  1. There's a few that I might not value that highly if they're going to fall apart when you open them, but I agree in the general case. Heck, there's at least a couple I would consider dropping $50 for just the front cover in decent shape, such as the batwoman issue. This one might not make the cut if it was a wreck, for instance... but mine obviously isn't a wreck. even if it's not super high grade:
  2. I think, with the recent craziness surrounding pulp sales, and the rep the book has as the Action #1 of pulps, that we'll get at least two people thinking they want on the bandwagon before it gets even crazier, and they will put their ballpark number at around 100K. With the August 1928 Amazing hitting $25K with buyer's premium it seems like a legitimate guess. To be clear, I'm saying the $105,000 is my guess for final cost to the buyer, to include the premium and such. I could be very wrong, I'm miles from an expert. But I think it's as good a guess as any. I also think your guess is good, looking at the last sales of the book on heritage of much nicer copies... you're just making different assumptions than I did. And until it hammers, we won't know which of us (or even if either of us) are right.
  3. I definitely want to upgrade the #17, and will probably track one down in the next few days since my tax returned showed up. Was still well worth the $5 I paid for it a few years ago. The original Goodwin runs on Creepy 1-17, Eerie 2-11, and Blazing Combat #1-4 are really the closest we ever got to an EC revival. It's not that there weren't a lot of excellent issues later in the runs, but these early issues are truly one of the all-time great eras of comics. I wish Goodwin had been around to contribute to the EC line; although I love the fact he did at least have a letter published in Weird Fantasy #21.
  4. If it wasn't for the sentimental value, I might want to upgrade the #6... but it's the first Warren horror book I ever owned, found in a small used bookstore back in the 90's for around $3. No other Warrens in the pile, but I did get some of the Ka-Zar Savage Tales and a few Marvel Previews... including the then worthless Marvel Preview #7 for the same $3 or so. And that one was in much better shape than the Creepy #6.
  5. Since I finished the run, here's my Creepy 1-17. I wouldn't mind getting a better copy of #1, but it will do for now. And it was well worth the roughly $20 I paid for it... it's a horribly underrated book.
  6. How are the pages? Unless they’re brittle, it looks like a deal to me.
  7. That’s the reason I heard. And I’m glad they were able to get it out at all, and that they were able to do it in time for Perez to see it. It seems to be selling between $200 and $275 at the moment.
  8. Here’s a question : I’ve heard reports that some Thunder Agents stories were published in UK books (I think Alan Class, but not positive) that were never published in the US. Has anyone else heard that or have any ideas where they appeared, assuming they exist at all?
  9. In today. This completes my run of the classic Goodwin-Edited Creepy run from 1-17. More generally, this has been a very good month for my magazines so far... finished the Creepy 1-17 run, the overlapping Frazetta Creepy Covers run, my Marvel Preview- Bizarre Adventures run. and my NatLamp 1-75 run. I'm going to need to look for some new projects if this keeps up!
  10. I haven't read close to all of them, but I've probably read well over 100. They're not meant to be read in rapid succession, at best it's supposed to be a couple hours reading every two to three weeks. I've got several of the later 40's stories by Bruce Elliot, not Gibson, because I'm looking for the John D. MacDonald stories in them. People are absolutely right when they say they're not great as Shadow stories, but I think several of them are quite well done as 40's pulp. They're actually so different from the Gibson stories they stand out well in comparison, I think. Just don't expect classic Shadow material.
  11. It reminds me of watching a 1996 sci-fi movie as an adult!
  12. The only reasonable response is "Get both", of course. Which you have!
  13. That one just went on my want list, I hadn't realized it about the cover. The book does tie for highest graded on the census, but I suspect whoever bid that much may be high. (notices issue number) Whoever bid that much is DEFINITELY high.
  14. In today. This gives me the first 75 issues of the series, including all the Specials that had new material in that period. Add in a scattering of later issues with various creators or features I want, and I'm calling the project done... although I reserve the right to grab stray later issues as the opportunity presents. Despite the obvious effort I've put into putting together the run I have, NatLamp remains a book I have very mixed feelings about. A lot of the humor hasn't aged well or wasn't that funny in the first place. They also had a tendency that got worse as the title went on to mistake "a willingness to offend to make a point is worth doing" for "being offensive is its own point". But at its best, the book could be absolutely hilarious and viciously, brilliantly satirical. Any magazine that had work from Neal Adams, Gahan Wilson, Arnold Roth, Vaughn Bode, Frank Frazetta, Edward Gorey, Barry Windsor-Smith, Nick Cardy, Jeffery Jones, Russ Heath, Bernie Wrightson, and tons more has to command the interest of any comic fan. And Michael Gross, no matter how he came across in interviews, really was a brilliant designer of the parodies... they may have been offensive and tasteless, but they were never crudely done.
  15. I had actually seen 3/16 as the release date, my LSC has it on order. Glad the heads up helped!
  16. With the 14th (and probably last, although I'm pretty sure they've said that before) issue coming out later this month, let's post some Squa Tronts. I really should track down some more issues, and the 3 & 4 are the 2nd prints. Still happy to have the few I do, though!
  17. It's all reprint, other than the nice Gonzales cover. The story was originally in Vampi 30-31.
  18. In today. A bit of an oddball title even by Whitman standards, but this thread needs a bump in any case. I've already got the #1 somewhere.
  19. Found at my local store today. For a title created by Joe Simon that ran 134 issues, you sure don't see this one around very much at all. I've wanted an issue or three for a long time to see what it was like.
  20. Today's addition to the collection:
