  1. You may remember the various versions I've posted of my Sriracha Chicken. Well, I wanted to see if J4S could replace the sriracha sauce and how that would affect the flavor. Here are the results of substituting about 1/3 C J4S for the sriracha sauce. It tasted great - about the same heat but with a different flavor. But next time I'll have to add some liquid, since it came out too dry. I must say, I'm really partial to that sriracha sauce. I like the color much better with the chicken and black beans. It's really just a red versus green preference for me. Anyway, Jimmers' Jiffy Jumpin' Jalapeno Salsa was a success! Give it a whirl sometime - it's quick, tasty and easy to make. (Fini)
  2. And here are the final results... Analysis Super fast because there's no roasting/cooking involved, and delicious (I've definitely had this version in restaurants before). Compared to my first attempt this is faster, darker, saltier, with milder heat. When I make it again, I'm going to add a little lime juice which I think will reduce or eliminate the slight pickling taste from the jalapenos. I ate up most of the J4S the first night with chips, but saved a little on the side for another experiment I wanted to try... (Next Slide)
  3. Blender wasn't catching it right so I tamped it down with a wooden spoon, and added another 1/4 C water which turned out to be perfect. I only pulsed it a few times to keep it semi-chunky. (Next Slide)
  4. Threw all the remaining ingredients into the blender along with about 1/4 C of water and prepared for a spin. (Next Slide)
  5. Threw the chopped garlic and cilantro into the blender and opened up the can of jalapenos. Strained the contents, and dumped it out on the cutting board. I noticed two things: the jalapenos still had the stems on, so I decided to cut those off; and these are actually "pickled" jalapenos which means they're pretty salty, so I decided to omit any additional salt in the recipe. (Next Slide)
  6. I had some cilantro in the fridge, so I decided to add that as well since it's so easy to prep. Chopped everything up... (Next Slide)
  7. Jimmers gave me some cool recipes . I really wanted to try the quick and easy one, so I bought the ingredients and got everything ready. BTW, I'm naming this Jimmers' Jiffy Jumpin' Jalapeno Salsa - or J4S for short. (Next Slide)
  8. It's 92 degrees Ditch here today (96 yesterday ); too hot to work or do much of anything, so I'm staying inside to play. Only 15% humidity, thankfully. Anyway...I'm finally getting around to some things I wanted to post here. Salsa pics coming soon.
  9. +1 That was a very professional and earnest response. That's the type of seller we need here. Someone who stands behind their books and their shipping without hesitation. Well done. Also agree that a $100 book deserves a box. I use bags unlimited's comic mailer boxes. They allow for up to 8 books, cardboard and bubble wrap inside the box AND it fits completely inside a USPS flat rate priority padded envelope which costs $6 to ship. That gives you boxed shipping for envelope pricing. I knew I liked you for some reason. Those are awesome mailer boxes. [+] I didn't realize they'd fit in a flat rate envelope. Do you use the standard or legal size? With the legal size, I can sandwich a book between eight pieces of oversized corrugated cardboard (the book is bagged/boarded, rebagged with a sacrificial bag which is then taped to a board using painters tape for easy removal), wrap it in a water-proof bag and still have plenty of room. It's basically like shipping a cardboard brick with the rigidity of hard-cover book inside an envelope. But for shipping multiple books, that mailer box would be the way to go. Great idea. That mailer fits easily within this envelope.... https://store.usps.com/store/browse/uspsProductDetailMultiSkuDropDown.jsp?categoryNavIds=shipping-supplies%3apriority-mail&categoryNav=false&navAction=push&navCount=0&productId=P_EP14PE&categoryId=priority-mail Padded, Priority Flat Rate Envelope....9.5" x 12.5" where does the mailer box come from? and how much is it? Bags Unlimited sells this particular one. I order them in a pack of 100 and then use them over the course of years....they wind up being $0.73 each including shipping. I believe other companies make a similar product but this one works best for me. https://www.bagsunlimited.com/p-5313-comic-mailer-holds-up-to-14-comics.aspx Yet another idea. This was amazingly rigid, much more so than it looked. I really like the design, and the way it keeps the book centered within the box and away from the sides.

  11. Forgot to add this... Deutschland 83 I've only watched the first two episodes, so it's too early to tell; but so far it's excellent.
  12. It's time for another installment of "What Are You Watching?" TV Dominion I didn't expect much since it was SyFy Channel, but this has quickly turned into my favorite show. Very similar background to Supernatural regarding angels, humans and God. Humans Probably my number two show right now. Love it. Mr. Robot My number three show. It's nice to see Christian Slater acting again too. The Astronaut Wives Club Probably my number four show. If you enjoyed "The Right Stuff," either the book or the movie, this is a no-brainer for you. Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll Enjoying this. Denis Leary is very funny. The Man in the High Castle This is awesome. A must see if you love PKD. The new episodes won't start until 2016 though. Also watching TD and Brink of course. I'm watching The Whispers, but I really can't recommend it. Tried to watch Stitchers, Complications and Ballers, but had to dump them after a few episodes. Just finished Wayward Pines which I was initially excited about, but then it sort of tapered off. I've dumped tons of shows that I was watching last season that tapered off in quality (an example is Suits). Movies Jurassic World - Just saw this and can't recommend it. Spy - Highly recommend. Melissa McCarthy is absolutely hilarious. Maggie - Can't really recommend. Mad Max: Fury Road - A lot of people liked this movie. I didn't. What are you guys watching? Anything good out there you can recommend?
  13. Hey Arch, check the time stamps on the above. #8745792 - 07/16/15 01:42 PM (PST) 98.707 second delay LINK #8769326 - 07/27/15 01:44 PM (PST) 92.596 second delay LINK I think that's too close to be a coincidence.
  14. Dangit ...I forgot about this one. Next on my bucket list...the 100 seconds and over club.

  18. Excellent! That helps a lot. I'm still waiting on the Padrecito recipes, I'll post them when I get them. I also have pics of Jimmers' recipe. I'll post those when I get a chance.
  19. Thanks Andy! I'll check it out. (thumbs u I made Jimmers' "quick" recipe yesterday.
  20. On it. I know someone who knows someone who owns Padrecito in SF. Their salsa is really good. I'm waiting on recipes for all 5 shown. But that yellow/orange stuff is too hot for me.
  21. The Final Product: Results: Even though it's missing the chicken stock and cilantro, this was absolutely, hands-down, the best Salsa Verde I've ever had. I'm not kidding. And I'm the guy that would drive all the way out to Alviso to find the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the Bay Area just to eat it with Chile Verde and tortillas. The four serranos put it at the highest heat level I've found in CA, but it could probably use one or two more for my taste without obscuring the flavor. Evidently, freshness really counts. The books all say that salsa cans very well, but I'll bet it loses a lot in the process. And since it's so easy to make, and the ingredients are available year round, I doubt I'll try that. I'm always experimenting, so next time I'll use the missing ingredients, step up the serranos and peel the lime to get the pulp. I also want to explore roasting the onion with the rest of the ingredients. >> Next up for the DIY corner:
  22. there are no folks like that on the boards. it's all collectors....
