Man the market has been dry... a few books have come up that I passed on for other books, but either books are bidding high or they are to low grade... Was in the running for this nice copy, but in the end Im more interested in people in space, and less interested in the aliens... and this one is ALL aliens...

From your perspective, what are currently the most "liquid" GA comics. SA Keys seem to move like currency or commodities, but what is the comp in GA books? Were there books that used to be "liquid" in the past (years ago) but interest has dried up?

ASM 121 and 122 would have interest here for sure...much less all the others...

can we get some sort of abbreviated version of this definition added to the #14 rule about no raffles? I think people just slap the "Mystery Box" label on their raffle and think they are fine.

What if all copies you have are identical? -slym not possible with all the nitpickers around here! (joking!)

I think there are other ways to do it, just not other ways that dont involve more work.

Here's the logic. Doesnt EVERYONE want the best copy? So asking for best copy is pointless. ESPECIALLY if you're the 4th person to claim a book.

What do people think of this litmus test: Mystery box vs raffle A mystery box sales thread has the following conditions; a seller is able to "get rid of bulk" whe the buyers all get good deals. Typical example is with trade paperbacks. A seller may "bulk" the trades worth say $100 and rather than go thru the trouble of listing each book individually, sell them in lots at a lower total cost, say $50 "mystery boxes." The seller saves time not listing every book, they get the benefit of getting more books sold, and the buyers get a deal in getting more for their money (while sacrificing knowing exactly what they are getting. A raffle typically has the following conditions; sales occur in the buyers hopes of getting a prize that far exceeds the cost of entry. Sellers are able to offer these "grand prizes" by having the remaining participants receive prizes of value that are less than the cost of entry. When there are winners and losers, you are running a raffle.

Can someone with a better understanding of modern "hot" slab values comment if this thread: MP15 for $199! Is it a bunch of "not worth the cost of the box unless you get the MP15" slabs or is it still worth getting the box even if you dont get the MP15?

I dont think that the negation of a possible return (due to getting the book SSed and there being some damage as a result of the SS process) excludes a partial refund. poor handling didnt make the book restored, it just made it go from a 9.0 to a 6.5 A 6.5 has a 12mo GPA average of $186, there's not enough data to say what a SA 6.5 is worth... A SA Stan Lee in 9.0 was worth 45% less than the universal version. So Say a restored 6.5 is worth half of what a blue 6.5 is worth. controlling for slabbing costs (say $40) that means you should refund him 50% of 146, so $73 does that make sense? (Im not sure myself, so Im going to leave it at that, and get some sleep...)

the better you want your reputation to be, the longer you are willing to make amends with the buyer. I dont think there is a set answer. WC here's another one, how far back does restitution go? the most recent transaction? the last two? and so on....

They were part of a package deal, no? They should be kept or returned as a package deal. Otherwise it seems like it's sort of cherry picking. I just dont see how a book that has been irrevocably changed (by getting it signed) can just be returned for a full refund. Getting a book signed has an impact on both the books value, and the market that is interested in it. it's no longer the same book that was sold (not even considering the fact that it was likely damaged during some aspect of the SS process and lost significant grades. I agree he DEFINITELY shouldnt be able to pick which books to keep and which to return, but I also think once he got the book signed he no longer had an avenue for returns.

Here's my concern about the IH180. Because he decided to get the book signed by Trimpe there is literally NO WAY he can return the book he bought in the same state in which he bought it. The condition change from 9.0 to 6.5 certainly could have occurred due to the signing process either by Hustrucks own handling, or Herbs. You cant be held accountable for the grade drop when there are so many variables added to the books handling. I think you should (at most) refund him what you think the value drop from a universal 6.5 to a restored 6.5 is... (ignore the signature), that's the only part of this that you can still be considered accountable for (and then you can decide how to deal with the person you bought it from). And you're right he doesnt get to pick and choose which parts to return based on which get better/worse CGC grades. Would he be sending you $$ if the book came back graded HIGHER than advertised?

worth remembering that the local manager is not the one doing the inspection, so what they say doesnt really matter. its what the inspector thinks...

kyle, the way I read (and the way I think it was intended) the 1/100 comment was: Because you sometimes ship books in boxes, you say you pack in boxes (your post reasonably said that you use mailers when it makes sense, and boxes when it makes sense). He used hyperbole to make his point that using your logic if you shipped in a box once out of 100 times then you could claim to "pack in boxes with bubble wrap" as your PM noted here He wasn't actually saying you only use boxes once out of 100 times, just that... because you use boxes some of the time, you cant tell everyone you use boxes (because that implies you always use boxes.. as in "how do you ship?" answer "I pack in boxes"). All it came down to was you mistakenly said you shipped an order in a box when you actually shipped it in a mailer. No intent, no malice. A simple mistake. You are a good seller here and taco might have been peeved by expecting a box (based on your PM in the link) and getting a mailer. His feathers may have been further ruffled by your tone when he expressed displeasure about the use of the mailer vs the expected box.

Ok, the word came from on high. My library of HCs and TPBs will not be making the trip to Europe with me. So Im getting a BIG list together to start selling. There will be lots of long trade runs (multi-volume) Omnibuses Absolutes HCs & TPBs Out of Print and Hard to Find trades Marvel DC Image IDW Darkhorse And many many smaller press trades... I'm researching my prices and putting the list together. I'll probably list w/o pictures just for simplicity this time (vs last time)

And I just saw his WTB for covers of TOS39 and JLA1. (Offering $50-100) Wonder if he has coverless copies of that book, and is going to marry them (hope he discloses that little fact when he sells) or if he's doing something even crazier with the covers.... The pictures of the X-men 1 seem reminiscent of a craigslist listing, so I wonder if he came across someone trying to sell an X-men 1 on craigslist, buttered him up that he has "connections" and can sell it to the direct market (i.e. our board) and thus had his consignment... Looking at the guys posts I cant get a bead on his deal....

Growing up on a cattle ranch, I'm always tempted to get into GA westerns, but knowing they have such a small collector audience makes me leery (I'm always conscious of my collections liquidity). Is that a fair assessment of the collector environment for Westerns, or am I mistaken?
