  1. Quick question: Can a book with a missing back cover get a green label (does that fall in to your category 1)? Or does that get a blue label + INCOMPLETE designation, probably limited to a 0.5?

Interesting question. I always thought that they were blue label incomplete 0.5s, but I would love to hear other opinions. (shrug)

There are a few opinions in this old thread.

    Thanks

+1 Thanks to the both of you.

  2. Rick, bringing the dialogue back to comic books, let me ask you a GA question here:

It's clear that when a GA book becomes in demand - such as AS8/Sensation1/WW1 with the WW movie announced, or MF73 with the Aquaman movie announced - prices skyrocket because supply is so low.

Do you think it takes a movie announcement to put the book in demand, or is the tide rising all around - in other words, do you think this is a sign of the rising value of lesser known GA keys such as All-American 19, All-American 25, Adventure 48, Adventure 61, MF 55, and even MF 52 (which is in greater demand)?

    Thanks,

    Carl

Movies can certainly bring new interest to a character but I don't believe the masses are suddenly compelled to spend 5 figs on a golden age book. There is plenty of source material available online for free, or 2-3 fig more recent books if they want to procure or speculate.

I believe the increase in awareness hits existing collectors that often times have overlooked a particular issue and ignites new demand. As we know it doesn't take much new demand relative to low supply to have a dramatic upward price pressure

I partially agree, and would value your input on this thought - I believe that, yes, GA collectors start to value the book more as it comes into their awareness as an overlooked book - BUT I also believe that when a movie is announced dealers become aware that GA collectors will be more aware of the book, and that puts notable demand on books with very low supply.

That's why I think movies make a big impact on prices.

  4. Fair game for this thread (thumbs u

But if you want to go to the source, ask the original poster on this tread,

he has his own "ask G.A.tor" thread for such things found here.

    funny

my best estimate is that a nice 3.0 would retail for $10k+ right now...

He might get lucky Wonder Woman comics from the Golden Age I have been able to get them way under guide right now.

I'd say that's certainly not true for the big 3 (AS 8, Sensation 1, WW 1) anymore.

But perhaps for some of the later issues in the runs.

I got my ASC #8 for around 1400 2 years ago and dumped another 1500 in it to get it restored. So there are good deals to be found.

Ah, 2 years ago there were deals to be had with AS8 ... but 2 years ago is not today ... not by a long shot as far as AS 8 is concerned.

  6. Hey G.A.tor,

Are you going to have Sales thread this spring or is more likely going to be this summer, if at all?

and if you are going to have a sales thread are you going to sell me a Catman #28?

And what's the coupon code for %50 off?

    Gators national basketball champs 2014!

No, no ... here's the correct response: :takeit: "Gators national basketball champs 2014! "

  7. Q- who is the only SEC team to go 18-0 in conference play in a season...

Hmmm ... now aren't you supposed to answer questions that you were asked on this thread? :baiting:

I'm thinking, does this count as thread crapping in your own thread? And should you be kicked off this thread for it? And then ... oh, this is silly. :boo:

Congrats to the Gators, both the comic selling and basket-ball bouncing kind. (thumbs u

  8. So did anyone else cut a copy up? Turned my reader into Savoy.

how the hell did you do that?

Issue 34 has 3 covers - each with a different 1/3 of each face - just cut out the ones you want, and viola! He coulda had Tony, or "The Vampire", but he chose Mason!

  9. I'll be visiting Matt at the Denver Comic Con - I hope he'll do a blank sketch, and I plan to pick up some of his books at his booth - suggestions (outside of Mind Mgmt)?

Pick up Red Handed just so you can watch him burn it in front of you.

    +1

    Thanks! (thumbs u

Um ... what does "Burn it" mean? (shrug)

  10. I know I'm 497 pages late to the party, but just picked up and read my NWM 1-4 - wow - just wow - great stuff - of all the books I've read most recently, it reminds me most of all of Watchmen ...

    terrific!
