  1. I'd be fine if he died in a blaze of glory, but just disappearing for no specific reason is lame. When Obi-Wan Force-disappeared, he did it saving Luke and the gang. That was somewhat dissatisfying because he didn't HAVE to die, but at least he did Force-disappear right before Vader struck him, so he got that one last sick burn in on the way out in not letting Vader truly win a duel with him. When Yoda Force-disappeared, it was implied he was old and sick so you get it, and I certainly I hope I look as good as Yoda does when I'm 900, but I doubt I will. But Luke just faded for what reason, exactly? Because he knew Kylo would be coming for him and wipe the island out, I guess? If he wanted to protect the island and all the porgs who live on it, he could have just left.
  2. There was no indication in the films that Han or Leia know anything about Luke almost killing their son, and there was DEFINITELY no indication they didn't want him around. He wasn't pushed away as you're suggesting.
  3. I assumed that too about the kid, that he's not a part of the story but just a visual way to back up Leia's assertion that the resistance had everything it needed to continue. I'm not sure we'll ever get Snoke's back story without some sort of prequel film filling the huge time gap between Episodes VI and VII. And if you compare Snoke in these two films to the Emperor from Episodes V and VI, we actually know more about Snoke now than we ever did about the Emperor then. Palpatine's story--even his name, which was never mentioned in the original three films--wasn't developed until Episodes I through III.
  4. Yeah - but that was later in the film. Up until that point it begged the question of why/how they were connected. If I recall correctly, the only similar connection we'd seen of that nature was with Luke and Leia in Empire, when Luke was holding onto the weather vane in Cloud City. So throughout the whole first half of this film (until Snoke's revelation) it's implied that the strength of their connection might be due to blood ties. Ah, yea, that does make sense. It was definitely reasonable to believe that through the first half.
  5. And more often than that I see people assume they're smarter than the director and that the director screwed up when in fact they made an intentional choice to do it the way they did it. That was PARTICULARLY true in Prometheus, an insanely complex film that I saw at least half a dozen reviewer articles assume Lindelof and Scott screwed something up when in fact they didn't. Which isn't to say they didn't screw anything up, just not nearly as much as most people think they did. I'm still not getting some of these decisions by Rian, but I'm not ready to assume they were mistakes yet.
  6. Yes, and I could come up with a dozen or two other ways directors lied BEFORE a film was released to throw you off about a plot point so that a movie isn't spoiled for you, but I've never seen one lie afterwards about something that happened in an already-released film. I see no reason to disbelieve Rian Johnson on whether Kylo lied or not unless you can think of examples of directors doing that in the past. I've never seen it, and all I can see it doing is seeding distrust in their word.
  7. Why would it suggest that? Snoke revealed that he was the one who created that Force connection between them.
  8. I SLIT MY WRISTS AFTER I WAS FORCED TO SIT AND WATCH THE HIJINKS OF JAR JAR BINKS, AND I AM WRITING THIS POST AS A FORCE GHOST.
  9. No, and it's the first thought that popped into my mind when he made his frame of mind clear. This site has a simple explanation for the map: https://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/113497/if-luke-skywalker-didn-t-want-to-be-found-why-did-he-leave-a-map So it's really not a map to Luke, it's a map to the first Jedi Temple. And he told Han and Leia that's where he was going, so other people described it as a map to where he was; it's not something Luke explicitly left for others to find.
  10. I liked the idea of midichlorians both then and now, but experience with hearing complaints about it through the years tells me I'm in the minority so I'm not surprised they've never mentioned it again. I suppose given that the Force is so clearly not sci-fi and just pure fantasy that it's appropriate to keep it magical.
  11. It bugged me only because it took effort to sort out all the hints Abrams dropped in Force Awakens that she was somehow related to a core character, but then she wasn't, meaning I wasted my time following those breadcrumbs to begin with. It'd be like someone designing a maze with no exit; that's just a wrong thing to do.
  12. She certainly doesn't have to be a Skywalker to be Force-sensitive; it's not like the 100+ Sith and Jedi shown throughout the prequels were all Skywalkers. And I don't have a need as a fan for her to be a Skywalker, or a Kenobi, or related to any of the core characters, but Abrams most definitely hinted that she was in multiple ways. It sucks if Abrams was teasing it and then Rian Johnson deciding to ignore all that and do his own thing. When Rian says "I can’t speak to what they’re going to do," that implies that there's no plan for these characters. If that's right, THAT has to change. If they're going to tell an ongoing story with elements linked from film to film, they HAVE to have someone keeping that consistent.
  13. The wiggle room isn't that Kylo was lying, it's that he misinterpreted what he saw in Rey's memories. He clearly says Kylo wasn't lying. Among other possibilities, it's possible that those weren't even Rey's parents, but she didn't know that at all. If that's the case, Kylo wouldn't know it either if his insight into her parents came from her own mind.
  14. No, and it's the first thought that popped into my mind when he made his frame of mind clear.
  15. If it's possible that Rian Johnson changed the intent of Abrams with respect to Rey's parents, or that Abrams could change it yet again, then Disney REALLY needs a story czar for Star Wars. Like him or hate him, at least George Lucas kept the story straight. Kevin Feige serves a similar purpose for Marvel, but I'm not sure if Kathleen Kennedy is filling that role here. If she's not, someone needs to.
  16. Bosco and I agree about something?? But...exactly. Folks who are butthurt about this seem to be ignoring the strong (and ridiculously obvious) possibility that Kylo was lying. I can't believe you guys believe Rian Johnson lied to that reporter to mislead fans. When has any director done that after a film has been released? All that could do is make your fans not trust anything you say.
  17. Regional. Regional. Regional what, exactly? All of the Fox network affiliates are staying with Fox, so what are all these channels Disney is getting?
  18. Those are some strong points for why not to allow this big a media provider. 300 channels and 22 sports networks? WHAT? Which ones? All I remember hearing about was FX, and that Fox Sports was staying with Fox.
  19. So you also think Rian Johnson is lying in that article then?
  20. I'm not pissed that it's looking like she's not of their lines, I'm pissed that The Force Awakens had multiple hints that she WAS of their lines and it turned out they may have been just empty teases. Rian Johnson explicitly says in your linked article that Kylo wasn't lying, that he really did believe what he was telling her. Whether or not it's true is a separate thing, but that's the truth as it stands for now. But I still don't get that long Leia hug when she met Rey for the very first time in Force Awakens, so it may turn out Kylo misinterpreted what he saw in Rey's mind.
  21. Did you enjoy the Sixth Sense? If someone tells you there's a HUGE plot twist at the end, guess what you'll do? Spend the ENTIRE film looking for a plot twist. The worst trailer I've ever seen for spoilers was Cast Away because during the trailer you see him off the island back on the mainland, meaning I knew from watching the trailer that there WAS no tension with him trying to hang himself, or struggling in the surf, or struggling to find food to live, because I knew already from the trailer that this guy was going to make it. That's just lame. I get that the thrust of the movie wasn't him being a castaway but him being "Cast Away," hence the space in the title of the film, but Ron Howard spent MORE than half of that film with him on the island, and given that fact, a huge portion of the film was his struggle to survive. So knowing during the trailer that this guy was going to be fine was absolutely, positively a mistake and big spoiler. I really don't get people not caring about spoilers. If you're one of them, I presume a plot-driven film with a twist like "The Sixth Sense" wasn't your bag, whereas I see it as the absolute pinnacle of a plot twist in the history of cinema. OK, then, it's fine since I see your idea that the first week is off-limits means you have some modicum of respect for the rest of us.
  22. I asked that question during defense of someone posting spoilers, as in "do we really need to start two threads for every show and movie"
  23. So on show night, right after the show ended? When during opening week--opening night, or towards the end of the week?
  24. When should you use spoiler tags for the release of a new film? How about an ongoing television show?
