. Superheroes are tied to comics because the era when the comics medium thrived is when they emerged. Had they emerged 50 years earlier in novels or 50 years later in television and film, we would never associate superheroes with comic books at all. If you were born in 2000, if there's an Archie movie and a Black Panther movie both out at the same time, what does the fact that they both originated in comics mean to you? Virtually nothing. It means something to us because we're comic fans, but there's nothing endemic to the comics medium that ties every story told within that medium together in some fundamental way. You wouldn't compare Archie and Black Panther movies because the genres they fall into have almost nothing in common.
  21. Critical response so far is a bit worse than season 1. I was kinda with that season anyway and was watching mostly because I liked Kilgrave far more than Jessica, so now that he's gone I doubt I see this one.
  22. I tend to agree, but they weren't all that specific about whether or not he would give ANY vibranium away. You'd assume they'd have to give some away for the tech to work, but he may limit it to amounts too small to be weaponized. Sounds like a VERY deep rabbit hole that I'd avoid if it were my screenplay in the same way they did end up avoiding it, by not addressing it at all.
  23. I limited it to superheros because if you take anything printed as a comic you have films that aren't terribly comparable to each other. For example, I don't find it useful to compare "Ghost World" or "Richie Rich" to "The Dark Knight"...their intent is entirely different. But just because it doesn't interest me doesn't mean I resent anyone else trying to do it. I'm always fine with anything tangentially related to any topic of discussion. I almost put Raiders of the Lost Ark on my list, but he's not a superhero so I didn't. If you go down the rabbit hole of comparing any impossibly-heroic figure, you've also got to consider Zorro, Tarzan, and every Western ever made. Neo from the Matrix is a superhero, however, so I should have put that and Reloaded on there.
