  1. My first EC. I think there are only four EC horror covers that fit in my underwater theme: This, Crime SuspenStories 5, Tales from the Crypt 30, and Tales from the Crypt 40. Can't wait to get all four.
  2. A couple "being held under" covers (one of my bigger fears, right behind sharks)
  3. A little bit of the randomness I love about collecting on a theme:
  4. "Hold still for your tonsillectomy Mr. Monster!"
  5. Filling out my underwater short box with some inexpensive moderns. ..and Mickeys ..and a Barbie Fashion
  6. How's that propaganda? I'm just going by the definition, no judgment intended. Definition of PROPAGANDA 1capitalized : a congregation of the Roman curia having jurisdiction over missionary territories and related institutions 2: the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person 3: ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one's cause or to damage an opposing cause; also : a public action having such an effect
  7. Random Half Priced Books find. Good ol' fashioned American propaganda.
  8. My favorite part is the fish just hangin out on the right side, casually observing all the drama.
  9. Auction just ended so as far as I'm concerned this one is in my collection. Pretty excited about it.
  10. I only once found good deals on comics there. Usually pretty disappointing. But I'll have to check for these clearance days. I think each store has one person that prices comics, there are some stores whose prices are close to normal, most are pretty high though. They mark down their stuff every 4-6 months, but the markdowns are usually significant. The Sandman run I got was previously priced $46 but sometime this month it was cut almost in half. The clearance bin is mostly garbage, but I've put together a package to send mycomicshop for $23 in trade that cost me about $8.
  11. Definitely the most well known mashup. I'm trying to do all original combinations, and having a lot of fun mixing land/water, water/air, air/land.
  12. Working on a coloring book of animal mashups. Here are a couple: Toucan + Manatee Tiger + Orca
  13. For sure, there are 7 in my area that I hit regularly. Their books are usually overgraded and overpriced but clearance bins and markdowns make it worthwhile. It's also really great for TPBs.
  14. Not really a thrift store but today at Half Price Books I picked up Sandman 9-54 complete for $25. Now I just have to fill out the series.
  15. Some paintings, a couple drawings, I don't really do work like this anymore though. My Flickr Photostream
  16. Michio Kaku is a pretty amazing author. I read Hyperspace in high school and was instantly hooked on theoretical physics. In fact, I am reading Parallel Worlds right now. Also reading: The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zaffon (just an excellent book, full of mystery, history and romance) Bored of the Rings by The Harvard Lampoon (a favorite since junior high. Great parody, but that might just be the nostalgia talking) I have Parallel Worlds and Physics of the Impossible waiting on my shelf, just not much time to read.
  17. I generally have a few philosophy, physics, random books going simultaneously. Currently in the middle of: The Portable Atheist edited by Christopher Hitchens Visions by Michio Kaku (1997 predictions of scientific advancements over the next 20, 50, and 100 years) Superheroes and Philosophy edited by Tom Morris and Matt Morris Also just finished In Search of Time by Dan Falk. If the concept and origin of time interest you at all this book is a great read, very interesting without being overly technical.
  18. I won a big DC horror auction on eBay. I probably overpaid but it was the perfect way to kickstart my collection. I got about a third of the lot in yesterday, still waiting on the big box I guess. Looks like mostly mid grade Unexpected and Witching Hours with some randomness thrown in. Here are a few highlights: I'm getting at least 5 of the 6 Unexpected 100 pagers. I'm also collecting underwater covers to display as one big underwater comics mural so the Ghosts #2 is an extra bonus. These were in there too: There were about 50 books in the lot that were still unidentified when it ended, I got 4 in the first box so the next box should be pretty exciting. Kevin
  19. Found this at Half Priced Books for, you guessed it, half the cover price.
  20. Found these at my LCS, don't know much about them except they're Greek:
