  1. Thanks to Jeranimal for an FF48- now my daughter can read the run.
  2. Thanks to mikeyriffhard for a big bunch of Archies. (thumbs u
  3. Thanks Jon, hope to find a #3 as nice someday, but I'd settle for one that simply presents well.
  4. Posted this in Skybolt's GGA thread but not here: Shot with HP Scanjet 8300 at 2007-11-14 Have wanted to collect the run for years now but this is the only one I've been able to snag thus far. Slow and steady I guess...
  5. You obviously have a blind spot here despite what everyone has said. You’ve been a real through all of this, being curt in both emails and the paypal process to resolve. I will leave it to others to point out again what you don’t get. There is one small element of your argument, however, that deserves addressing. You claim the Eerie left you with the cover attached, that you know this with certainty, so you are sure it was detached after it left you. And thus, this essentially boils things down to your word against mine. You assert there is a good chance the book was damaged by mishandling of the package. Others have pointed out, but you refuse to believe, that not only was indeed the package poorly packed, but you bear some responsibility to make it handler-proof. Unbagged books stacked up against a corner of a relatively soft box? I acknowledged the Eerie, placed in the middle of the box in bag surrounded by 2 boards, appeared unaffected by any shifting. It is an incredible long shot that sufficient stress could have been placed on the cover/staple of that bagged and boarded book. Somehow the boards, exerting a shear stress against the cover, would have to be moved quickly and far enough (while in the bag) such that the cover would be pulled at the point of attachment. Next to impossible to happen or even design in an experiment. So you can absolve Fed Ex or my neighbor for the Eerie. You suggest I could have detached the cover. I will play devil’s advocate here. In truth, this is the only scenario with even a remote possibility, and it is true that no one can ascertain if in fact I caused damage to the book. Well I know how to inspect a book without damaging it, having done so for 30 years with probably over 100,000 books, and this book was inspected VERY carefully. The ONLY possibility that would lend an ounce of veracity to your claim is that the simple act of opening the cover carefully was enough to detach it, in a manner that was not detectable to me. Highly unlikely, but if it were true, what does that say about the book? You never addressed the overgraded SSOCs. Under any scenario, the books, especially the Eerie, were not as described when they left you. I don’t think anyone is necessarily calling you a liar. It’s simply the totality of circumstances are that you messed up this transaction: the books were not as described plus you did a -poor packing job, and like with any situation on here where there is sufficient evidence to suggest that the buyer has a right to be unhappy, forumites expect sellers to accept returns. Indeed, for most transactions, a simple disagreement over the grade, regardless of the validity of the claim, usually places the onus on the seller to accept a return. We don’t have the AS IS mentality on these boards. Perhaps you really think you did everything right here, and are frustrated. But it seems you are incredibly blind to multiple truths in this situation. It is disturbing to me that this would happen to someone who obviously enjoys these boards, but the way you’ve dealt with this situation in emails to me and in posts here really limits my sympathy for you. I would like you to continue to enjoy this forum, but I don't think you know how to make that happen.
  6. Kudos to skypinkblu for some early Archies and figures. One day bulletproof delivery!
  7. The books were sent Fed Ex ground. I don't know if they were insured. When paying, I told him "I'm in NC and don;t care how they are shipped as long as they get here undamaged" because I had factored $25 in for the shipping and knew priority mail would be an expensive option. Although disappointing that a board member would pack.ship this way, I believe any damage due to (rather soft) box and the manner of packing probably doesn't amount to much. The biggest problem is the overgraded Eerie (I guessed in VG/F it was worth $250 but as is my guess is less than half of that). The overgraded Conans maybe make them worth 20% less than I had valued. It's the Eerie #2 that was the dealbreaker. To me, the whole shipping/packing issue goes more to showing his indifference, and seems to have provided him with an excuse (in his mind) for accepting responsibility. Seems he thinks mishandling during shipping caused the Eerie #2 cover to detach.
  8. You never know, I (and others) have had Slabs mailed to me in paper envelopes, sometimes the seller is clueless. This shouldn't be the case here (seems more like indifference) but the bigger issue I have is that no way would he not know the cover was detached. For anyone dealing with GA books, the integrity of the staples and cover is one of the first things you scrutinize.
  9. It hasn’t been 2 weeks but because there is no imminent resolution to this deal, I’m throwing it out here in the “Probation” thread. I recently bought two of Ghastly’s offerings on these boards: One is an Eerie #2 described as “VG/F but looks much better” http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=56&Number=2006025&Searchpage=1&Main=110172&Words=+Ghastly&topic=0&Search=true#Post2006025 I also bought his SSOC lot: http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Board=56&Number=2007864&Searchpage=1&Main=110223&Words=+Ghastly&topic=0&Search=true#Post2007864 Collectively, I offered $525 shipped to which he agreed. I intended to keep the Eerie and HG SSOCs for my collection, and probably sell off those SSOCs that didn’t make the grade. I paid via paypal on Nov 10 and the books were shipped on Nov 16 via Fed Ex ground. They did not arrive until Nov 20, a few hours after I left for a 6 day vacation. I had my neighbor pick them up from my front porch and hold them for me until I arrived back Nov 26. I suspected a problem right away when I opened the box (which was somewhat crushed at one corner) and saw half of the 130+ unbagged SSOC issues scattered around the box; a few were mangled. Apparently Ghastly had tried to stack them on their sides in the box (not flat, and with nothing to bind the books), and added a few sheets of newspaper and a small piece of styrofoam for packing. The Eerie was in a mylar bag between 2 boards among the SSOCs. A few SSOCs were still standing upright but most had scattered throughout the box. Here’s what the box looked like and a handful of books I didn’t take out to give you a sense of how he tried to pack them; I left the high quality packaging material in the box: Apparently he tried to run the SSOCs, stacked on their side, across the closer half of the box and put some newspaper between the books and the distal half of the box. Obviously it didn’t keep the books in place. Here’s some of the books that were folded over by the weight of other loose books: I thought at the time I could live with the few books that were obviously mangled due to the inept packaging. But I was a little surprised a long-time forumite would ever package books this way. I took out the Eerie #2 and opened it to discover the cover was detached, and there were significant spine splits on both the top and bottom. Plus the cover was a little brittle and a piece had flaked off. top spine split a few inches bottom split cover detached Well now I’m pretty pissed. I begin looking over the SSOCs and after about 50 books where each is off between 0.5-2.0, I decide this buy is going back. Long story short in his email reply Ghastly asserts all books were fine when they left him. The Eerie left him with no detached cover, no other defects than what he noted, I can contact Fed Ex if the Eerie got damaged en route. He also implies my neighbor could have f’d up the package. I can forget about a refund. I reply to him this is pretty lame, forum sellers have a certain standard to abide to that he doesn’t seem to understand. His one line reply is that he will not accept a return. In the past 30 years I’ve had over a thousand buys and I’ve probably had 3-4 instances where I was compelled to confront the seller. This is one of them. I know when I’ve been hosed, either intentionally or because of abject stupidity. I bought from this guy because I remember somewhere seeing he had some impressive registry set, so I assumed he was a long time forumite who probably knew how to grade. Guess I was wrong about a few things with him. So if he’s eligible I nominate Ghastly for Forum Probation, and I invite him on here to tell his side of the story. I’m happy to provide people with the text of our emails via PM, which are somewhat revealing.
  10. Thanks to Count, TonyStarkFan, Point Five, Ebel 1911, and Timmay for their recent purchases. All super easy transactions.
  11. I was under the impression that these pulps were quite tough. I know it seems like even ratty copies command a nice price on ebay. This display is rather mind-boggling.
  12. great book. missed out on one last week.
  13. I agree, #72 is an awesome cover. One of the reasons I bought this rather nice copy: Shot at 2007-11-10 despite it being LTOWP. I'm not sure the colors will come through, but in hand they are spectacular. Plus the book looks more like a 9.4 to me; I've heard there is a limit to the top grade that can be assigned to a LTOWP book (?)
  14. Kudos to jkrk for a sweet, undergraded CGC 9.0 Torchy #2. Awesome book.
  15. Also Kudos to shiverbones for 3 Big Shot GA books. very cool.
  16. Kudos to Jarren for a very large lot of HG SSOC and Creepy. Well packed and speedily shipped.
  17. How did you ever score all of those? I can't find crappy copies of those books. This sounds like my cue. I've been chipping away at this title for a couple of years now. Right now I've got #3 through #6. It's an awesome title to collect, but it definitely takes some patience and funds, even in low-grade (as if you didn't know). IMO these are among the coolest GA books (esp for us Sci-Fi GGA collectors). In the past 3 years I've collected some great books from some great titles yet for some reason I don't have a single Science book. Just don't see them offered often, and when they are they end up going for much more then expected.
  18. How did you ever score all of those? I can't find crappy copies of those books.
  19. Kudos to Apotheosis for a large bunch of nice SSOCs, well packed in a 23 pound UPS box.
  20. Either you have a magic scanner or the gloss on that book is awesome. Looks right off the shelf.
  21. Anybody has a copy of Authentic Police Cases # 4? One of my favorites.
