  1. This is basically the culmination of a few years spent painting bugs. I sold most of them, but this one was a wedding present for my brother and his wife. Oil on panel 14"x14"
  2. I picked up a bunch of $.25 clearance comics from Half Priced Books intending to cut them up, but when I started flipping through them I discovered that the DC Who's Who U-W issue is a double cover. It's a little rough, but still a funny surprise.
  3. I keep my want list on mycomicshop.com, currently around 500 books on it built from gerber photojournals(if it's pictured, it's on the list. And yes, Exciting 28 is also on the list), some visual searching, and a lot of stumbling. I may compile a more portable text list but right now my budget is quite small so I'm just hunting down a small selection. When I do come up with a list I'll probably post it in my journal, which you can get to through my sig. Thanks for offering to "help"
  4. I really like the visual representation of the term "Top Shelf" where the upper row of comics are fully visible compared to only seeing the titles of the books on lower levels.
  5. I had it that way but the yellow bottom of FC291 and the yellow title of Nightmare don't look good separated, they pop too much. Ideally I'll just get more books so I can really work with the orders.
  6. Just got the ducks in to make this shot come together. Sorry it's a bit blurry... This is the image I had in my head when I decided to collect underwater covers, albeit in a larger scale, basically like a wallpaper mural of underwater comic books.
  7. Some Ducky *glub*glub* goodness WDC&S 143 is one of my favorite covers so far, it's just so adorable.
  8. This is my only pulp so far. If you guys know of any with underwater covers I'd love to get them on my want list. I'll probably spend some time backtracking through this thread today.
  9. plady- I think the type should be white with a black stroke, and run accross the bottom 1/3rd of the window.
  10. I have a VF raw copy on the way. Love the contortions and the composition of the bullet trails and obviously the *glub*glub* aspect.
  11. I really like that both attackers are using broken bottles as weapons.
  12. I've only got two so far: Great #1 was liberated from a CGC 8.5 WHITE slab.
  13. This was a CGC 8.5 WHITE earlier today. Now it's happily mylar'd and among friends. Thanks to Snake Eyes for the book.
  14. WTF is a teaser? Like a few people I've seen here, my collecting focus follows a visual theme, underwater covers. I've never really liked being underwater, especially dark water. For some reason the thought of something attacking me from below is just the most unbearable and terrifying thought ever. I've also convinced myself that sharks could be anywhere. When I started picking up comics I just bought stuff I wanted to read, mostly late SA/early BA horror, romance, and gothic romance(cause they make me laugh). I noticed that the underwater covers I randomly stumbled upon really grabbed hold of me. I started actively looking and realized that this was it. This is what I need to collect. I have just over 100 right now. I'm planning on slowing down the purchased a bit to ensure that I pick up books that fit, that I want to own, and that present well. I'm making this journal mostly for me as a visual record of what I have and how it fits into my focus. Hopefully I can present some interesting books in a way that people don't see very often. For now, I'll just post a few books to show the range of what I think fits in my focus. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  15. I picked up a big lot of some 70s Screw magazines. One issue in particular might be of interest. I'm not sure what is and is not okay to post so here's a link to the album(NSFW): http://s1184.photobucket.com/albums/z324/dailysuperpower/Private/ Password is: password I'm sure most of the comic content is reprinted from actual undergrounds but it's an interesting format at least, the issues are tabloid size (11.5 x 17) also, if you start on the cover and work your way back the images are in page order.
  16. Got any detail shots of this? Sorry no detail pictures..I sold it a few months ago but I'm woking on a new drawing Very cool! I might be a terrible person for saying this as I can see how much work you put into them but I kind of wish they were done in ink instead of pencil...
  17. A cheap kit will at least give you the ability to interact with the material in a way that tells you whether or not you want to invest more. Basically an $8 trial run. Hot metal is hot metal afterall.
  18. Only bought a couple books but they were treated with care and shipped quickly. Thanks!
