  1. That background color is beautiful. I'm trying to think which other books might have featured the same? Is this close? The Jimmy Olsen is pretty exact. Well done, Silver. I was checking Superman #144, Adventure #271, Superboy #78, #86 but all are a bit different. Lois Lane #33 could match but I can't post it here as it's a 12c book. That Flash in 9.0 stands alone as the single best graded by far. It just shows how difficult some books are to find in grade. I agree Ian. I would replace that Jimmy Olsen in a heartbeat with a better copy if I could find one. And while this is NOT a 10 center...I think it has that same color. Those purple books in high grade are just Yes, I realize that I have blasphemied the 10 cent forum with this lowly 12 center....but we were talking about cover colors Sorry to sully this thread with these low graders but at least they have 10 cent covers. Same purple no? Must have had a sale that year.
  2. What no showcases either? This crappy copy will have to do until its replaced. Its the best I can do and my only silver flash. Where's esquire's copy when you need it.
  3. Classic Detective rainbow cover with an appearance in Superdickery.com. Somebody has to have the Action 89?
  4. I do like the use of the spidey signal but the perspective is all off. Where is Spidey standing if its coming from his belt. Maybe he hung it next to his camera and he is standing away from it. OK, but that shadow is really a bit much, is it even Spiderman or someone completely different. I do love the Ditko hands and the cross over legs on the chick. Compared to the surrounding issues 20 21 23 and 24 its just the weakest one. All IMO. Thanks on the 3, it was bought off the boards a few months ago. Ed
  5. I would have bought that #2 for $25 all day long. I'm a big fan of buying ASM's with minor color touch for cheap. Also other back cover blemishes that make an otherwise VF book priced at a VG level. Here's an example. ASM 3 with ct cost $450 edited ASM 13 ct along spine cost $100 ASM 22 back cover stain cost $30 Spidey 22 is my least favorite Ditko and I could never justify paying $100 for a nice copy, nore did I want a VG/F with cover flaws. So this is a prime example of a keeper.
  6. I guess I should give up my Bugs Bunny search now as these will never see the light of day. Maybe I'll go back to collecting Spidey....
  7. Zoo Funnies #2 - Classic Cover (AKA, Overstreets buddy owns two copies he's trying to sell)
  8. Got these in the other day. My first key war books.
  9. ASM's are pretty common as are ASM collectors. Most issues have been discussed ad naseum. But here's a question for you. Who drew better background mechanical devices Jack Kirby or Steve Ditko? I always thought that was an amazing aspect of their artwork.
  10. The 60's storyline was passable at best but the 70's wedding stuff was outright bizarre. The topper was the wedding cover where the priest says " with this ring I thee WEB!?" Some should be tied to the whipping post for that zinger. Aunt may in a wedding gown looked like a Gong show guest gone bad.
  11. Its right around this era that Four Colors start to lose me. Especially on the cartoon side, the artwork isn't nearly as good with only some Barks exceptions.
  12. I'll post this in order and to steal an iota of bullets thunder
  13. Here's a twist - from two interesting posts in recent days. No sales data and very little grading data but you have to choose and choose only one. Tec 27 restored (piece added) or Captain America collection.
  14. This just in at the Post Office. Kudos to joker-fish on a great trade. My history with ASM 14 is a goofy one. In 1986 I was 14 and bought a "NM" ASM 14 at a Boston show for 10% off the Overstreet 14 NM price - $54. At the time it was a total grail and the funny part was I had never seen one. To be honest I remember being disappointed in the cover art. But I bought it anyway. For the most part it was an exceptional copy except it had some tiny tiny 1/16th inch tears on the top edge due to overhang. So I made it better and trimmed the top, and not very well either. 10 years later as the price skyrocketed, I couldn't stand owning it anymore so I sold it. Its been another 7 years and I finally got a nice replacement though it cost me some Golden Flash/Hawkman.
  15. Just in from Weird Paper, kudos. A mini grail for me as this is one of those under the radar books thats impossible to find. The high grade copies go for ridiculous money and all thats left are overpriced low low grade. Gotta love the mid grade copy at a great price. Thanks. Here's the payoff. See the 1st panel thread for the interior 1st appearance.
  16. Whatever happened to the theorey that 60's DC in high grade were more common than Marvels. Clearly this is not the case. The theorey comes from my memory of a 1980's Overstreet article. Back in the 60's it was the cool marvels that were read and thrashed where the DC's were never touched. I suppose its simply not true at the 9.0 and above level. Ed
  17. Here's the back cover end of the story for FC 164. Bugs sure is a stinker. Now imagine 52 pages of this. Sad with such good covers and genius cartoons that the comic interiors disappoint. Pure nostalgia though.
  18. The interior stories and art are not very good at all. The covers on the otherhand....
  19. Jesus. I've never even seen most of these, let alone in grade. I like the drawn in "10c" cover price on these early issues. For the most part they are all different and part of the artwork (drawn by the artist?) Boy those Raggedy Ann and Andy covers are pretty trippy as are the other animal covers whether from Walt Kelly or not. Ed
  20. Do you think the same is true for currency fluctuations? Just not worth the trouble or simple enough to add a sticker, like some stores did to hike the price in the states? I'll post a run of Astonishing Tales from the UK that I have. The price goes from 8p to 10p and then back down to 9p. So there was actually a price drop from one month to the next not the most common thing in the world especially in the 70's. Thats what made me wonder. Since you could have a price drop with the US 30 cent variants compared to a 25 cent issue the next month. Still, I think you're right, it wouldn't be worth the effort in the end to vary the printing for such a small market. Ed
  21. Has there been any evidence of a starburst pence (or other countries) where there are two different prices. Ie, one reads 10p and a same exact issue reads 11p. Seems it would have been more trouble than its worth for Marvel to test that overseas, but you never know. I suppose if foreign countries had rapid currency problems there could be multiple price versions of the same book, not necessarily during 75-76. Ed
  22. Here's the only Cole cover I have right now. I always liked his signature. The Holidays reminded me of it. BTW, did Frazetta ever do any funny animal covers. Also, who did the old Terry Toon covers, those might give Cole a run for his money for 3rd place as far as funny animal books go.
  23. Kudos to October for this book. Just under $500 with slight ct. at the two bottom corners. Good communiations all around.
  24. Yup same scanner I have and it does CGC books too without dulling.
