  1. Hi Guys, thanks for all your inputs, was an honest mistake on my part and I would usually mention something like that. Been buying, selling on ebay for 21 years, most the stuff I've bought over the years does not have descriptions, just grades, he said to me the book was not a VG and only a 1.0 because of the water damage, did not bother to argue about it.

I think in this case, the book did have the water mark, not very big though. But I know sometimes, people on ebay will try this on just to get money back, as it works sometimes. Had a guy try it with an old video tae recently, saying I sent him a foreign one, I thought for a bit, some of the audio had been dubbed, when I asked for more, he sent a picture of a total different tape, package. I then went on to debate with him and eventually he said he got confused as he bought this one at the same time, after a bit more chatting back and fourth, I said to him, the one he had was a much rarer release and would sell for more than my one he bought. He then got back to me really happy, obviously forgetting his earlier conversation and he'd bought this one years ago and was really happy to know this, lol.

Had other instances as well, but I'm sure we all have.

Have a nice weekend and thanks again, herc

  2. Hi Guys,

I had a Showcase 79, VG/+ copy up on ebay, it was priced at £59.99, I gave 25% off to a buyer, so cost him £45, it was sent international tracked and signed.

Yesterday, the buyer contacted me and said it had a moisture stain, from page 10 to the back cover, now I don't remember this and would usually pick up on it, but I have given him the benefit of the doubt.

This is the conversation so far.

"hello, the dolphin comic you sent me has water damage inside at the bottom of the book from page 10 all the way through to the back cover, maybe you didnt notice it. i need a refund please or a partial refund & ill keep it. very disapointed, im contacting you first for a solution. please get back to me thank you"

    my reply

Hi, sorry about that, I usually would mention defects like this and don't normally miss them, so a bit shocked that I did. The original price was £59.99, and I gave you 25% off, making it £45, that's quite a good price for this comic at the moment, especially with all the movie speculations. Then there's all the ebay, paypal fees, and as you can see, postage actually cost me more than the charge, this ebay thing is not easy, lol.

However, as you are not happy, even though I still think even with moisture stains, it would still be VG, I could offer you an additional £10.

If this is okay, then I will refund this shortly,

    sorry again, herc

    his reply to this

"excuse me the comic is water stained thats a big not mention i dont really want the comic in this condition refund me 50% n ill keep it to avoid this runaround i was cool n did not open a case please send me the refund"

It's a no win situation for me, I'll lose out on the paypal fees and the shipping cost which is about £16, so not sure whether to just have it sent back, give him the full refund upon return and eat the £16, or just give in and give him 50% which is £22.50, (unless he means 50% of the whole transaction, including, the shipping of £10, and the taxes ebay charged, £3-£4)

What do you guys suggest, thanks for your help and opinions,

    herc

  3. Another non paying bidder, guy bought a Green Lantern 87, then strung me along for a few days saying he wanted to buy some more books, so I waited and he did, he bought a Strange Adventures 187 and an Adventures Comics 260.

I then waited a few more days for him to pay, but he  then said he wanted me to give him some Aquaman comic for free, as paypals conversion rate was not good, which we all know what paypal is like anyway.

He then continues to delay and messages me a couple of other times, I even offer to accept a payment in dollars through paypal, so there's no conversion charges on his end, but then avoids contact until I filed a non paying bidder.

Total time waster, he is a US buyer, so more likely to deal with more of you than us in the UK.

  4. I sold a cheap item for £15, sent it tracked and signed, within a week the buyer was saying he did not get, I knew there some big delays and told them this, he seemed pleasant and okay with it.

I kept in touch with him, gave him the tracking info, and said, if he did not get it by the end of the week I would give him his money back, which I did.

After that, thought no more of it, other than I was down £15 and a nice bronze age comic, he then left me a neutral feedback, I thought was a bit unfair, as I was in touch with him the whole time, he even bought another comic off me,

I gave him the benefit of the doubt, what else can a seller do once it's with the post office?  Anyway, not happy, I know it's only a neutral, but I wouldn't do that with a very helpful, friendly seller.

I normally don't chime in on a thread like this ans while I know there are a couple of threads for crossover results,I did find my recent crossover submission interesting.

I have sent in several other crossovers and guesstimate that there was a fairly consistent correlation at least with CBCS or while some went down nearly the same amount went or like I said stayed the same.

The last submission results are below.  On the two PGX, I am just happy no restoration or missing pieces/pages.  Not a large sample here but all but one went down and the one that didn't stayed the same.  I still trust CGC's grading and felt CBCS was decent as well but CBCS sucks in other areas especially customer service.

Another thing was how fast this grading was done.  It was received on 7-8 and shipped on 7-15. I sent in some economy tier GA books and also a magazine submission as well as lobby cards (my first for this).

So maybe harsher in grading now?  I don't know but consistency is all that I want like many others have said.

Doll Man #5 -- PGX 7.0 white to CGC 6.0 white

    Captain Video #1 CBCS 4.0 ow/w to CGC 3.5 ow/w

    Wings #13 CBCS 5.5 ow/w to CGC 5.5 ow/w

    Fight #43 PGX 7.0 ow/w to CGC 6.5 ow/w

Captain Marvel Jr. #115 CBCS 3.0 white to CGC 2.5 white

    Jungle #90 CBCS 8.0 ow/w to CGC 7.5 ow/w

    Jungle #76 CBCS 8.0 ow/w to CGC 7.0 ow/w

Jungle #67 CBCS 7.0 ow to CGC 6.0 ow

    Jungle #82 CBCS 8.0 ow/w to CGC 7.5 ow/w

    Jungle #59 CBCS 8.5 cr/ow to CGC 7.5 cr/ow

Funny, when they had the send competitors books in and have them re graded by CGC for cheap, a lot from what I saw were getting higher grades, now they're getting lower again, lol.

So, what happens if some silly bidder pays too much for a book?  Does this mean that GPA should ignore this data since it would bring up the GPA average?  ???

Or are you suggesting that GPA should stop tracking all sales prices and implement Josh's request that they should only arbitrarily select and record high sales so that it will bring up the GPA average in order to show a continuing upwards price trend for all books.  :screwy:

If so, then this is what I would definitely call bad and misleading information.  doh!

What I was trying to say, yes it's a good tool, but it is not the be all and end all. Sometimes you have to make your own decision about what it's worth too you.

If I sell a book for over the odds, then that is what the person was willing to pay for it, just like in an auction, people sometimes get carried away and pay more than they originally intended, "so silly bidders quite often pay too much for a book" but if they really want it, then they pay what they want for it, so can't see how they're paying too much unless it's a blatant rip off of course.

If I sell a book for too cheap, e.g Hulk 181 9.0, say for 3K, then every dealer will just buy it and resell it. If something sells for over the usual going rate, it will most likely be a collector who really wants it that buys it.

  7. That's the problem with GPA, it's good for information, but if someone sells something too cheaply on ebay, then this will affect and bring down GPA's average and this has become a bible for some sellers and buyers.

My friend had a Hulk 181, said his price, the buyer said he was trying to con him, as it was not the current GPA average of $4600, lol.

  8. Hi, it will have no effect on grade or price, but some people would not buy it because of the stamp, but they're usually very picky collectors.

You can get the older stamps, which are black, about twice the size and can be very ugly, if they smudge, then the value would, should go down just to get a quicker sale.

As for Pence copies, they are on the up and will soon be worth double than their Cents counterparts :insane:

  9. Had this guy send some offers on an Amazing Spider-Man 129, I accepted one of his offers, then he did not pay, did not respond to my messages and totally wasted my time on a listing I had up at a good promotional rate.

I'll reiterate: Darkseid is DC's "greatest villain" in power and scope.

The Joker isn't a threat to Superman, who is DC's "greatest" hero.

In power and scope, obviously Joker is nothing compared to Darkseid, but in terms of stories and popularity.

As for Power though, I thought Anti Monitor was more powerful than Darkseid and didn't Darkseid get beaten by Doomsday on a few occasions?
