  1. A bunch of yellow feathers Long Bill Donald Duck appearances in Mickey Mouse. Some tabloid and some cut from Full Sunday sheets. Since I don't collect MM Magazine I don't know which of these (if any) appear in the mags. Feb 17 1935 Second Donald Sunday Feb 24 1935 Mar 3 1935 Mar 24 1935 Mar 31 1935 Classic Donald Apr 7 1935 Apr 21 1935 Jun 30 1935 Red colored only Jul 21 1935 Dec 1 1935 Still yellow feathers. Long Bill but not quite as long. White feathers at this point. Feb 23 1936 Mar 1 1936 Mar 15 1936 Mar 22 1936
  2. 3 more from 1932 one with an early Peg Leg Pete Edit: now these work July 24 1932 July 31 1932 Nov 13 1932
  3. Here are some more of the newspaper Sundays. I've only put up one image the rest you can click through so it doesn't get annoying scrolling through. Sorry for the large wide shot. This is from March 13 1932 and is the oldest one I have. The first Sunday was Jan 10 1932 so thats pretty good. I can't figure out when the art shifted to Gottfredson. Anyone know? The thing about Sundays is these are the first and original comics which all the later reprints come from. The bad thing is they don't have the feeling of being on their own. If you collect them do you want the full page or just the strip? Why not the entire section or newspaper itself? The more of the paper you collect the more tedious it becomes to store and show off. Still I was happy to pick these up.
  4. 10K if unrestored and no back cover issues - just a guess. One of the best villain 1st appearance issues, if not the best. Batman and Spiderman are known for having the best villians. But this puts ASM 14 to shame. Since the Joker Luthor Magneto Loki and Red Skull are very early issues you don't get the same singularity there. Doc Ock?, Penguin? Mxytpytzik? Not in the same league. TEC 140 - top ten grail. BTW wheres the 142? A much better Riddler cover IMO. Less common, more likely unrestored and a better value.
  5. Close ups of the 7 and 13, I owned the 7 raw so scanned it prior to submission. I haven't scanned the 11 yet.
  6. Pardon the wide shot but here are my 3 Moldoff Flashes. The 11 just came in from Comiclink yesterday. The 13 just arrived from the Detroit Trolley today. The 7 came from an antique shop awhile ago. Anyone have a midgrade 9 for sale???
  7. Speaking of foreign comics. Anyone know if the Pence copies had variant prices in the explsion price tags. I notice the price goes from 10 back down to 8 then up to 9 but that could just be from currency variation. This was during the 25 cents to 30 cent increase. Ed
  8. Paging Adam. Please report to ebay for a White Mountain copy of JIM #2 http://cgi.ebay.com/1174-Journey-Into-My...1QQcmdZViewItem
  9. These tend to show up on ebay all the time and don't seem very rare, although it is an interesting piece. I think there is one seller consistently relists it for sale and asks for hundreds of dollars so I sort of have a negative feeling towards the book.
  10. More Scrooge - and raw too 29 34 38
  11. Can't let my favorite thread die. A Firestone Giveaway with Carl Barks Donald story.
  12. So whats more impressive, a high value first appearance or a strong run of hard to find issues. A similar point, if you had, say Superman 1-100 and wanted to raise some money (space wasn't an issue) would you sell the unrestored VG #1 or the VG to VF 2-100 with equivalent value for the same $$$$? Seeing a strong collection has always struck me as much more impressive, but the flipe sid is that there's little WOW factor for tht uninitiated. Show your uncle, the baseball card collector, a Superman 1 and he probably congratulates you, show him 2-100 and he might shrug. In the end what do we individually appreciate more. I would prefer the single key to the larger run. It was one of the reasons I sold off 90% of my Spidermans, I got sick of owning issues from the lat 60's to 70's which had god-awful art and stories. That it got better in the 80's was great but all those books are so easy to find I could never get excited about collecting them.
  13. I can't compete with the headlights but allow me to submit the Warner Bros four colors.
  14. I've shown this before. WDCS 1-33
  15. This was a surprise find in a large lot of Dells. Issue 6 from 1946 vs the outer cover
  16. This just in and I had to share. I believe it may be the first color comic strip of Donald Duck. Its dated 2 17 from 1935 and as the start of a months long story I think it is his first appearance. I'm reading that Donald first appeared on Feb 10th in the dailies but I don't know if that was a black and white or a color. Obviously I'm hoping its the first color but since the 10th of Feb 1935 is a Sunday I don't know what they (Wikpedia) mean when they say "daily". There is a definite difference between daily and Sunday strips. Anyway its a nice item, I've got a few others from this era as well. If anyone has any info or input I'd appreciate it.
  17. Except for the fact that the Brownies later appear in the Four Color line. Your point though is one of the reasons why Platinum "comic books" have never really taken off in price - as ultra rare as they are.
  18. I hope this great thread doesn't fall into a debate over oringal vs new colorists. I do want to say that a fence should be brown and not yellow. And most "Ducks" don't wear red pants. I still can't help being a crumudgeony old man and think that the originals are better even if they really aren't. (check out the fading blue background in the reprints) Sooooo... where can I find the Barks originals for this book?
  19. And playing the newspaper game of comparing pictures - there are plenty of differences. One of the biggest reasons I can't stand reprints and love originals. 1. Brown pants are red and red package is brown. 2. Sidewalk squares in original have blue edging giving them depth. 3. Background Gyro and bicyclist are brown and not colored. 4. Pie smear on Donalds face is purple in original - as it sould be. 5. Yellow hat on Gladstone and darker yellow shirt on Gyro, yellow Duey hat in panel 4, fence is yellow not brown in panel 1. 6. I just like that the original pages are not Elmers glue white and have some wood grain to them. Its a comic - not a business memo. Ed
  20. Even though it was already shown, I wanted an excuse to break out my WDCS 140 and scan the key page. Plus I want to see if the coloring or inks are any different with the original compared to the reprint. One of my favorite comics of all time and easy on the wallet for us Barks/Ducks fans.
  21. True, and a minor character at that, though he did get his own book. The value of the book comes from the early Barks Scrooge cover IMO. The classic Gladstone 1st app is icing. The trademark of a good comic history are the quality supporting characters. Thats another part of Barks genius is his creation of Scrooge, Gyro, Gladstone, Beagle Boys, Cruella, and few other minors. In addition to his great stories he made great characters. I think thats the way with good movies too.
  22. 140 is definitely a first appearance. He has an invention (pogo stick?) as well. He may not be the center of the story but everything about his character is there. I have a loose copy as well and will try and post the pages. Next to FC 386, this is a great great cover of Uncle Scrooge and the boys, probably my favorite of the 1950's.
  23. Jayman, have you posted your Porky's. I haven't seen them and would love to...
