  1. Dang, no markings. Wonder if there's a date stamp or a hand written purchase date on the back... I wonder what happened in '45 to make her change the way she tagged her books.
  2. Im not sure the validity of Murray's information about the books being ordered and shipped to her at the camp for a few reasons. 1. He mentions that the code markings on the camp books could correspond to housing or bunk assignments, but when you look at the markings thru the camp era collection it is obvious that they are used as some sort of filing/order indica by the original owner. 2. I wonder if his assumption that they were shipped to her had to do with the fact that the comics were discovered wrapped in bundles in packing paper (as if they had been shipped). But I always thought that was just how she (or her family later) stored the comics. I wonder if he knew that there were PXs on the camp grounds where comics (and other goods) could be purchased? If someone else was sending her the comics from outside the camp I would have assumed a more "girl-subject" slant to the subject matter of the books (especially in that era) versus what was actually purchased. The idea that Okajima was interred from July of 1942 until Nov of '45 (I dont know this, but Im working under the assumption that most people were processed into the camp around when it opened, and were released when the Internment act was repealed and the camps were closed) means there's a lot of gaps in the camp era collection. I am aware of zero books form 1942 or earlier (and I'd assume she was not able to bring any books from her home to the camp when they were brought in) I only know of one book from 1943. My list is largely from '44 when the "okajima" -script appears on the books. By '45 (when she would still be in camp) that marking stops appearing and there's examples of date stamps, but there arent many '45 examples out there (Griff has found two)
  3. Griff, Did you have a scan of Wow Comics 34? Does it have the date stamp like the Supermagician?
  4. "Alan Bahr, owner of Heroes Comics in California, got 415 books..." which means there are just over 1200 comics out there.
  5. Just want this information to be available in this thread as well. Original Source
  6. And looks like Adamstrange used to own Venus #14. "I used to own the Okajima copy of Venus 14 that was also a "T" code so that does look suspiciously like it might be an Okajima."
  7. plus it would be the 3rd Venus comic in her collection that I've seen (#5, #9 and #15) Venus #10 is one of my favorite Sci-Fi covers... wonder if she had one.
  8. seconded. back cover marks seem less consistent. The front cover distribution mark seems consistent with the early 50s ones.
  9. But is Columbia Comics actually a dealer buying for resale? Yes, and we're gonna have to live with it. There are plenty of dealers buying for their stock here. If they see a good deal, why wouldn't they? yep and there have always been dealers here. They buy, they sell... we get first dibs (often) on stuff they are going to take to cons as inventory. This time of year the dealers here are stocking up on the stuff that moves so seeing them grab the IH181s and the IM55s and such shouldnt be a surprise to anyone who's been here for a Jan-March buying fest before.
  10. The GLWTS comment that is out of line is when someone adds a statement right before it like "That price would be an all-time high. GLWTS." That has not been new members doing this. Has someone actually done that? Oh yes. Along with someone having a meltdown when a seller was under-pricing his books, and the person getting excited had a large inventory of this book. That ended in a strike. And that's why you stay out of Modern kids...
  11. wow. That is probably the most ridiculous thing I've seen on these boards in the last few weeks. I blame the Polar vortex, this snow and cold can drive us all a few batty That dude needs some wine to wash down his wah burger and french cries. I know... everyone here has missed on a book or twenty... it happens.
  12. Here's a new one... thread crapping THE BUYER! And here it is quoted in case it gets cut/edited. wow.
  13. Was the back cover purchase date (in her hand) common or uncommon for post camp books? I haven't seen a lot of back cover scans...
  14. there goes any chance of it going for a reasonable price.... let the games begin!
  15. totally agree Bedrock... I didnt even SEE the distributor mark on the cover (used to seeing it in the top section! to me! Here is a scan of the book from the eBay listing... And here is an equivalent era Okijima... The distributor codes are very similar.
  16. The Teen Comics 35 exhibits similar markings to the 2 examples I posted. The seller says it comes with a cert. I bet its a legit Okajima. now that Im looking I see the markings, and you're right it does look like your 50s era examples!
  17. Just did a look up. All New #11 would be from '46 (maybe super late'45) . So its possible since this would be post-camp (thus no -script, no code) and I think there were some books in this in between time (later books all have the distributor code) that dont have any markings... let me look. Odds are better since its a 45/6 book.
  18. I think he means if you have a scan/photo of your possible Okajima book to post it...
  19. seriously doubt it. The '44 books were camp books and they have all had the same marking types. Unfortunately, I doubt there'd be one different book in the middle of the other identical books. The camp books vary in condition, though I havent seen any THAT low (G-). Though I've seen some in VG+ condition or FN-ish.
  20. Here's one that was on the market at Worldwide being sold as a raw VF+++, the scan on the right is the prior slab it was in at some point in the past.
  21. Its a book from mid 1950. the 1950 books were some with distributor marks, some without... I kinda doubt it is an Okajima since it is so different contentwise than her other books.
  22. Regarding the MightyJohn SS complaint. If I had been his SS an gotten his "wish list" and I had something in my collection that matched his wants/loves but the slab had a small crack, I'd have sent it as a gift. Maybe I would include a little "sorry the slab has a crack but I thought you'd love the book" note... Secret Santa has a $15 floor. A slab, even one with a crack, exceeds that. Now if the book DIDN'T line up with TMJ's want list... Then yeah it looks more like a "use SS to dump stuff you can't sell" move. I did enjoy gift guardians response to it al
  23. ok information from the episode of "The Incurable Collector" definitely a camp book Superman #29 (august 1944)"5/4/1944" on cover possible Worlds Finest #9 (march 1943) though the shot doesnt show the pedigree markings).
  24. Wasnt end of year the deadline for this getting done? Anyone know if BLB has completed the transaction?
  25. I would assume there are distribution restrictions on unreleased pilots, especially since they are owned in full by the network that ordered them. And I'd assmue the network would retain those distribution rights, or at best they'd revert to the production company that created the pilot. So I cant see how the answer here would be anything but no.
