Comics will be temporarily in limbo but it should eventually get back to being distributed. What format? Will it still have cultural significance? Only time will tell. But this is the art part of the forum so let me speculate a bit about Original Art. Since comics are in uncertain status for a few months considering the Diamond debacle, it will take them time to pick up the pieces. The Coronavirus also deprives artists the chance to make good income in conventions. No conventions, no deadlines, no work. So we might be seeing a market dump. Artists holding on to their published art might be slowly letting them go to pay the bills. Artists will suddenly have free time so there might be a lot of commissions, drawings, or sketch covers that will be made for sale. The market might be flooded. Over time, prices might be go lower and lower. Jim Lee has already started with 60 drawings in 60 days. I am sure many more artists will do the same thing. So maybe it will be time for the bubble to burst soon on our hobby?

My favorite commission keeps changing but for now I like this one by John Byrne. I am in the same boat. Haven't been buying as frequently but maybe just two pieces a year since 2015. I started in 2011 or 2012.

That Groo and Rufferto frontispiece art used to be mine! I sort of regret selling it, that's why I came back with a vengeance and got two Groo covers! That is such a nice nice image!

In that Groo Inferno cover, I just digitally put the logo to the jpg file to make it look more presentable in CAF. If you check my page, there is an additional image on the entry which is the art without the title. In the Groo #3 cover, which is the subject of this original post, the cover came with the logo pasted up but the scroll banner surrounding the logo is hand drawn.

The later Groo issues - Image and Dark Horse have been out in the market with pages popping out. I think Sergio broke those up. Covers of the TPB's have also been coming out to the market. As a matter of fact, my other Groo art is a TPB cover which I love because of how big the characters are drawn and how it features more or less the most important case of characters in the Groo pantheon. I am not sure, but doesn't the background moon with the Mistrel's balls is his hat form a face with his finger as the lips? Is that a hidden gag? Blame it on the auto correct! Not sure what Alf Theragones is either! I am not sure if I can still change the subject heading, I don't think I can though. Yes, that is what I've heard but it seems like 12.5 k is a sizeable amount to shell out. Maybe someday! Thank you for checking out the writeup in the CAF page.

The year is almost over and I did not buy a single piece of comic art because I sort of shifted interests and had other pursuits. Then I realized I could not go a year without buying anything can I? So I got me this.... Groo #3 (Dark Horse 1998) Original Cover Art by Sergio Aragones I wrote a much longer discourse on that cover art I got in the link above. There is also a high resolution image on that page. I tried to do some searches here with the search function and realized not a lot of Groo original art collectors here. As for me, this is my second Groo piece. Any other closet Groo or Aragones collectors or even just fans? I'd love to see what you guys have.

I decided to be patriotic and get some art from Filipino artists. This first one is from Francisco Coching - "The Dean of Philippine Comics" - all the Ninos, Portacios, Alcalas, Redondos, Pagulayans, Segovias, Tolibas - all owe their success to Coching in one way or another. I've had this for over a year but only shared it in CAF now (I totally forgot to scan /upload it). In a nutshell, I got the original art to the editorial cartoon that was published the day of my wedding on May last year. So it's a pretty cool remembrance of that day. http://www.comicartfans.com/gallerypiece.asp?piece=1338543 ...not sure if it qualifies as "comic art", but the artist also does comic strips in the paper or in other media.

I just want to revive what i said here since this thread has been revived too. The reason why I got quick turnaround from Joe Rubinstein was because: 1. I offered to pay only a fraction of the commission price upfront (I can't remember but it could have been 10% or 20%). He accepted it. 2. I asked him to send me work-in-progress pictures. Only when I got the completed scan did I pay the remainder (80% or 90%) of the balance. 3. After those two successful commission experiences, I have also been getting some private messages and emails from him to ink some of the pencil pieces I owned but I wasn't really interested. I feel sorry for the people who may have been burned here. I wish them the best and hope things can be resolved. However, I cannot deny Rubinstein's talent and his commissions were really awesome.

If you check my post in the previous page (aka the Azrael and Groo images), I use glare-free or reflection-free glass. I'm not sure how well it protects against light but I don't expose my art to direct sunlight, and the whole thing does look nicer in this kind of glass.

As I am finally getting married on May 2015, I decided to get a cover from a comic that will be released and cover-dated that month - which is when the DC Comics Convergence event will happen.
