  1. Pretty sure the scam was - 1. List book for sale 2. Take it down. Bait potential buyer into messaging you on eBay 3. Relist as an auction, rake in the profits when disgruntled buyer gives you free advertising by posting about it on the Boards
  2. I would have given this all of 3 seconds thought and moved on
  3. I really think a foldable mailer with rigid corners is the bare minimum any comic needs. I'd wondered if there is a way to do a manila envelope with some of the stiff wooden-like backers I've gotten with some Heritage stuff, but no idea how much they would cost...
  4. Thanks. I will try out those cardboard pads when I run out. I had bookmarked these a while back too. Seem cheap but don't know if they are thick enough, and dimensions-wise they are a little oversized for the mailers I use.
  5. Typically on eBay I stick to selling $25+ comics. My cost of shipping materials is $2.82 total for Uline folding mailer ($1.37 each) and 2 cardboard slabs (73 cents x 2). Add an average of $5.25 for an 11 oz USPS Ground Advantage package and I'm at $8.07 which I'd need to charge a buyer for shipping & materials for one book. I'm thinking to expand into $3 per item comics. Not many $3 comics would attract a buyer for $8.07 shipping. If I eat $3 of that which I typically do, I'm giving the comic away for free. Any tips on getting my shipping cost down? Does anyone have experience with a product like these?
  6. I read (and re-read over and over again) exclusively DC War; it was my introduction to comic books. I loved Sgt Rock & Easy Company, Weird War Tales and the Creature Commandos, GI Combat and the Haunted Tank; Mademoiselle Marie and the OSS backup stories in GIC and the Unknown Soldier. I couldn't say how the stories hold up because I haven't revisited them. Anyone who remembers Kana the Ninja, please like my post! You could start with something like this -
  7. I save all pictures and scans on a computer and use SnagIt to crop and straighten if necessary.
  8. On eBay, you can also cancel an auction up to the last hours if you don't like what it's currently going for. In terms of reserves, I think they still charge if your item doesn't sell, which is a disincentive to using that format. Without commenting on what should be ethical, moral or legal, I can speak about what I am personally ok or not ok with. I think everyone on eBay should be allowed a one-time shill bid, one "mistake" if you will. That seller should then learn their lesson - they need to use a reserve, experiment with BIN formats, do better price and venue research and be prepared to reset their expectations. EBay has sold the idea of auction fever to the masses, both potential buyers and sellers, somewhat irresponsibly I think, doing none of the work of the traditional auction house model of promoting YOUR items and ensuring a critical mass bidding pool. Some sellers step into that without realizing what they are getting into. Of course, professional and habitual shill bidding is not cool.
  9. When people talk about safe spaces, I like to change the subject to space safes.
  10. The OP's rules for this thread included "No Judgment"; some posters appear to have broken this rule
  11. @mycomicshop, Is it possible one day you may work out a special price with CGC to reholder all inventory with "defective inner well" notations? (One of these is mine) TIA
  12. Evolution of this awesome thread - What are the rarest romance comics? What are the rarest romance comics? What are the rarest romance comics?
  13. Yes, I think the lower left ended up as the 5.0 and that's the one I still have
  14. Hoarded this book at one point - I think 3 came from Joe Nacca. Only one left!
  15. Wish I'd seen it. For now I'll have to settle for this!
  16. I don't see that in my digital images nor in the scan of the book from when I bought it (below). But, as I don't have it and you have already gone over & above the call, I'd say case closed!
  17. Thank you and I really appreciate that. It looks a lot better but in the price box towards the spine it still looks like there is tanning that isn't on the actual book. In my experience HA has the best scans in the business; I wonder why their competitors don't just copy what they are doing. Even CGC's scans leave a lot to be desired. Thanks so much for addressing my question and so quickly.
  18. @mycomicshopWondering if you have any plans to improve the color quality of your scans? Thanks Real life vs Your scans:
  19. It sucks but I wouldn't risk sending the books back through the mail two more times
  20. What does it say if there is only one copy graded and it's a 9.8? Probably not rare in high grade
  21. This one I bought from Joseph Koch Comics on eBay around 2002 for maybe $12-$20. Slabbed it in 2014, sold it in 2020. My baby is all grown up!
  22. Nice book! I bought this raw off Metro's website for $93 in 2011, had it slabbed in 2019 and later sold it here on the boards
