  1. And two of these were from Harley today; the 49 was a win on the bay. I'm up to half the Captain Comet issues now:
  2. Picked up at ECCC today for $5, in no small part to bump this thread:
  3. I like the idea here! I can’t help, unless you would like a color xerox of the Amazing Stories cover as a placeholder.
  4. Holding a comic and imagining its history. What route has this taken to get to me? How many others have enjoyed it before me? How did it survive the ravages of time when so many other copies didn't?
  5. It's a $10 book or so with shipping, so I'm not terribly concerned. But what the heck is happening at the post office?
  6. Will do! I normally don't look too closely at Harley's stuff since it's much higher end than my normal range. But the few interactions I've had with him have been extraordinary.
  7. Just a big comic con, I'll need luck searching back issues for Strange Adventures (and other books) I still need.
  8. Not actually ducks, but a fairly famous Carl Barks drawn story in this one:
  9. The heck of it is, I could see that actually getting the price they're asking IF they stared at 99c and let people psyche themselves out over it. But starting at over $200, I doubt anybody will touch it...
  10. If those are your upgrades, let me know what you do with your undercopies, please!
  11. And here's the variant for #1. Now if the universe just doesn't mock me by making the variant for #6 hard to find for some reason...
  12. Found at a Half Price Books today. I don't often see Crazys in the wild.
  13. Arrived in the mail today. Now wish me luck at ECCC this weekend:
  14. Found at a local store today. I have the 1st edition already, but I couldn't resist this 3rd (HRN 85) for $7 on general principles:
  15. Honestly impressed the Nostalgic mad managed even as high as a 5.5, most loose copies I've seen have been severely mangled at best... they were never meant to be removed.
  16. Others have shown the Cap Marvel 62, but this one has a slight difference:
  17. This. Although I enjoyed the first half of Human Target enough that I've been grabbing digital singles for the back half of the run.
  18. It's always the "easy" questions, isn't it? Thank you again.
  19. Reading the originals is more fun. And in almost all cases, the reprints are never quite exact. EC's, in particular, never seem to quite nail the coloring in any of the reprints. I get there are exceptions where you want to keep high grade or very rare books in slabs. But in general, I don't see the point other than to facilitate an agreed grade for the sale. With all that said, I'm more than happy to agree to disagree. We all enjoy our hobby in our own way, and I don't want to seem like I'm putting anybody who likes everything slabbed down.
  20. Are the pedigree labels available for magazine as well as comic holders? I don't think I've ever seen a ped label on a magazine.
  21. We were discussing how hard it is to find a nice copy of this one over in the Warren reading club. Gorgeous book!
  22. Creepy Yearbook 1969 thoughts: Cover: H. B. Harris only does a couple covers for the Warren comics. This one doesn't particularly impress me, it looks more like a left over cover from Famous Monsters than anything else. And not even one where I recognize the monster. Contents: It starts with what I think is the weakest story in the lot. It's nice to see "Monster!" printed with the pages in correct order. And there seems to be an oddly large number of Dan Adkins stories chosen, only they're scattered through the issue so it doesn't really work as a mini-spotlight on the artist. This is an extremely solid collection of reprints once you get past the first story. I vaguely wonder if this was to some degree designed to attract Famous Monsters readers... it has a very FM style cover, the first story is the one that integrated film stills that seems to me like it might have been designed to appeal to FM readers, and then it follows up with a lot of good stories. I could see them offering this as a free giveaway with a FM subscription to get it into the hands of readers who might otherwise not see the title. I have no idea if they ever did anything like that, though. Have a great week, everybody! And wish me luck looking for Warrens at Emerald City Comic Con in a few days!
  23. To be fair, only about half of mine have been in the wild finds... and some of those were at KAYO books, where the rules are different than at most bookstores. I think the last three might be better considered as a separate, short-lived continuation. They came out later and are slightly different format both in cover layout and binding. None of these are mine, they're just scans of the last three issues I located online:
