  1. It is why with many golden age books, I have no problem picking up a book with a small amount of color touch. If no one else wants to touch it, let that be their thing and keep the price down. Eventually a nice CT copy of Superman 14 will be mine.
  2. I think because that is a combination on the influence of baseball card collecting coupled with the modern age. In baseball card collecting it was better to have a players's first card, their rookie card rather than every card that he ever appeared on. The hobby still places importance on a player's first major card. The comic book hobby stressed this as well. So, while the Spider-man - Juggernaut battle in ASM 229-230 is epic and defining of the character, the 1st appearances of Spider-man and Juggernaut are far more coveted. In today's modern age though, if reading is the thing, comics are far more easily read via digital format if reading is the priority. If being a collectible is the priority than the first appearance and major keys are coveted. When we were younger there was a different mentality to it because storylines were not reprinted or collected the way that they are today. If you wanted to read the story you HAD to collect the back issues. Today the actual comics are more disposable than ever. They are so disposable they no longer have to be even bought to begin with. As the reading experience further divides itself from the collecting experience, the draw toward important keys will continue. Just my thought... I collected a full run of Spider-man and continue to maintain it. However if I had to choose between Nova 1 and Nova 2 though the rest... Nova 1 will win.
  3. Yeah I have to say... I think that the upcoming Disney streaming platform will not only be cheaper but be worth more per month than buying any two comic books.
  4. I have returned a book that came back as restored to a dealer and a raw book purchased through Heritage that was advertised as having color touch but I returned it because it came back as color touched AND trimmed on all three sides. With that said, I would also take back a book that I sold that had restoration.
  5. Just can't seem to get it to work This makes Andrew, sad.
  6. I have a hard time trying not to laugh when someone asks me how I can afford $500 books every now and then when they spend $100+ a week on every modern that comes out. Dude... get a digital subscription and get your $500 book.
  7. Wanted to share this to shed some hope on eBay's siding with sellers. I handle my mom's account. It's the least I can do for a few things she has done for me. One of 'her' customers initiated a return with the reasoning of, "Just didn't like it" and "it's not my style.Mom called me and was upset because she would rather give her stuff away then deal with this. I don't really understand that because I am the one that deals with it . Either way... one simple call to eBay while I was doing some other things and eBay agreed that her reasoning was NOT a reason for a return given that the item listed stated no returns would be accepted. eBay immediately closed it out in our favor. To me, it is no loss of a customer as this 'customer' would just be in the habit of 'buying things' to just return them at whim. Upon looking closer at the buyer's account it seems she has a little bit of history of buying things only to return them. It is good to see eBay look at that aspect and say, "Enough." eBay sided with the seller... See folks... it happens.
  8. Warning... I'm about to recycle one of my little jokes... <ahem> Spoiler Alert: I heard that Kletus Cassidy's mom's name is Martha which is the same as Eddie Brock's mom's name and when mentioned it gets them to stop fighting and fight off the symbiotes together.
  9. I didn't think there would be an issue #4. This guy is going to get himself banned and have to go back to reddit where he usually posts. They keep banning his threads.
  10. So... Interesting... As I have mentioned I only use the eBay Global Shipping Program to ship internationally. The fees were quite prohibitive especially for a $90 comic book. However, there is absolutely no way I am shipping anything to Brazil without the extra layer of protection that is offered. Aside from that, my fees are assessed only at the $90 as well as the $9 part of the shipping and handling that it costs to send it to Kentucky. I know GSP is not a favorite of many people but for many areas of the world, it is the only method I will use to ship it to certain nations.
  11. Oh you are correct it totally depends... There are things I would never use a big chain place for. I recently had to have a window replaced. There is one guy I like to hire to do a few things that are beyond my ability like a full blown window installation. This guy is a craftsman. He sold me on always hiring him when I needed my attic vents replaced. My house was built around 1935-1937... records are a little sketchy. They don't make certain things like that anymore. When he took a look he knew that you could not get replacements so he fabricated them on his own. When it comes to doing my bathroom over, I already know I am going with him. Any problem that we encounter he will come up with a way to solve it rather than a Home Depot place which will shake their head and say, "We will have to get back to you." There are some things I will use a local business for and other things I will not. When it comes to service type jobs I tend to try local business or craftsmen first. When it comes to hard goods though... Hey... I could shop from my phone while commuting to work or I can wait on a line and spend more money after spending time looking for an item.
  12. Looks like an import export business... Yeah... those are always legit.
  13. Hand it off to Heritage or Comic Link... let the market decide and you will receive full value - 10% consignment which is fine considering that they are doing the eBay work for you.
  14. Damn... trying to figure out how to go about that... that's a ridiculous hassle. Time for a new rule !
  15. Bleeding Cool article: https://www.bleedingcool.com/2019/04/23/comcis-archivist-and-publisher-greg-theakston-has-died-aged-65/
  16. Larry Hama has reported on his page that Theakston passed away. For those that are unaware his reference to refraining from making any editorial comment is probably in regards to Theakston's issue with the Kirby museum.
  17. That's it for now... 20 Scans and I need a break... to go paint part of the garage... yaaaaaaay Like I said, original cover was $10. Each book is $9 or take all ten books for $80.
