A high grade set of Action 1-100 might be a really desirable and difficult set to obtain for obvious reasons and, with that monster book, eventually be a real life-changing moment when it came time to sell.  After all, despite your stated conditions, you can't take it with you.  That said, I'm more a Timely fan and for personal pleasure I'd go with a high-end complete run of Captain America:  It's got iconic covers that span very significant years in American history (WWII to the Cold War) which are reflected in their images (Nazi personages, the Holocaust, ETO) by some of the most significant artists of the Golden Age (Simon, Kirby, Schomburg).  It's a fairly reachable goal (I've got many of the issues already as you surmised) as it is compact enough to be stored in two boxes, and even if you were only to look at the CGC protected covers, the wealth of visuals is amazing.  I'd venture to say you would admire and find new things on most of them every time you looked.  And that would be a real collector's desire.

That was my first thought as well.  Either GA Cap or Marvel Mystery.  Just too many awesome Schomburg war covers.  Supreme eye candy.

  2. My very few interactions with Bob were always decent (I don't recall ever buying anything from him though).   I remember running into him at one of the big cons (either WW Philly or Bmore) and asking him about Green Lantern #76; specifically about the lack of uber HG copies (this was well before the first 9.6 came up).   I sent him a follow up PM and he came into the Bronze thread we had at the time and gave his input/reasoning.

He towed the line between comic book genius/historian and Rozanski Hucksterism and cuckoo for cocoa puffs.   But mostly a mix of all 3.   He was a character, for sure.

    RIP Bob.

  3. Hoping for the best, expecting the worst.  I’ve tried to avoid anything about this movie (plot, news, cast, everything).  Really, the only thing I’ve heard is that it’s supposed to take place between the original and the Cameron sequel.

I hope it’s not  a direct prequel to Aliens (ie. Not about what happened to the LV426 colonists.  We already know that story even if we didn’t see it).

I had a Golden Age book that I bought that was designated as a Slightly Brittle.  The person who bought it from me CPR'd it.  It went from a 2.5 to a 2.5 with Light Tan to OW pages.

However, I had a book CPR'd that went from a Light Tan- OW to a Cream to OW.

    I have seen similar stories.

LT/Ow to straight OW on a Hulk 181 after a press (this is many years ago) for me.

So what does this all mean for collectors?  Blind allegiance and loyalty to the company? Angry posts and videos that amount to words only and no action? Jumping ship to the only real choice in 3rdPG?

The reality is, nothing will come of this. Nothing at all. Collectors will complain and moan, all the while still sending CGC books for grading and CGC smiles at you and gives you the finger. Another scandal arises and it's rinse and repeat from collectors ad nauseam.

This thread will do nothing toward sparking any tangible change because it will do nothing to negatively impact revenues which is the only thing corporations respond to.

  7. I liked the older sister better.

You’re right though, it’s easy enough to be able to swap the cast out and go a different direction.  It would be smart to do something to keep Campbell involved though.

As long as the story is clever and the kills are good, people won’t be bothered too much by a new direction.
