  1. I have MASSIVE respect for Hughes. He could have charged triple what he was and there wouldn't have been one less person in the line. I generally (not always) let the artist pick the subject if they want; so that's why I have two Triplicate Girls.
  2. Triplicate Girl/ Duo Damsel can't be a terribly common choice for a convention sketch; but Legion fans will be legion fans:
  3. Since I've finished the run, might as well post it here. Very much a mixed bag, but some really good creators in the run. For me, the most interesting item is in #4, even if it's one of the more rough pieces in its own way: An early story by J O'Barr, before he did The Crow:
  4. The rule I try to use... and frequently fail with, but it helps sometimes... is to allow myself "type samples" of certain things. Two of these will be plenty; unlike any number of rabbit holes I've let myself fall down.
  5. The two I got today were $3.99 each. I've never seen these in person before, although I do have a couple issues of New Nick Carter Weekly I should scan and post some day.
  6. A large guest cast in Marvel Team-Up to a large guest cast in Marvel Team-Up:
  7. Found a couple of these cheap at my local bookstore today. I am completely torn if these fit better under pulps or under paperbacks, so I'm posting in each place:

  9. Picked up today; figured I should probably read at least one of the books one of these days:
  10. A pickup at my local bookstore today. It features part one of "They'd Rather Be Right", the second winner of the Hugo Award for Best Novel... and a consensus favorite as the worst novel to ever win the Hugo. More interesting is the story "The Cold Equations" by Tom Godwin. People have been poking holes in the premise of this one for years... but it remains one of the all time essential classics.
  11. I somewhat rely on the MCS grading for raw books. I can think of maybe 1 that I would consider overgraded (and on a $2 VG/F I would call a VG- out of a $200 order I didn't care) and maybe 1 in 20 is accurately graded. Everything else is better than listed, generally between 1-2 points higher than what they list; although I did get one 5.0 book from them that the grading thread put at between a 9.0 and a 9.6 with a clean & press. (Note to self: get that book submitted when I get my bonus this year.)
  12. No idea, I just know they're labeled as such at MCS. Here's my other one, a beautiful book with a detached centerfold that made it very affordable:
  13. The couple of them I have are both just stunning, although they're both technically flawed in some way. That, and MCS grading works in my favor on the couple I have.
  14. And nobody answered my question. Adventure 151 just never shows up that I see; there are only 2 on the census compared to 8 to 14 for the other Frazetta Adventure issues. There's at least a couple that might be more expensive if you do find them... I still don't have Adventure 150 or All-Star 50... but finding the 151 at all is a huge challenge. Here's the splash along with the cover; so you can actually see the master at work:
  15. Also in today. The #1 is from the John G. Fantucchio pedigree. This completes my run of the 2nd series of Savage Tales.
  16. Got this one in today. Every other issue of Adventure from 140-163 has at least 6 copies on the census. The other 7 issues with Frazetta Shining Knight stories range from 8 to 14 copies. This issue? TWO on the census. There's a Canadian edition out there, but it's 36 pages instead of 52 and I don't know if it has the Frazetta story. Crazy happy to have a copy at all, even a low grade, amateurishly restored copy like this. The Frazetta work for DC has never looked as good in reprints as it did in the originals.
  17. An oddity from the UK in today; it's magazine sized but more of a Graphic Novel format:
  18. And a couple other from DC's Gorilla era:
  19. A few more pickups at the LCS today; they more or less threw in the 33 free with the others:
  20. It looks to me like the covers were removed from the book, glued onto some other paper, and then wrapped around the book. You can just about see the actual IFC and IBC through the paper. It also looks like it might be trimmed; hard to tell from the picture angles. Original spine appears completely gone. With all that said, the paper quality looks good, the cover does look original if modified, and it's the first Conan cover appearance... so I would probably buy it if the price was cheap enough. But it would need to be pretty darn cheap; MAYBE 50-100 dollars at most. Just be aware you would be buying what even I would consider a placeholder copy; albeit a nicer looking one than usual.
  21. Before the comic magazine there were two issues of a digest. Not comics, a rare text publication from Marvel:
