  1. What is amazing is how people give these guys good feedback. They sell the ruined books non stop. How do people decide to just go back? they loved restored books? A long time ago I sold them a Lot of Amazing Spiderman comics Silver age. Later on during that year I saw my books go up for sale restored nasty style with supposed higher grades... It really bothered me. They butchered perfectly fine 6.0 silver age spideys for money. The books didn't even sell for much? I don't get it.
  2. You answered my question right as I posted it Theses aren't tied to any movie franchises. I do love the Blue Beetle. I almost bought a bunch on Ebay, but decided to go for some Green Lantern's instead. Green lantern is a good choice right now. Later on as a collector it gets expensive and annoying when prices begin to rise. Green lantern is getting a reboot and coming back to the big screen. Right now you can get all the issues you can for cheap. Get them now before any major announcement.
  3. How hot $ do you think FF could get? I feel its just a natural progression. After AF15 got expensive, collectors turned to Hulk1 which in turn became expensive. AF15, and Hulk 1 are getting beyond most collectors means. I mean 1.0s of these books are selling for 5k. An FF1 in 4.0 range can still be obtained at that price. FF1 is historically very significant (more so than Showcase 4 IMHO which also goes for a huge chunk of change). You are correct. The problem is that the the titles that became expensive have succesful movies/TV shows. FF1 will only be saved and become expensive if the movie doesn't suck... Honestly I hope it doesn't but i don't have high hopes for it. Now days it's all measured by movie success, sadly.
  4. I didn't even notice that it passed up Showcase 22. That is crazy It will easily fit In the top 10 silver age keys. I wonder what place it will take? I believe showcase 22 will make a comeback once GL makes a comeback in the movie world.
  5. Have you guys seen the ebay listing close to hitting $1600 for bids for a 3.5? Wow I'm impressed. I picked up copies like that a few years ago for $350-500. The book is literally above a showcase 22 and most other DC keys. I wonder where it will stop growth. If they include supergirl in the JLA film prices might still rise even more. I really like Supergirl and hopefully they do include her in more than just a TV show.
  6. B/c DC keys have long lagged behind their Marvel counterparts. Not only that, there's a shorter supply available. Law of supply and demand dictates that price must increase...and that's been happening at a rapid pace over the past 18 months. I think 252 still has legs to run and is slowly coming into its own. There's a reason I'm not selling. It's pretty crazy because only a few years back most of the keys were under 1k. Only a few were at 2k in mid grade. If you purchased books in 2008-2009 you were fortunate.
  7. CGC 6.5 I still have the invoice as they keep all info logged in their website.
  8. Is there a reason why this book has risen in price so much? I purchased an action 252 from metro a CGC graded copy for $850 back in 2011 and felt ripped off. Now I feel like the hulk with my purchase but I am still curious as to why? There's a nice 4.0 on eBay that just went up.
  9. I do dikkish stuff like that all the time. You're probably putting in predictable bids. If you bid randomly, you can make guys like me buy stuff we don't want. that's pretty mean man. Usually I wait until there's 10 seconds and I put a high bid if I really want it. I put a reasonable bid if I want/pass so if someone outbids, have at it!
  10. My wife is actually only 32... but she doesn't know Lynda Carter. DC appeals more to women as DC actually pays attention to its female audience. The JLA has more diversity to different people. Avengers got the complaint that it does not. Have you ever heard of a famous makeup company called MAC for women? They promote their make up products by using Wonder Woman. Look it up! It isn't just old girls. There's a lot of merchandise that's aimed at younger women by using Wonder Woman. I put a quick link here https://www.maccosmetics.com/whats_new/4782/index.tmpl
  11. Now I wouldn't say that! Hulk smash puny Flash! Hulk smashes everyone! SC #4 will definitely be on the rise, but I don't believe it will come close to the levels of IH #1 or AF #15. It will get a nice boost if the TV show is a hit though. Hopefully not too much of a boost, I still have to buy my high grade copy! (thumbs u I'm with Dark Knight here. Love all three key books, and value wise, expect SC4 to be on par with the other two. This conversation has been had multiple times, but the crux of it in my view is SC4 - way more rare, less popular. Flash show, coupled with a big screen appearance done right will change that. Look at the cgc census data (9/21/26) High grade copies (cgc 8.5 or better) - Showcase 4 (9) - Incredible Hulk 1 (21) - Amazing Fantasy 15 (26) Total Blue/Yellow labels on the CGC census - Showcase 4 (215) - Incredible Hulk 1 (812) - Amazing Fantasy 15 (1567) Is the flash a more popular a character? no, not overall (not versus hulk or spidey, anyways). But add the rarity.........and the answer seems more clear Census numbers notwithstanding, I don't think SC 4 will ever be on par with AF 15 again. And not even the Hulk. I'm a big fan of all three, but I just don't see it happening. I was in Party City the other day, and I heard numerous 4 year olds wanting to be Spiderman/Hulk for Halloween. Kids aren't running around asking for Flash costumes. Pun intended. The Flash may do well on the small screen, but even with a praised show, Green Arrow is not exactly lighting up sales charts. The Batman vs. Superman movie is shaping up to be a convoluted, mis-cast, over-reaching mess. I hope I end up wrong but right now all signs point to questionable at best. A successful Green Lantern/Flash movie could certainly go a long way to help on the big screen, assuming that actually gets made. DC just needs to get a cogent game plan for their movies together and stop trying to play catch up in a single movie. As a comic book, SC4 will always be important, but the Flash's mass appeal will never equal Spiderman or even the Hulk, that alone will hold the book back, and keep it in AF 15 and Hulk 1's rear view mirror. Pun intended again. And unfortunately, FF 1 should not really even be a part of these conversations any more IMO. -J. I actually don't agree. Little kids are not the ones buying a SC4 so whatever kids wear for Halloween doesn't really make the difference. There are too many AF15s in existence. If the major buyers all want a SC4 there just isn't enough to go around, they have to actually compete for one. SC4 is very rare and you have already seen an increase in its price. That was only a small push... I am sorry to say but the JLA movie is a far bigger hype than the Avengers. I am not 100% sure but I am pretty confident SC4 will easily compete because there isn't enough to feed the collectors. If it was common like AF15 okay that would be a different ballpark. I don't think JLA will make half of what even the first avengers movie made but only time will tell that. As far as my point about the children and what heroes they seem to like now, these are the future collectors, these are the heroes at the fore of their minds. They are wearing the spider man pajamas, the hulk masks, have the spidey bed sheets and hulk dolls and lunch boxes. The flash is nowhere near that level and plane of general public awareness and degree of belovedness. And supply is only part of the equation. There needs to be demand. Regardless of how many AF 15's there are, demand always exceeds supply. Hence prices increase. The same cannot be said of SC4, hence years of either price stagnation or very slow growth in relation to AF 15 and hulk 1. It is what it is. -J. How do you come up with the box office numbers? Avengers made 623 million and Darkknight made 533 million. Batman beat spiderman in the box office and avengers is actually ahead yes. But add Batman and EVERY major hero in the mix with a good director and a lot of money... It can beat avengers. Look up box office numbers. The DC movies are not so far behind. You literally said JLA wouldn't even make half if Avengers. Man of steel did make half of what Avengers made. The point is, JLA is a big deal. You might not feel it yet, but it's coming. The very fact Wonder Woman appeals to females far more than Avengers is also a plus. My wife didn't even know Thor but she knows Wonder Woman. I am pretty confident it's going to be big. Warner bros isn't stupid, I am sure they know exactly how to milk it.

  13. Haha that's funny. I was wondering about the inside of the comic though. Hopefully someone can shed light. As almost all the covers have girls crying.
  14. I noticed that most of the romance books have the girls crying. I've never read the inside of the stories, are they always crying inside the story as well?
  15. Would you be willing to have any realistic prices on any of your books on eBay? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Showcase-4-CGC-3-0-CR-OW-MUST-SEE-1st-Appearance-Flash-/261585387175?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item3ce7b43ea7 Define "realistic", because on keys, that word seems to have gone out the window. That means no it's understandable since the book is rare. My suggestion is get one off bids. It's a little rarer to come by but every year there's at least 4-5 copies in auctions. I believe there will be more this coming year as people cash the book in.
  16. I collect more DC than Marvel because I collect GA and I want to complete sets. I am trying to complete sets like Techs & Bats. It really depends on what you like. The only Marvel I collect is Spiderman and I only go for DC keys after that along with the full run. I don't like just having a key and not really owning anything else (I like to read them). DC is still very popular. Batman is probably the most popular hero ever other than Spiderman. You also have to understand Batman has a huge amount of comics. When spiderman was in the Bronze Age, Detectives were already at 400 & Batman was at 220. DC tends to recycle its heros over and over. Marvel has originality in the Silver Age and even Bronze age. I honestly think it's all movie hype. If DC had movies out and Marvel didn't you would probably see the DC books being pricier.
  17. Nice books! I wish I could shelve my comics. I live in Cali and the earthquakes force me to keep them on the floor in boxes
  18. Maybe when I finally get a Tech 40. Its really annoying to find a nice VG copy now days (that isn't restored). I was tempted to get the one on HA but the moderate resto turned me away.
  19. I decided to take a group shot of some Joker Techs. I need to CGC the 76 and upgrade the 62. The Tech 71 is a white page copy. The Tech 69 is a 4.5. I am actually almost done completing every Joker cover in the golden era. Just need a few more.
  20. SDCC was pretty cool back then when you needed filler books. It's always been expensive for major keys. As far as I remember I have only purchased key books a few times when they were priced a little over not too much. But when I needed filler books it's always helped a bit. It's like a scavenger hunt. At least you get to see the books first hand and not scans.
  21. Don't lump the Golden age in with the Atom/Silver age Batman. I still like and collect both.
  22. Spawn ruled the 90's...for about 5 months in 1992. After that, the Death of Superman wiped him off the map, and he has remained there ever since. (Is this where I say "simple fact" to demonstrate how solidly I believe in my position?) Spawn was, indeed, a consistent top seller...until McFarlane left the book. It wasn't Spawn people wanted...it was TODD MCFARLANE. McFarlane left to do what he really wanted to do: run a business empire. And once McFarlane left, no one cared. Spawn has been a mediocre book, written for mediocre 12-14 year old boys, for 22 years. All the other factors you mentioned can be said of all sorts of other characters, including Batman and the X-Men. MAXX had his own cartoon on MTV, and he hardly comes close to ruling the 90's. Don't get me wrong...of the first wave of Image #1s, Spawn definitely rules the roost...but that's not saying much. And sales numbers means little, unless it is indeed sales numbers of the last 15 years you want to look at. Remember: the top 6 selling comic books of 1993 were Adventures of Superman #500, 501, Action #687, Man of Steel #22, Superman #78, and Turok #1....all of which sold more copies than Spawn #1 And those are all some of the worst, most ridiculous comics ever printed. He was the least mediocre in the most mediocre decade in comics...? I'll buy that. I do dispute that, even IN the 90's, he "completely dominated the decade." He was dead and buried by issue #50, with a small spurt for the movie. Make NO doubt about it: people didn't want Spawn. They wanted McFarlane. McFarlane could have drawn Strawberry Shortcake, and it would have sold 1.75 million copies. Batman had more movies and TV shows than any other hero in the 90s... But DC didn't really put enough effort into the comic line so the comics weren't that great other than Bane. Otherwise Batman still blows it all out of the water. Well, we started off the decade coming off the greatest Batmania ever.... LOTDK was going, Robin was back.... Then, we got Knightfall/Knightquest, which, all things considered, was pretty much the IT event in comics for 1993. I can see a lot of the rest of the decade being rather blah, BUT...we did close it out with one of the most critically acclaimed Bat crossovers ever, No Man's Land, which was the IT event in comics for 1999. I dunno, there's a lot of really huge Bat stuff there in the 90's..... I forgot about No Mans land. I guess that settles it. Batman ruled the 90s. True, but this thread`s intention was really to discuss what NEW character ruled the 1990s. What I got from this thread is that Spawn was the new character that ruled the 1990s. Deadpool, Harley Quinn and Hellboy all became very popular many years after the 1990s. If we want to take it a little farther, then these four characters Spawn,Deadpool, Harley Quinn and Hellboy probably have become the four most famous new characters that came out of the 1990s. If there is another famous new comic book character from 1990s,then please let us know. I was being sarcastic the conversation went off topic so I thought it would be funny...
