  1. I followed the forum for a long time, and just lost touch with it for a while. I've continued collecting, and have a huge WD collection, just looking for some of the books ive missed.

I posted a banner a while back, but had a hard time getting good images of my slabbed books for the image, and I included an image of a slabbed book from another grading company, and received a fair amount of grief over it, so I stopped following the forum for a while.

In any case, I am back and would love to gloat about share my collection with the board!

  2. Long time listener, first time caller.

I know this is not a "buyers" forum, but as this is specifically Walking Dead related, I wanted to see if anyone on the boards may be able to track a couple rare-ish books down, or may have them for sale?

I am looking for the Wizard World Ohio Mike Zeck sketch Walking Dead 1 issue, as well as the Wizard World Portland Walking Dead 1 2nd print books.

I am a long time Walking Dead collector and huge zombie fan, and I am trying to collect every issue of Walking Dead, so please...if you have them, I am interested, please PM me.

  3.

For ebay prices, you can't always assume that one sale means that comic is worth that much. Case in point:

Walking Dead 27 CGC 9.8 sold for $630 yesterday. Congrats to the seller!

Uh, same book is currently on sale for $379.80. Why would you bid more than $379.80 for the book above? (shrug) Maybe this book below is a great price?

Other sales on ebay for this same book are even lower. You have to look at the trend of sales on ebay, not just one sale.

I totally agree, but am still thinking about jumping on that train while prices are high. I have some dupes. that I would consider getting rid of, if the price was right.

  4. Ok guys, I need someone to educate me. So many boardies seem to have vast CGC collections, which must cost a mint to have done. I have quite a few books I would consider slabbing, but my LCS says its about $50 for 1 book, $20 per additional book. So it would seem that a bulk order may be the best option, however that is not including the fast track so I should have my books back right about the time Carl becomes a man.

What is the best way to go about having your books slabbed for a reasonable (I know its not cheap) balance of time and money?

  5. Ok. Seriously, what's up with the Rick brother conspiracies in TWD 105? Didn't buy it, but I've heard a few things, certain things are adding up, and I want to know what everyone else thinks.

I love the conspiracy. I went back and re-read 95-105 to see if I missed anything, and I am certainly suspicious.

Why would Negan leave his bat in the truck? He never leaves Lucille anywhere (apparently). Leaving Lucille in the truck was important because it gave this new unnamed person a chance to show that Lucille is extremely important to Negan (like we didn't already know that) and a chance to be in the same room as Carl as well.

Interestingly the first panel you see the supposed Jeff Grimes character it appears to be from Carl's perspective. The following two panels appear to be from Jeff's perspective and Carl is shrouded in darkness, so perhaps Jeff could not make him our clearly. The last panel on the page shows all three (Carl, Jeff and Negan) as if to indicate just how close they came to possibly identifying each other. When Negan takes possession of Lucille he then spends an entire page questioning and joking with this supposed Jeff character as well.

Additionally, Negan is the leader of this group of band of misfits and while he is in his private suite, I would assume very few people have full unfettered access to interrupt him. Even Negan had to go through a metal detector choke point to get to his suite, which appears to be attached to an industrial factory. So I found it interesting that this mystery character, who does look like a younger two handed version of Rick was pushed into the spotlight.

Lastly, going back to issue 103, when Negan arrives at Alexandria to take their share of Rick's peoples goods Negan makes Rick hold Lucille while he take a tour of the property. In issue 105 he makes Carl hold Lucille. The only other person to hold lucille is ..drum roll please...Jeff Grimes (I feel like Glenn Beck connecting dots with ominous music).

So there you have it, my conspiracy theory behind why this is indeed Jeff Grimes. So now that I have made a public declaration, Kirkman will take this in another direction entirely.

  6. back to guessing what happens next:

The logical thing for Negan to do to Carl is to kill him, or cut something off. Carl killed some of his guys, and while its being handled so far like Carl is a cool kid to toy with, that goes against what we have seen from Negan so far. Meaning, if th e kid in question were anyone but Carl, he'd make a quick example of him.

So, since Carl is a lead character and cant be killed for a while, if at all, and Kirkman wont do the expected thing, Im thinking Negan goes HOOK with Carl. He tries to be a better father than Rick.

So, rather than cut off an ear, or mess with the eye socket, etc, How about Negan does somethng TO Carl thats life-changing??? How about he gets Carl laid????

So the answer to Negan's taunt: "Guess what Ive done to your son? turns out to be : "I made a man out of him!"

    .

    My thoughts...

Negan is totally into retribution and people paying a price for their actions. That being said he likes Carl, hell he may even respect Carl. In 105 right before the face vs. iron incident, he hands Carl Lucille when Carl is 1-2 stairs above him (right at skull cracking height) and has no one who might be able to stop him if Carl wanted to take a swing at Negan.

So I think its fair to say there is some respect for just how bad Carl is to ride in a truck to an unknown location, pull out an assault rifle as large as he is and mow down some mofo's standing 5 feel away, and then when Negan show's up Carl commences to blast away again!!! What a bada$$ and someone without fear (maybe the brain damage did some good?)

So, what should Negan do to Carl? I think that Negan views Carl as a problem solver, and as somewhat "more evolved" for his willingness to take action no matter the consequences. Carl has already lost one eye, so I don't think Negan will take the other eye. Cutting off an appendage (hand, foot ect.) would be far too predictable. Removing his tongue (mentioned in a prior post) would definitely be cruel, but then Carl couldn't lead people. The possibility of psychological damage is certainly possible, but I think that Carl is already quite damaged (killing Shane, watching his father lose a hand, Dale lose a leg, mother & sister die in a shoot out, zombies, zombies, zombies etc.)

The question I ask is what differentiates the primate species from other animals? opposable thumbs! It's mighty hard to fire a gun without being able to hold it, so I think that Negan will either smash (with a hammer) or remove poor Carl's thumbs, thus preventing him from accomplishing any similar destruction in the future. Additionally, for the remainder of Rick's life he will be reminded of Carl's actions and will be forced to care for him. Perhaps even more frightening, when (if) Rick dies, who is going to care for Carl? That is something Rick will have to live the remainder of his life worrying about as well.

Love where the Negan story line is going, just wondering who this new dude is in 108?

Holy balls, who is this clown! This is a total scam and this guy needs to face some penalties. What a jerk, he's out to ruin this awesome hobby.

In other news, can anyone pull back the curtain a bit on PGX? Where are they located, company history, controversy ect? I know that the comic community does not think well of PGX, so im certain there must be tons of info out there.

  8. That's fair enough. I want to be clear that I don't care for PGX, I think they are a joke. While we may disagree on grading on raw books, a professional grading society should know their mess. CGC certainly has some slight disagreement between graders which can result in a 9.2 vs. a 9.4 but that is so incredibly slight. PGX seems to be the amateur hour of professional grading. I intend to get this book CGC'd along with a couple of other books at the same time.

  9. Now now Ryan - you haven't done too badly last year mate - your sig line would look pretty impressive!

    Missing a few:

    ASM 1, 50, 121, 129

    Hulk 1, 181

    TOS 39, 52, 57

    X-Men 1, 94, 101

    FF 1, 52,

    Iron Fist 14

Did get FF 48-50 and Silver Surfer 1 recently, but have a ways to go. That FF48 you got recently was sick (and I haven't forgotten about that avengers 1).

We'll see what happens in five years....

I picked up quite a few books in the last 2 years:

    ASM 129

    Hulk 1, 181

    TOS 39

    X-men 1,94,101 (really 1-540)

    FF 1, 48

    Iron Fist 14

    Iron Man 1

    Avengers 1, 4

    Captain America 100-106

I still have a few on my short list though:

    Journey into Mystery 83

    Hulk 102

    FF 2-12

    ASM 1

    Amazing Fantasy 15

  10. PGX book in the sig line - nice touch.

I'm personally not a fan of PGX, but I bought the book graded and intend to keep it that way. I may have it cgc'd eventually, however I just picked this book up in December.

Awesome sig, really really awesome. That FF 1 is sweet. Needs a nice shiny blue label though. And yes shrink that bad boy he's all I see, it takes away from your post.

I'll do some updates this weekend to shrink it down. I have a 27" monitor, IPhone 5 and IPad Andy sig doesn't look oversized on any of them. Perhaps your resolution should be ramped up?

I just picked up another sweet silver age book (Tales of Suspense 39) that I will

    add to my profile picture.
